A New and Exciting Beginning

The End of an Era

I like the card a lot from a design perspective in that he is a good body for his cmc and has a lot of interesting interactions with different spells/boardstates. Really a jack-of-all-trades type card. But I'm not sure if he will find a home in my cube or not. He sure does look good in a deck with a couple wraths in it, that's for sure. Man, I haven't even gotten a chance to play with monastery mentor yet. So many new and interesting cards so close together. I think this guy does warrant some testing.

It's interesting and a cool design, but I'm not too excited. Not blocking is pretty ka-ka-doo-doo, and no evasion makes this pretty worse than all the flying 4-mana options for that type of creature in the cube.

That phrase made me lol partly because I haven't heard it in about 25 years and partly because it very clearly captured my feelings on this card.

Nice. I wanted another good green fatty and this fits the bill. No need for me to trade for a worldspine wurm now.

Though Sidisi's stats obviously make her a good blocker, the deathtouch allows players to use her aggressively as well. To take out the 6 toughness when Sidisi's attacking, a player will need to at least double block it giving you a two for one. The deathtouch will allow that 4 damage to get through almost every time. That's not why this card is good but the deathtouch does make this card quite a bit better than without it.

I like this guy a lot. I'm not sure of my cut yet but Sidisi will be finding a place in my cube for sure. It's a big body for 5cmc and tutoring in cube is broken. I can deal with saccing a 1 or 2cmc creature (reassembling skeleton anyone?) to ensure I get my recurring nightmare or, if you know they have the removal, grab a living death or some other reanimation spell. This card gives you options, all of which are good, and that makes for a fun, varied and strong environment.

I will definitely test this over Psychatog who has not done much for our group in a while. 6cmc is not that much when you compare it to Sower of Temptation who appears in any deck who drafts it and is much more likely to be killed (burn, doom blade ect). As well, the ability to take a planeswalker is huge seeing that there are so many planeswalkers in cubes and that you often only need them for one turn to screw up your opponents plans.

I run all three in my 720 and I like they won't be leaving anytime soon. I recently ran the original Masticore and Razormane in a R/B reanimator deck and Razormane did great. Really helped stall the ground game while applying pressure and filling my yard with some fat. Great discard outlets all of them.

I hadn't considered that when making the thread as I assumed they were universally considered 'proxies'.

Interesting. So far there are more proxy users than non. I guess it makes sense that cubers want to play with the best cards in magic's history and the obscene amount of money certain cards are worth is a real barrier. I had just assumed that was the minority of cubers or people only proxied in testing. That being said, the people on this forum probably take Cubing more serious than most and would be more likely to use proxies in search of the"perfect" cube.

These proxies I'm adding will not only be my first proxies but my playgroups, all of whom own cubes. So I do expect to get some slack for it. What I don't want is people asking me if every good card they see in the cube is a proxy. I put a lot of time and effort into acquiring the other pieces of the cube and i don't plan on adding any other proxies in the future. My solution i think is to mark the perfect fit sleeves with a little black dot on the proxies as an indicator.

My cube will now have 15 proxies including Library, Candelabra, Mana Drain, Gaes Cradle, JTMS and Wasteland on top of the power 9. Some proxies I hope to replace over time with the real cards while others will just have to stay fakes unfortunately. I always liked playing with the real cards but that reserved list makes people do crazy things.

I ended up cutting one card from each guild and throwing Tasigur, Yasova, Soulfire, Alesha, the Warden and the Hordechief in a slush section where I keep my hybrid cards. Maybe over time I'll designate them to a specific guild section if testing proves them to be more inflexible than I originally thought, but for now I'm happy to not get too OCD about it.

You didn't include Collector's Edition. I'm not sure where they fall under as either 'the real deal' or 'proxies'. A lot of us use those.

I would definitely count them as proxies. They are cards that are not tournament legal that represent a card that is. They are good looking proxies with dollar value attached but I would define them as proxies nonetheless.

I recently purchased a proxy set of the Power 9 for my cube and it got me thinking about how many of the powered cubes out there use proxies and how many use the real cards. I own all my cards except the new proxies so I don't mind playing with some pretty expensive pieces of cardboard (I'm looking at you Underground Sea) but I don't think I would ever play with a real Black Lotus even if I did own one. I'm just too anal for that.

    Vote away!

I noticed wtlf123 was running Bosh, Iron Golem and I picked one up as a toss-in in a trade today. What are peoples experiences with this card? It seems like an amazing sneak attacker when you have 3 mana red mana red mana available. It would also be good as a reanimator or tinker target but it seems like you would want to at least be splashing red if that was the case.

    Thoughts?

I think I'm gong to test this guy out. I've been looking for more discard outlets in red to support reanimator and this guy fills that role while attacking for 4 and drawing a card. Seems good.
If you are primarily looking for another reanimation enabler, I think Gathan Raiders are a better option than Vaultbreaker.

Thanks for the recommendation but i don't run morph cards in my cube. I also think having a looter effect stapled to a hasted 4 power creature could be a good card in general, though probably best in reanimator decks. I think during testing I'll keep in mind the heelcutter and see which one i would rather have in that spot, if either.

In a 540 cube like yours, trilands are probably not needed but are a good inexpensive option to hold down the fort until you acquire a more long term answer. Between the filter lands, pain lands, checklands and the temples there are better ways to fill your land slots. And yeah, land cycles are a bit of a trap so mix and match between what's left the best way you think possible and adjust from there.
