  • posted a message on Need Help Building Bruna
    Bruna, Light of Alabaster

So I received her in a trade a few days ago and I am itching to build her. The problem is as I look at deck lists my concept isn't the same as theirs and that makes me wonder if I am going about this the right way or not.

Considering she is in the colors she is I automatically see Pillowfort, she has all the best enchantments and of course artifacts to enforce the pillow fort, not to mention the synergy with Sphere of Safety and all the auras I would want to run.

I also it would be cool to have creatures that benefit from all the auras I would want to run also, so those small creatures that have the wonderful Heroic Trigger would actually be viable in a deck like this. Hero of Iroas, Favored Hoplite, Phalanx Leader just some examples.

Then run a bunch of small auras Ordeal of Heliod, Ordeal of Thassa, Daily Regimen for example to get triggers or when Bruna pulls them all onto her at once she is voltron to finish.

My concern is that Im going in to many directions, should I focus on the pure Pillowfort/voltron bruna or should I focus on Heroic trigger/bruna to finish. Or is the orginal concept doable? Opinions please

I wrote this back during the rtr/gatecrash/dm block. I hope you enjoy it

    A Night at Three Turns
Three Turns...known mostly for the crowd that inhabits the pub. Out of the many planes, planeswalkers find themselves coming to this secluded pub to relax. A sanctuary of sorts, no one causes any kind of commotion around the pub as all planeswalkers agree that everyone needs a place to let it all go. This is just another night at Three Turns

Years have past since Ajani found himself at Three Turns. Entering the pub to find the place empty other than himself and of course Santorelli, the owner/bartender.

“Long time no see Ajani, what are you having?” Santorelli asks smoothly.

“A tankard,” Ajani responds sitting down at the bar with a large sigh. Santorelli sets a huge tankard of domestic infront of him, the nacatl watching the foam slowly go down almost zoning off before taking a large drink.

“One of those days eh?” Santorelli says, turning around continuing to wash glasses.

“You could say that ... maybe it’s just been too long since I kicked back and relaxed,” he states, taking another large drink.

“I hear you there.” Santorelli says with a smile pouring himself a shot raising it towards Ajani, then puts it back.

Some time passes Ajani still the only customer so far, on his third tankard when the door opens, “Oh Jace! Stop it,” loudly said as Liliana and Jace walk through the door. Liliana practically dragging Jace in as they head to the bar sitting down next to Ajani, who has no reactions to the two coming in. “Two perfect martinis.” Liliana says.

    “Peanuts,” Jace says shortly after.

“Coming right up,” Santorelli says as he was already mixing the martinis placing two glasses in front of the Jace then Liliana, pouring the martinis and dropping olives into the glasses followed a second later by bag of peanuts between the two glasses. Jace being the first to take a drink followed by Liliana.

“Ohhhh this is good ... Santorelli, perfect like always,” Liliana says smiling.

“Thank you.” he quickly responds going back to what he was doing.

Liliana continues sipping on her martini, looking towards Ajani. “Been a long time since you graced us with your presence,” she says coldly towards Ajani.

“He’s been busy Liliana” -Jace says before Ajani responds- “ it can't be easy always doing what is right.”

Ajani responds with a large drink from his tankard finishing it. “Sigh ...”

The door swinging open slamming loudly stopping the conversation saving Ajani from having to respond. A huge man bending down to enter thru the doorway comes in. “Sorry Santorelli,” Garruk says, shutting the door.

“Not a problem big guy, want your usual?” Santorelli says, placing a new tankard in front of Ajani, Garruk nods as he sees Jace and Liliana and with a slight nod towards Jace, avoiding eye contact with Liliana, Garruk sits at the bar. Santorelli sets down a huge skull Mug with a straw, chugging the drink Garruk nods to Santorelli in satisfaction, already having another drink ready for Garruk taking the empty mug and setting down the new one.

“Hey Ajani,” Garruk says, taking a small drink after.

Ajani looks at Garruk dimm eyed and buzzed, “Garruk,” Ajani says lifting his tankard up then takes a drink.

“What no hello for me Garruk?” Liliana obviously poking fun at Garruk.

Santorelli’s eyes shoot over, ready to keep the peace, Ajani for the first time shows interest in what's going on looks toward Santorelli; then Garruk; and finally at Liliana. Garruk raises his hand at the bartender showing it is ok, “Hi Vess ...” Garruk almost says in a growl. Proud of herself Liliana takes a drink of her martini.

Sometime passes and Liliana looks at Jace placing her hand on his cheek. “Dance with me?” she says, standing up pulling Jace after her as they both go over to the jukebox, Jace puts a coin into the machine and jazz fills the bar. Liliana begins dancing, moving very vibrantly with the music, Jace, just stepping side to side with the beat pulls Liliana right up to him, bodies close together, his hands firmly on her waist. A few minutes pass and another song begins. The music is darker and slower, the two entranced in each others eyes, when the door swings open.

