Thats a funny coincidence, Just last night I was messing around with something pretty similar. I like cheap decks, too, but this still loses to RDW at the moment, but costs about the same to make. So, your sideboard needs to be aimed at beating red. You could add more removal like Devouring Flesh. I have a tough time figuring out this matchup, though. It seems they get perfect draws every time. I prefer playing this deck over red, though, because its more engaging, more unique, and not played by 50% of the people in the daily's. Plus, it can win mid-game (unlike red which usually needs to win in 5 turns).
Against Esper, you need Pithing Needles. A needles with Aetherling named really debilitates their deck. If you can get two out and name Jace, Architecht then they are screwed.
Pack Rat just straight up a win vs Maze End decks and in general this is a good matchup against Green/White.
Here is my Rat Attack deck. Its pretty fun and you can tell the people with $100's of dollar decks get annoyed when they lose. I won 3 1on1 ticket matches in a row last night, but i only went 1-2 in the daily.
Hello, I'm new to the forum and back into magic. I'm old, 32, and used to play magic back in the day as a kid when Revised was all the rage. I kept up with it for a while (in highschool, winning money at the loacal card shop was like a second job) but it eventually fizzled when i went to college. The game has changed a lot, it seems, but its still really fun. I decided to focus on RTR so i dont have to concern myself with all the block inbetween when i quit (which was around Masques Block) and now.
I started with some deck posted online and changed a few things to add my own flavor with this deck. When the stars align, of course, this deck can be a huge beatdown and in the MTGO 'Tournament Practice' room i do very well. However, a few dailys have not been very kind with this deck and I havent done well.
I've been getting beat by white/green aggro decks the most. It seems that my creatures are simply too small and after a few turns he doesnt care that he is at 12 life because out come his mid range creatures and populated all over the place. Sometimes, he has enough small creatures to hold me off and there is virtually no early game. A green deck can get a 3/3 for 2 mana, a 4/4 for 3 mana, and a 5/5 for 4 mana! My creatures are just too dang small against this.
As an aside, i really like Spark Trooper and i might add a 4th. In the mid/late game it has been an invaluable surprise to people and against other RDW's the extra life has proven to be the deal breaker. There have been many games where by turn 6 or 7 if i just drew one it would be over only to not draw one and have the control deck, for example, now take control of the game. A few times, if land flooded, a double strike Spark Trooper from Boros Charm on turn 6 has won the game.
Any critique would be welcome. Maybe i have too many small crappy creatures and need more removal?
