Oh wait i allready play this format i play a ravagerless affinity with frogmite and artifact lands in legacy. only thing "not modern legal" is lotus petal and swords to plowshares

No wait i want to play with Umezawa's Jitte and Stoneforge Mystic

no no no i forgot about Sensei's Divining Top id try playing miracles with Jace, the mind sculptor

.. oh yeah this is why i want to play legacy instead of modern

I mostly understand the modern meta in general and i have a pretty decent sb imo, but im not even sure what the meta is at the store im planning to go to. Little background i was playing at a store for a while my friend lived near by litteraly 2 mins away, he moved now its an hr he was still going for a while the store changed owners he stopped going and i stopped as well. theres another store near my work i go in a good amount they have a card case other store didnt so ive been going in the last 3 years havent actually played there except for a pre release, so i dont know anyone who plays or what they play. SO the point of this thread i guess is what would a good catch all type sb include. Im playing A slightly budget (no Goyf thats what budget means to me at least) abzan deck i will post below with my current sb. Not sure i should have waited this long to post a help thread and realistically get cards but i might have cards suggested or find them at the shop tomorrow.

Stony Silence - Beats Robots, Spellskite, Tron, dont think i need to explain this seems like it should be here

Golgari Charm - Regen against control (supreme Verdit) kill infect and boggles on the play, could off set eldrazi on the play killing mimics before they get out of hand, might be good against burn getting rid of eidolon with the choice of saving a creature from a bolt, not sure about other enchantments but could be relevant somewhere else. Overall i like the versatility it offers which is pretty much why its here

Rest in Peace - this a staple im not going over it

Grafdigger's Cage - same thing as RiP but i can still delve

Timely Reinforcements - im ok with cutting this primarily added for playing against burn but the more i think about the burn matchups the less i care, rhinos and finks mainboard i have life gain and both are pretty much burn proof. this could be nice against aggro getting creatures and gaining some life but i feel like its just buying a turn

Kor Firewalker - Life gain/blocker/damage against burn i like it much more than timely, Also can play nicely against uwr control lists running burn, pyro ascension, a lot of decent matchups. i have access to a full playset right now

Thrun, the Last Troll - i like it for the control matchups cant be countered evades supreme verdict overall seems decent, could prob pair up nicely against aggro as well

Chalice of the Void - a couple niche matchups where this could be great on the play, burn, infect, boggles, eldrazi?, aggro, pyro ascension, affinity, living end

Languish - Budget damnation and an attempt to keep the sb more gb oriented, as well as being able to save my more crucial creatures, decent tempo, overall should have some sort of wrath effect, right? I have access to wrath of god as well

Creeping Corrosion - Affinty and tron

Engineered Explosives - prob doesnt need an explanation seems to just be a staple. With noble we can tick up to 4 but more importantly get it out faster and hit colors easier

Choke - **** you blue! Nuff said

Loxodon Smiter - gets around control, punishes liliana and possibly opposing iok and siezes recently saw a mtgo abzan list mainboarding these and wilt leaf leige to combat eldrazi decks by getting a free creature while killing a reality smasher so thats also why they are here

    1 leyline of sanctity
    3 spellskite
1 more inquisition of kozilek and 1 more thoughtsieze
    3 more kor firewalker
    3 more timely reinforcemants
    more ghost quarter
    reclamation sage
    qaslai pridemage
    2 wilt-leaf leige
    1 aven mindcensor
    1 wrath of god
2 crux of fate still not damnation but it keeps my sb gb
    4 relic of progenitus
    2 more rest in peace
    1 more stony silence
    1 more path to exile
    1 more maelstrom pulse
Anafenza the foremost shut off decks like collected company or living end
doom blade / go for the throat / smother / dismember
    krosan grip
EDIT 2-3 pithing needle and anywhere from 1-4
Will update if i think of anything

So any help would be fantastic, also if theres any crucial side out this card or anything like that please let me know that as well bc im still not sure what should be sided out when i do bring things in. Thanks for taking the time to read this and hopefully i can get some suggestions

Theres never a bad time to start the problem right now is a lot of cards are super playable in modern and its raising a lot prices on standard cards that are also staples, ie Jace, the modern eldrazi cards, fetches, and cards like collected company and kolaghans command. id honestly say this is probaly the most ecpensive standard ive ever seen purely bc of the number of cards playable in modern, recent memory i can say maybe 2-3 cards a block really make this big an impression on modern.