“Yawn ... who listens to this,” Chandra says as she walks in, sticking her tongue out at Liliana who is staring daggers her way, sitting next to Garruk. “Hi Rukkie!” Chandra says setting her elbow on the bar and leaning forward showing off her cleavage to Garruk who just takes a big drink from his mug and looks away, making Chandra laugh as she sits down next to the big guy. “The usual Sal,” Chandra says down to Santorelli.

”You know my name Chandra,” he says rolling his eyes and sliding down a mug.

“I like Sal.” Taking a huge drink of her beer and letting out a huge belch.

“Don't you have any manners,” Liliana says sitting back down at the bar Jace close after her.

“Don't you have any taste!” Chandra jumps off her chair and goes to the Jukebox. “Ahhh here we go.” Rock now fills the bar, Chandra dancing her hands running through her fiery red hair she looks over at Garruk biting her lip. “Rukkie! Come dance with me,” she says running over to Garruk.

“I would rather n-” Chandra pulls him to the dance floor. She begins to dance, pressing her body against the massive man as he stands there looking unsure what to do.

Jace looks over to Ajani, “got something on the mind bud?”

Ajani looks towards Jace ” ... do you really have to ask me that?”

Jace smirking, “how about a game of pool?” -Looking at the upset Liliana- “Just one game” he says finishing his martini and eating the olive.

Ajani smiling and getting up, “would you get me another Santorelli?” Ajani says walking over to the pool table.

As Jace walks past Chandra and Garruk he smirks, poor guy has no clue whats going on, Jace thinks to himself as Ajani waits for him pool balls ready to go.

The music stops and Garruk quickly heads back to the bar finishing his drink, “Santorelli,” he says holding up the mug.

The bartender making a new drink setting it in front of him. “You know, there is worse things than dancing with a girl, Garruk.”

“To you ...” Garruk says, chugging most of his drink, making the bartender smile and walk away.

“What's so wrong with us Garruk?” Liliana says smiling.

“Why do you care,” he says in a almost growl

Liliana scowling as she finishes her martini “Santorelli, refill for myself and Jace?” the bartender already mixing the drinks as though he knew it was coming.

Chandra then sits between Liliana and Garruk facing the dark temptress. “Why do you have to be such a *****? You know he doesn't like you, hell you cursed him almost killing him!” Garruk gritting his teeth at the thought of it.

“Oh get over it ... he also almost killed me a million times after but I am still civil here in Three Turns,” Liliana takes a drink of her martini, “anyways if he didn't want to be cursed he shouldn't have let one of his little pets tread onto my territory.” Liliana looks at Garruk gripping his mug, “you did turn into a badass though Garruk, just saying you rocked that black magic really well,” she says smiling into her martini.

“I wasn't myself” Garruk mumbles looking down and finishes his drink.

Chandra turning to him with a reassuring smile. “Don't let it get you down ... Sal another round for me and Rukkie.”

*Crack* over at the pool table Jace breaking and sinking a stripe and solid off the break, “Stripes.”

Ajani leaning against the wall as Jace shoots. “Why are you with her?” he asks after Jace sinks another ball.

“She understands me, she can make it so I can't hear her thoughts, so it can be peaceful. Not to mention she is pretty damn sexy,” Jace says as he sinks another ball.

“Psh ... humans and physical desire,” Ajani responds. Jace finally misses a ball, Ajani steps up to the table and begins sinking solids.

“Ya no kidding,” Jace says looking up seeing Chandra running a finger down Garruk’s abs, the massive man once again having awkward look on his face. Liliana now facing Jace and Ajani her back to the bar she winks at Jace as Ajani sinks another ball.

“8 ball Corner Pocket.” Jace quickly looking down at the table surprised that Ajani ran the table so easily.

“What the ...” as the 8 ball rolls into the corner pocket. “I guess I gotta stop going easy on you,” Jace says smiling.

“Keep telling yourself that,” Ajani says walking back over to the bar, taking a big drink of from his tankard.

“Best two out of Three?” Jace says jokingly.

Jace walks over to have Liliana pull Jace into her wrapping her legs around him and kissing him. “Lets get out of here,” she says smiling.

“Sounds good” -Jace looks at Ajani- “thanks for the game” -then to Santorelli- “I got his,” throwing coins at the bartender who catches them without ever stopping what he is doing. Ajani nods at Jace as they leave.

“Don't try so hard,” Liliana says to Chandra as they pass Garruk and Chandra.

