May round 1 is up. I'm a bit nervous. I'm starting to think I should have just gone with a more standard challenge. Hopefully people like to play a little "What if..." from time to time. Smile

Sweet! Thanks Antiantiserum! It's nice to have a full team of judges. It's also nice to add an antiantihero to the Avengers. Smile

I can host the May MCC if no one else has already stepped forward. I have an idea already lined up, but it's a little out there, so I hope it goes over well. My idea has nothing to do with Dominaria though, so if people would prefer to have a Dominaria themed month, perhaps someone else would like to take May and I can do June? Let me know.

Edit: @ void_nothing.....My idea has nothing to do with the one I PMed you about a while back.

You have my total as 22.5, but your scores add up to 23.

Seems as though the MCC has fallen to me. I'll get that up in a bit.
When I saw that no one had posted the MCC midway through the 1st, I started to write up a month of challenges, but you beat me to the punch. I'll have it done in time to host next month. Not that that does you much good now. Smile As always, thanks for the work you do to keep these contests going.

I don't know why the focus is on my score. I'm not discussing my score, and I'm typing in English so I don't know what the problem is. I understand that my entry was not perfect. I am, however, deeply concerned that I will be unable to participate in any event in which IcariiFA is participating.

Almost every day of the week I work until 10/10:30, workout from 11-12, come home and eat, then do my cards. Not once has my schedule caused a problem as a contestant, organizer, or judge. Yet now that IcariiFA has seemingly determined to watch my time and submissions like a hawk, there are all sorts of things he can do to make participating a real chore, presumably just for me, but possibly for everyone else. If he's organizing he can close rounds right at midnight ET before I get home, something no one has done in the past. If he's judging in the MCC or judging/participating he can just disqualify me, etc etc...
I don't want to get too far into the discussion going on here (which is why I crossed out the parts of your post that don't pertain to what I'm about to say and bolded the part I'm trying to focus on), but I would like to warn you that relying on the organizer to be late closing a round is probably not the best idea. I bring this up to try to save you the frustration of missing a deadline because you assumed the organizer wasn't going to close the round on time. I've seen organizers close right on time, and it is well within their rights to do so. You're correct that everyone here should try to foster a fun and friendly environment, but you have to realize that it is not fun for someone who stayed up beyond their normal bedtime to ensure they got their card in by the deadline only to find out that someone else was allowed to post their card much later. I understand that you have not done this, but your post implies that you plan for the host not to close the round at the exact time they say they're going to. Please forgive me if I'm somehow misinterpreted your post.

Personally I don't think we should allow the fact that we aren't working at Wizards to hamper our card designs or our creativity. Were I judging Gerrard Mom's card, I wouldn't take off any points. A card's viability should not be tied to the card's designer's employment status.
I get what you're saying here kj, and I employ the same thought process a lot of the time, but if you're not going to deduct points in the MCC for a card failing to fit into the current rules of Magic, then why ask the question "Does it bend or break the rules of the game?" in the viability section of the rubric? Even if you did work in Magic R&D, and had the ability to change the rules to allow for a specific design, I would still think that the fact that you would need to do so would weigh heavily in the decision of whether or not to print the card.

I agree that two card challenges should be allowed for the finals.

Honestly it irks me that these sorts of pie-in-the-sky ideas get votes over my clearly more awesome more practical designs, which is why I haven't been posting many cards lately. That's my own perogative though... Shocked
    Quote from Rudyard »
i'll often see other folks post designs in the DCC that i've done before, sure we all do, but this is the first time it's happened twice on the same day
I doubt this was intended, but Rudyard's post goes a long way towards answering Anachronity's post. I also see people post designs I've posted in the past, and I also don't fool myself into believing that my designs haven't been thought of by someone else before me. When you've been at this card design thing long enough, you tend to see a lot of the same designs being unintentionally rehashed by different people, which is one of the reasons people tend to vote for "pie in the sky" ideas. I sometimes discount a design I've seen before, even if it is an original design that I assume the person came up with all on there own. I try not to, but it can be difficult when you've seen the same basic card several times before. It must be even more difficult for people like Rudyard and void_nothing, since they've been doing this even longer than I have. Interestingly, the netn10 design that Anachronity is calling "pie in the sky" is an example of a design I discounted because I've seen it several times in the past. I do give netn10 credit for trying to word in way that might work (although I don't think it does). Usually people say something like "Creatures you control have first strike while fighting".

    Edit: From the 8/30/15 DCC....