The game is expensive short and simple, playing competetive modern or legacy is a long and expensive investment you dont just go ok i want this deck go online buy and play that week at an fnm, you get pieces over time get a better understanding of the deck and when its all put together in front of you it has a deeper meaning. In the mean time there is standard which always has some sort of budget deck there's also edh which can be done very cheap or if you want more expensive but it shouldnt really make a differnce edh simply comes down to luck a lot of the time. As for making the formats cheaper more special sets like commander, modern/eternal masters, conspiracy and things like planeschase where they can print cards in a semi large release without impacting standard and sometimes modern. Tbh i dont really see a world where people can at a whim build a new deck in modern or legacy, they really are formats of build and perfect over time instead of change the whole thing all the time. I get that cards get banned in modern but most of those decks that were "fair" to begin with, Bloodbraid Elf in jund, birthing pod, they sprouted new decks and are doing just as well as they were

Not sure if its been mentioned but this seems just as bad a place as any to say it, in the event wotc got rid of the reserved list and found a way to respect collectors while reprinting things like duals then and only then really would legacy and pursumably vintage i guess would they become financially viable but i wouldnt expect this to ever happen

Just a really random thing not sure how astronomical a number but i dont wanna find out someone else do it bc i do want to know

So turn 1 lotus, show and tell, omniscience, enter the infinite idk leave a rite or preator cuncil doesnt matter really matter, dual natures, doubling seasons, primal vigor, parallel lives, boon reflections, mana echoes, soul sisters, storm herds, ajanis gaining an unbelievable amount of life and equally as many creatures netting an obsurd amount of life and i could think of a good way of going about a finsiher so banefire def uncounterable and very very very very very... very very big

So just watched a couple pro tour videos with the eldrazi decks, playtested my own list i just made, i dont think this deck is as overly powerful consitent as its beinig made out to be, granted a lot of the videos were eldrazi vs eldrazi as i only was watching top 8 but there was some long grindy games from what i watched, the LSV vs Frank lepore game 3 for isntance, even in my playtesting a list very rarely would i have mimic and eye granted the decks play a 4 of on temple which functions about the same so its still a powerfull deck, but its not as format warping as a turn 4 win in twin or turn 2-3 in amulet bloom. To not really see anything else top 8 is a little terrifying tbh but as with anything youll have to see, by the time another big event comes up someone should have found something to combat the deck or some sort of emergency ban
But what do you ban? the sol lands seems to be easy targets for it. Banning eye hurts tron a bit but it's still a playable deck they usually only run 1 and ive seen a lot of lists that ran it sb that was also like over a year ago that i was really looking at modern lists just getting back to getting into modern so a lot of this post could be really off. Banning Temple would hurt the mono green eldrazi ramp decks which from what i can tell weren't tier 1 so they get hurt quiete a bit but they still have other choices the deck could stay a thing. However banning either really makes the eldrazi decks as a whole unplayable so that while it would help everyone not playing eldrazi its kinda like a dick move honestly. Other than the 2 sol lands i can't really think of anything really ban worthy, the only thing i can think of is eldrazi mimic. the deck could still function and still function at a very high level, it would be like banning arcbound ravager the rest of the affinity decks are scary efficent on its own, without mimic the deck just loses a an extra 4/4 or 5/5 turn 2-3, reality smasher and thought-knot seer arent really strong enough to get banned imo, matter reshaper isnt that strong either so really the strongest cards are mimic and lands imo, i could see banning eye and leaving temple as is it would slow the deck and still keep it a playable state so most people are happy.
Also worth noting i just finished building abazan and i have nothing worth siding in against this deck and no real chance of racing it, taking 3-5 damage to thoughtsieze seems like a waste enough of the deck is above 3 cmc so iok isnt great, siege rhino comes in too late unless i get it turn 3 off noble hierarch but its at best just a trade with one of prob 3-4 creatures attacking me, my other modern deck is faeries and it bleeds itself and doesnt really do well against creatures so its screwed as well.
All in all this really is an amazing thing thats happpened. A totally new deck dominated a pt top 8 and no one has any idea where to go from here and honestly ive seen it elsewhere the only real way to beat it is to play or looking at the top 8 play affinity which is effectively a smaller version of eldrazi. Im fairly speechless to see an event where top 8 didnt have a single lightning bolt, tarmogoyf, collected company, almost no fetches, snapcaster mage, wow im honestly not even really upset im just amazed. its just a great deck super eficent and consistent enough, I know this thread is for grievances but im only upset im not playing it its a great deck

