I can't express how happy I am that they reverted the functionality.

This card is the ONLY card in the history of Magic where the MTGO printing didn't "count". Matt Tabak uses "this card was printed and works that way on MTGO - we can't change it because MTGO counts as a printing" all the time to justify keeping cards the way they are (Lotus Vale, etc).

But this was printed and worked in MTGO with the untap clause. I should know, I re-built the deck I loved from my childhood with Icy Manipulators and Relic Barriers and had a great time in casual for a few months. Until out of nowhere, they decided to strip the clause away. I've been emailing them/posting about it for years. It was truly an anomaly to their stated policy, and they never gave a good reason for why they did it.

So this is actually undoing a great injustice that's lingered for a decade or so. I could not be happier.

Just hope it doesn't become prohibitively good in legacy, otherwise it'll just get banned instead. Then maybe they can print a functional reprint of the "fixed" version that will no longer exist now that they've errata'd it? What a weird situation!

Now THIS.... THIS is it. This is exactly what the set needed to be a step above in my book.

but only slightly more likely in packs then Foil mythics, very rare, what are the odds of a foil mythic anyway?

I usually open one in a booster box so I'd say one in 36 packs. In the last four boxes I opened (I usually preorder one box of a set), I got Empty the Pits, Shaman of the Great Hunt, Narset Transcendent and Woodland Bellower.

You are unusually lucky. I've opened 14 boxes since I started collecting 2 and a half years ago, and I've opened exactly 2 foil mythics, and from what I've read that is about the average I should have expected as well. I think it's like 1 per 216 packs if I recall correctly?

I wish they said "unless you control two other lands with basic land types." or something like that, so that if I had 2 of these on the field, the third comes in untapped, that way I don't need ACTUAL basic lands, which makes these cards much worse than otherwise. They seem kind of weak, but they're VERY welcome in Standard, because fetches are underwhelming without some kind of duals to fetch, so in standard these definitely help out there. They really need to print the other 5 for the cycle soon though, I don't like the idea of only half the 10-cycle existing.

I actually prefer the art on the regular frames on these.

It's a good card, but I kind of agree that it didn't need to be mythic. I think some folks are underappreciating the 8 toughness on this guy, there isn't much that can take him out one-on-one in this standard right now... I'm sure there will be some 8 power Eldrazi in BfZ. Dragonlord Atarka and Gaea's Revenge (whom this guy trades with 5/8 vs 8/5) are the only ones that will be in standard with this guy. The effect is pretty good in this standard. Villainous Wealth gets much better when followed up by this guy, and then all the Delve cards being flung around often exile a lot of lands that you can then grab with this as well. It passes on the body alone and the effect can't be countered by countering the creature himself, and so it's a overall a pretty good card, but I think it should have been rare not mythic.

I do have legacy and vintage cards. Should I be selling legacy and/or vintage, but keeping my modern & standard stuff? I've got a full set of Power 9, which has probably seen the overall biggest drops in value out of my collection this past week. I'm not sure if these cards are going to tank or not from a power 9 point of view, but also from a legacy point of view? The sad thing, those are my 2 favorite formats to play, and I pretty much play MTGO primarily for those formats, because there is a place around me that if I wanted to I could go play modern & standard, but nowhere I can go play legacy/vintage. So while I do play modern & standard on MTGO, they aren't my preferred formats. Is it silly of my to hold on to these legacy/vintage cards and watch them tank, or will the tanking stop and I'll be OK?

I would like to say I am going to quit playing MTGO but I unfortunately have no place to play paper right now. I am just really getting concerned the value of my collection is going to evaporate. Stuck between a rock and hard place here.

This is where I'm at right now with this, too.

I have no place to play paper, so I have no intentions of quitting MTGO. However, I've invested *a lot* into my MTGO account. My MTGO collection has dropped over $300 in value this week (about 10% drop)! I'm already a little ticked off about that, but if it doesn't tank much more, I'll be fine with it in the long run, but if it's going to keep tanking, God, I want to get out BEFORE it tanks too low. That's my primary concern. I don't want to sit here this time next week or in a couple weeks and wonder why the hell I didn't sell when I could have gotten a thousand dollars more for this collection! What advice do you all have for me?