“Oh shut up,” she says, smiling back at Garruk.

“See ya Jace ... ” -Liliana looks back- “ ... you to Vess.” mumbled by Garruk, making Liliana smile, while Jace pulls her close walking out of Three Turns.

“Good since they're gone how bout we have some fun!” Chandra says getting up about to get on the bar, grabbing the bottom of her shirt and lifting up, to get the death stare from Santorelli, “Ok ok Sal, not tonight” she says smiling, getting down and looking at Garruk. “How about you walk a lady home big guy?” Garruk looking around confused and just shrugs, “Great!” Chandra grabs Garruk's arm, “God you must work out,” she says cuddling up to the large man. Garruk sets down some coins for his. “Put it on my tab Sal,” Chandra yells back as they walk out of Three Turns. Santorelli rolls his eyes as he puts another ticket on a huge stack; setting a stone with Chandra’s name on it ontop of it.

“First one here, last to leave,” Santorelli says to Ajani.

“I came here tonight to let off some steam, as the night went on something has been bothering me,” Ajani says taking a huge drink of his tankard and setting it down empty, “why do you stay here?” he says calmly towards the bartender. “You could do so much more.”

Santorelli stops and looks at Ajani. “I have no desire for more ... how did you know?” he says with a smile, continuing to dry a glass.

“I may not be able to look into people’s minds like Jace, or deceive people like Liliana, but I can sense people’s souls and with that the spark of walkers. I have never sensed so much power from a spark, when you were about to interfere between Garruk and Liliana, you let it slip and right away I knew.” Ajani stands up and setting down some coins. “Don't worry, your secret is safe, I just pray if the day ever comes you will be there,” Ajani says to Santorelli, walking out of Three Turns.

“I doubt the day will ever come when you planeswalkers couldn't handle the problems. Even then, what will you guys learn if you never lost. My true strength is the ability to stand on the sidelines knowing ... I could do everything, solve all the problems, yet seeing you all grow from those failures gives me all the satisfaction I need.” Santorelli says to himself as he walks to the door of Three Turns and locks it then disappears.

What about replacing those two lands with Battlefield Forge and Reflecting Pool? Both are on the cheaper end ($2-$6 USD) and enter play untapped, then cost nothing to use.

    Cheers!

I have Battlefield Forge the wife really doesnt want it, she hates that she takes 1 damage from it. As for reflecting pool my copies are in 3 color decks

I agree they could be basics but more times than not one of those two are producing a color that is lacking...Im not a fan of the tempts from 14 commander, mainly because they only seem worth while if your opponents buy into them also. All of those sunforger suggestions are solid. Will keep them in mind

Eh, I found Ordeal to be more useful than you think, there is synergy with it. Anything that can increase Gisela's full on power without going full voltron, 10 life is huge and can turn the tide. Same with Congregate, this deck can put out of tons of creatures

I only have 1 copy of each of the path of exile and swords to plowshares and they are in another deck, trying to even out my removal in decks.

but thank you for the response, I do agree both sop and path would be perfect additions with sunforger

Its been 2 years since this deck was originally made. I personally have been a long time magic player and occasionally I get to convince my wife to come to game night and play some commander with some friends and this is the deck she uses. This deck is was made by me with her input. Of course I wouldn't mind suggestions. Enjoy My Wife's Wrath.

    THRAXIMUNDAR

He Who Paints the Earth Red

    Now Sacrifice Yourself!

He is coming. A dark knight from the hellish gates of Grixis. A dead warrior incapable of pity or remorse. A killer without equal. He takes no side and covets no kingdoms, the Act of War is pleasure in itself. Death itself stalks the land. He is coming ... Thraximundar
The Boy watched from the hill, until the smoke rising from the city blocked his view of the destruction. With each life taken, he could feel the Maelstrom expand with more energy - just as he wanted. Of course, there would have been easier ways to accomplish such destruction, but it wouldn't have been nearly so whimsical. Besides, Thraximundar was such a beautiful creation, so perfectly suited to mindless carnage, that Nicol Bolas didnt mind letting him run wild as he pleased, with a gentle nudge in the right direction. The dragon let his illusion of the little boy evaporate into the acrid air and resume his natural shape, with Thraximundar sweeping toward the green jungles of Naya, Bolas spread his wings and soars into the darkening sky.

I am a long time Thraximundar player, When I think of Grixis I think of Evil Punishing those to weak to defend themselves. This is the deck I play when someone pisses me off, Is it the best it can be, probably not but I have found in my area that this deck is more than efficient at putting a beating on the meta. The concept of sacrificing, is a mind game against your opponent. They have to pick which creature, not only that it gets past indestructible, hexproof, shroud, and many other things. But with any further ado.
