Limited Resources is the only good mtg podcast that I have found.

I am really disappointed with MTG cast. The audio is very inconsistent and every podcast seems to be from weeks ago.

Shout out to bump in the night, this is the only quality cast on the network, but its a edm podcast named after a magic card. Not an MTG podcast.

I would really like to find a quality podcast, any suggestions?

    Thanks!

But I have a new question. How does this sidestep Platinum Emperion?

Your life total still can't change, right?

A column on the Mothership by Mike Cannon claims that Mages' Contest card in combo with Mindslaver can kill an opponent.

For context please go read the article:

    http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/ftl/274

Skipping all the setup and getting right to the life bidding. My initial assumption is that the bidding of life should be accomplished by paying life, or rather by agreeing to pay life later.

118.4. If a cost or effect allows a player to pay an amount of life greater than 0, the player may do so only if his or her life total is greater than or equal to the amount of the payment. If a player pays life, the payment is subtracted from his or her life total; in other words, the player loses that much life. (Players can always pay 0 life.)

This rule establishes that you can not pay life that you don't have.

    1. Can you "bid" life that you don't have?

    2. If you are allowed to bid life that you don't have, when it comes time to pay up is the effect is illegal and therefore countered? Or is rule 118.4 sidestepped by the extra step of bidding before payment?

Thank you for your time and opinion!

Mark Rosewater's preview card for today is Boon Satyr. This rare creature is a 4/2 for 1gg that has flash and bestow 3gg.

Bestow is a new mechanic that allows enchantment creatures to be cast as a creature aura for an alternative cost. When the aura is removed from the creature the enchantment creature is left on the battlefield.

How do you think that flash will interact with bestow?

At first glance it seems that the card is both enchantment and creature, and has flash, but the alternative casting cost makes me wonder if the bestow can be done at instant speed or just as a sorcery.

Yeah I over looked that CMC should be >1. Basically was tired of seeing this card dismissed in M14 draft.

I realize that forum goers know better. So why don't more of you post draft videos? Youtubers are making money, and they suck a drafting.

I have been watching some youtube draft videos of M14, and have been shocked at the terrible analysis of Voracious Wurm

    Two improper analyses occur:

    1) This is unplayable because I will never see the upside of a turn 2 5/5 wurm, and I never learned that green needs bears in limited.

    2) I'll take it, but now I will over prioritize life gain and draft a weak deck. I would like to splash this doom blade, but that elixir would make my wurm a 7/7!!! Yes, it does and then it gets doom bladed.

I am not a swindler that frequents the taverns, trust me, if CMC = Power = Toughness, and CMC < 6, then it is playable in every limited deck.

First and foremost, If opened a foil goyf and a normal goyf, then I am passing the goyf to the lucky sob next to me. I want to be a part of the community, and I do not want to be RFG'd or TSG'd or any other G'd.

This is purely for discussion not to antagonize, on the topic of who owns the packs that you draft with.

I understand that as far as WotC is concerned the packs are owned by the shop as event materials, and not "yours" until the draft is over. As a member of the MTG community I adhere and respect all rules set by the governing body of said community, in this case this is WotC.

For sake of discussion. I submit that this is all well and good, but in the eyes of US law I am pretty sure that as soon as those cards are in your hand they are yours. It was understood that these are for a game, but you are not required to participate in a game against your free will. If you make it to the door unmolested and are on the street. Game over, granted everyone thinks you suck and can never come back to the shop, but those are your cards.

If you were assaulted by an impassioned patron that would be a very real problem for the shop, I am pretty sure the cops are going to arrest the person who used violence, and not the perceived thief. If they just keep repeating "they took my money and wouldn't let me leave with the merchandise", and play the victim it is very unlikely the cops detain them.

If a shop employee assaulted you, that would be the end of the shop. A $400 dollar payday just became a full on lawsuit. The kind of person that would pull this BS is exactly the person that would sue the shop.

Remember I wouldn't do any of it: steal, assault or sue.

    Am I wrong?

Imagine the prosecution calling for a "judge", the mtg kind, in a real courtroom. Grin

How about the Golden Fleece? An artifact inspired by that would be extremely interesting.

A reference to the alchemy or trade interpretation of the fleece would be interesting.

Golden Fleece: Artifact. Sac an artifact and place a gold counter on <cardname>. Remove three gold counters from <cardname> add three mana of any color that opponents lands could produce.

    Nix

Counter target spell if no mana was spent to cast it.

If this card used in Nix, then we may see alternative casting cost spells returning. The last time we had alternative casting cost was Mercadian Masques and Cold Snap and Cold Snap was a freak. We're about 14 years into the game without alternative casting cost block, which would make for an interesting mechanics when dealing with combat.

Wasn't phyrexian mana a form of alternative casting cost?

They also have some pretty famous artifacts. REAL artifacts, not magic cards. Rolleyes

How about level up, with a twist?

    Quest Man W
    Creature
Level up: Attack a player, 1/1
Level 2-3> Level up: Deal combat damage to a creature, 3/3
Level 3+> First strike, Vigilance, 5/5

    Too complicated, but fun!

I like it! Some version of this could be really interesting, and play on the labors of Hercules myth.

Speculation: The participants of the pre-release will have a card with 12 tasks to complete in order to earn a prize.

These will mirror the labors of Hercules. Hopefully one of them won't require us to "clean the stables" or bathrooms of the shop. Kekeke

I think this is more about the flavour of the set than its mechanics

Maybe in Theros we see a idilic place ruled by mythos with heroics quests and etc... With gods living side by side with mortals.
In born of the gods we see some spaghetti flying monster/ AKA Bad gods Entering Theros
In Journey into Nyx The GOOD gods with The Heroes of THEROS will go to Nyx (a kind of underword of the plane ) to an all in against the Bad gods

This seems more plausible, especially because of the day/night mechanic in INN

Maybe we must "Journey into Nyx" due to the winter making Theros uninhabitable.

The set does not need that many artifacts for the forge to be relevant. The gorgons of myth and the Xanthrid Gorgon of M13 are able to make artifacts out of creatures.

This could be seen as an ability of a gorgon or an ability granted to a creature by equipping the head of a gorgon.

The word Theros means summer in Greek. Could we see a season change theme? Nodding the Affirmative

A great example of this in Greek myth is Persephone. She is allowed to return to Earth during summer (Theros) and must return to Hades during winter (next set?). This had a dramatic effect on the Earth, especially on living things.

I am speculating we will see a mechanic that allows creatures to return from the graveyard to the battlefield as the "seasons" change, and requires them to return to the graveyard when the "seasons" change back.

Maybe the first main phase will be our "summer", and the second will be "winter". Some creatures will return for summer and see the attack phase, while others will return for winter. There are many other possibilities.

The movement between these two realms is a significant theme in Greek myth, and would allow for the inclusion of Psychopomp-like creatures that guide the mortals on this journey.

Whether this would make for good game play is another question.