Out of curiosity, where do you guys see the money value of the already spoiled cards landing? Are they going to be the cheapest printing available? The most expensive one available? Depends on the card, I'm sure... Like the white Akroma, it's been printed a number of times and some printings are like 3 bucks, others are like 15 (Divine vs Demonic foil). Is there any way to guess where this new art, foil version will fall on the price spectrum? What about something like Avacyn, which has never been reprinted before? What will happen with that?

I feel like usually these FTV printings are lower in price than the other versions, but I'm not certain.

I wonder if Razia, Boros Archangel or Aurelia, the Warleader will be in there? Though Gisela, Blade of Goldnight is some fierce competition for the RW Angel slot, assuming there's just one.

Aurelia, the Warleader is out since she comes alphabetically before Avacyn who is #3 in this set.

Fairly confident that's a 5 on Avacyn. Compare it to the number below for the expansion "V15".

    My tentative speculation:
Akroma, Angel of Fury; Akroma, Angel of Wrath; Angel of Despair; Aurelia, the Warleader; Avacyn, Angel of Hope; Baneslayer Angel; Blinding Angel; Fallen Angel; Iona, Shield of Emeria; Jenara, Asura of War; Linvala, Keeper of Silence; Platinum Angel; Restoration Angel; Serra Angel; Twilight Shepherd.

    You're right, it's card 5 not 3.

I like your list, and it seems reasonable. However I really hope they can fit in Sigarda, Host of Herons! Get rid of Fallen Angel, it really doesn't fit despite being an Angel, it's unusual and in no way archetypal of Angels. I'd also like something like Entreat the Angels... maybe get rid of Serra Angel (I'm sure it'll be in just because it's iconic, but it's really quite a useless card to reprint at this point, there are already like 20 printings, including an average of more than 1 printing per year every year for the past 6 years) or Twilight Shepherd?
We should add a number crunch to the first post:

    01 Akroma, Angel of Fury
    02 Akroma, Angel of Wrath
    03 Avacyn, Angel of Hope
    04
    05
    06
    07
    08
    09 Iona, Shield of Emeria
    10
    11
    12
    13
    14
    15

Regarding "wasted" cards, FTV is as much about history as it is about famous cards. Kird Ape was in FTV: Exiled because of how ludicrous banning Kird Ape was. Desert was in FTV: Realms because it's a nonbasic land that, because of the rules (e.g., two cards from Arabian Nights refer to deserts), had to be given a subtype. FTV: Annihilation used Firespout because 'they needed a green card'. (I would've used Thicket Basilisk because of a certain combo, but that's just me. Also, I don't think FTV has to be balanced by color, since it's a nonrandomized supplemental product.)

Based on the full-size scan of Avacyn that I'm looking at on this page:
    http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/arcana/vault-angels-product-shot-2015-07-22

I'm 100% CERTAIN that Avacyn is #5, not #3. You can zoom in really good on that picture. The final digit in the card number to the left of the slash is identical to the 5 in the "015" on the right of the slash.

  • posted a message on Part Dredge, part Flashback (OK, mostly Dredge) - it's Recall!
Well it certainly passes the "is it any good" test by merit of being able to replicate Dredge, which is itself a good mechanic. It's Dredge with upside, because it can be exactly Dredge, or it can be Dredge with totally different costs. I don't see how it's too good, either, because the cost can be balanced to be whatever it needs to be so it isn't too good, but there's room to really, really push it. It could be looked at as sort of a bastardization of the concepts of Dredge, Retrace, and maybe Buyback. Closest to Dredge of course. There are definitely some cards where it would require a very hefty cost to tack on a Recall ability, like say a Shock effect, you'd have to require something like sacrifice a land (maybe even more than that?) so that you can't just keep choosing to "draw" a Shock every turn to close out a win in burn. But again, the balance can be built into each card by installing a fair cost because the ability is so versatile in how you can cost it.