  • posted a message on Damage triggers and the stack
So i was looking at a modern bees decks and the deck had Boros reckoner and Hornet nest with the staple Blasphomeus act. Got me thinking if both reckoner and hornet nest are out when i cast blasphomues act, would i be able to stack the triggers to make 26 tokens?
    1 Blasmphomues act resolves
2 Damage is dealt to hornet nest and reckoner (same time if im thinking correcttly
3 Reckoner and hornet nest have abilities that trigger
4 stack them so reckoner deals 13 damage to hornet nest then hornet nest triggers seeeing 26 damage? or is it dead from the 13 from act before the reckoner can trigger in which case it hits an opponent for 13 instead

  • posted a message on [OGW] Kozilek, the Great Distortion and New Basic Land - Wastes???
So wastes seems pretty simple and simple to be real. personally i feel it should have been a regular land instead of full art to have some reminder text though the mana symbol at the bottom would indicate that it taps for <>. after reading some of the posts here it seems that the <> would merely be colorless and a cost of <> has to be exclusively colorless. Ive seen a few posts here saying that lands from here on should use <> instead of 1 which i cant see happening. have a 1 instead is way better for a new player to learn how to play than <> which would even confuse older returning players. also if a land produces a colorless mana under most circumstances it will only ever be used as a colorless mana.
The problem im seeing a few others here as well is the playability of cards requiring colorless exclusive mana in other formats. From what i can think of there are very few modern decks that would be able to use it, mostly just tron which all ready has enough things to play, as most decks if they use colorless at all would be ghost quarter and it has better uses most likely. Legacy is a little bit better off, if anything reaches legacy power levels as almost every deck plays wasteland and a good amount also use Ancient Tomb/City of traitors or lands like Rishadan Port so should there be something playable in legacy requiring colorless it could be useable in legacy.
All of this is also assuming <> is merely Must be colorless or used as colorless. Be nice to have something officially spoiled with reminder/rules text and or an official ruling released. Either way if they are real this will be nice for colorless edh as colorless is a pretty expensive investment and could certainly use some cheap lands and especially be able to play against things like Ghost quarter ruination Wave of vitroil etc

Personally i dont think that the mirror pool is real to me it seems like the <> is just a cost much like snow and phyrexian mana were never actually produced explicitly just used a source of specific mana much like any given color. for the land to require a colorless in its cost to copy would be fine to me but producing <> seems off to me

Im not entirely happy with this set but im happy with what it is. theres a lot of good cards at common and uncommon so drafting should be interesting. Im sure theres a few new decks that will come up for standard which is always a good thing. Not the worst set ever but i guess it could have been a little bit better

**** you evolving wilds seriously I know it's a simple reprint ahs impacts nothing but can they reprint terramorphic expanse switch it up a bit or a new again just to switch it up. Nothing more tiring than the same card every set.
Good art though I do like that part of it

Im sure there's some reason you want to blink everything like a suture priest card but overall i think youd be better off with a card like wrath of god even if it is boring and all ready been done before.
However if you need more you also have Flickerwisp and personally i love the card. many many many uses and its a lot more fun with aether vial to give it flash

  • posted a message on What's the difference between Elves and Goblins (aside from flavour)?
elves generally ramp into something like emrakul, the aeons torn or craterhoof behemoth to win. Goblins utalize aether vial and win with numbers and at least in legacy play control with their lands rishadan port and wasteland. i have no idea how modern works but i pretty much know the legacy decks. as the above post said you could try merfolk which would also use aether vial

  • posted a message on Current Popularity of Tiny Leaders?
It was never really super popular where i play. there was a couple of people who played it but overall no one really seems to care. ive been trying to get into and i have a couple decks put together but ive litterally only played once. my friend also tried to get into it and has actually been able to play and he doesnt like. too competetive and consistent might as well just play legacy and i totally agree

Problem I see is the casting requirement for this and then into twin while not impossible and probably easier than I give it credit is still a large commitment to all 3 colors and won't play well against a blood moon where the other 2 only need 1 specific mana to be cast
