yeah this will be a $5 card in a few weeks, and that's awesome
it's 10E now. it's not really that expensive and its barely played. it will probably go even lower than 5$. but nice artwork nonetheless. the first one i mean. the japanese ones look very well done but also very generic, like tons of artwork you can find on pixiv and the like.

People will balk at the 6-mana cost, but bargaining for four "free" mana can let you cast another spell from your hand (or wherever), presuming you don't activate the ability twice. Not sure if it's mythic, but it fits in well with the other 6-mana dragons easily enough.
it sure does seem like mythic slot filler. :/ it is probably an upgrade over flametong kavu but...

The first alternate art for Blood Moon is better, the one with the tower and banners; it feels more oppressive and desolate as compared to the second one.
i like the tower one better (perhaps because it reminds me of the old arts more) but i will have to see the actual card and not the render. the details of the image might get lost when rasterized for printing. we will see.
i'm not sure why they did not make textbox fully opaque on both versions though. it covers the art a bit on the castle one.

My step brothers I gonna love the white wrath for his Arcades, the Strategist decks (say 1 when arcades is not in play or indestructible 4 when arcades is in play.)

Conquest: OOOOOOOOH!!!! MY Garth One-Eye TOKEN DECK! to prove it

midnight: and that’s the remand of the set. It’s just barely worse than generous gift it can't shoot lands is the difference on the other hand the creature is smaller.

there is already a lot board wipes that can do the same thing. how many do they need? Grin

re conquest: the nice thing is that this is all done on resolution and you do not need to choose targets at cast. so no significant blow-outs are possible and you can sacrifice and reanimate the same thing which allows for blink-like shenaningans in black which is somewhat unusual.

Have the visuals for all the roles been shown yet?

I'm not certain about Virtuous (since it seems exclusive to the Commander deck?), but they showed six roles (on three cards) that apparently are in the main set: Monster, Royal, Sorcerer, Young Hero, Wicked, Cursed.
also the wicked/cursed seem to be printed incorrectly with their images swapped. the artwork looks great though on all of those:

oh, and we got otter we can actually play in edh... too bad it's not great really and not playable in pauper too. FREE LUTRI!

So, and I'm probably super slow on the uptake here but Bargain is the new batching mechanic?
yes, seems to me like a version of exploit but more prone to blow-outs by countermagic, dress down etc. much better in more confined environment where you will get additional value from something going into the graveyard which this set will probably be. i can imagine this will result from a lot of missed triggers from less experienced players. judges at prerelease will have quite a lot of work.

    tl;dr
    Modern: Preordain is unbanned.
    Legacy: Mind's Desire is unbanned.

Mostly irrelevant changes in my opinion, good to see unbannings but this made me cringe:
The One Ring and Orcish Bowmasters (...) While it is true that these two cards made big waves at the Pro Tour and within the format, these cards—The One Ring particularly—can fit into a variety of decks and a spread of macro-archetype strategies to comfortably compete within the format without overshadowing everything else present in Modern.

I'm not sure how immediate adoption of ring to 35% presence in metagame is not overshadowing but I have played the game for just 25 years so what do I know.

    See pre-announcement speculations here https://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/magic-fundamentals/the-rumor-mill/830331-b-r-announcement-whats-at-stake

It's not a divide of Ring decks and anti Ring decks like Ragavan did. Bolt has been very prevalent at times. and they alluded to it being the new toy. aside from Tron, it wasn't key in carrying anything to new levels. I bet in the next event it's not nearly so common
My opinion is that ring being able to slot into any deck is ubiquitous enough to be stifling for metagame diversity / deckbuilding. Also play patterns like resolve ring, draw, pass, opponent cannot do anything and passes, draw two, cast another ring etc are not healthy for the game. Funnily enough scam is safety valve for ring since early hand attack make this sort of plays less likely. What's less fun is that players are already not very happy about the effects of grief and fury have on the games so I'm not sure if encouraging those will be beneficial to the format.
Aaanyway the sky is not falling but I would prefer if we had environment without that card.

also cascade and suspend. and dauthi voidwalker is a card too.

    Quote from Porknz »
is there any trick to all of the different exiles?

i'm not sure what is the question here. how to manage logistics of the cards exiled from different effects? in most cases this will not matter since you care about cards cast from exile. this means the only thing you need to track is from where the card entering stack comes from. in most cases this will be hand so if the spell being cast comes from somewhere else just check if its from exile and that's it.
the real issue is the different duration of "cast from exile" effects from contemporary cards gives. most will be in three templates:
    - no time duration, can be played anytime (no need to keep track of time, no issue),
    - until the end of current turn (easy to track since you can keep them face up on the board somewhere and then move them to global exile pile at end of turn),
    - until the end of (your) _next_ turn (actual issue since you need to remember to move them to global exile pile after whole turn cycle which can take a few minutes. i would recommend having separate pile for them and at the beginning of your turn move them to pile from previous bulletpoint. fortunately rocco is not that effect so it will not come up frequently).

Duskmourn is... weird. I like the art showcased but... maybe it's because we're seeing so far ahead on the future, but to me it feels like it's an extremely shallow world concept-wise. Sure Arcavios or Kylem also had shades of this where aside from one place the entire world feels boring, but at least on these there was a world. Going by MaRo's description, Duskmourn is not a plane with a horror mansion, Duskmourn IS a horror mansion. Maybe we will eventually get a world to go with this (a fantasy take on the '50s Americana aesthetic could be cool) but as of right now, not really interested in the world conceptually.
The character on the image looks somewhat styled to 60s-70s fashion. The thing is that this is relatively modern non-fantasy look and he also holds some kind of device in hand... and its a horror mansion... So my guess its wotc trying to hop onto the phasmophobia-clones hype train. The train that has already departed in my opinion. This feels somewhat stale but since i appreciate any kind of eldritch horror i hope this will be interesting enough. A fresh look not associated with Inistrad. Wotc if anything is pretty good with flavor of their top-down designs.

This is the part I don't understand with the decision to extend the rotation season for Standard sets. This can all be solved if they had allowed sets to rotate out as they would have under the previous rotation schedule. But going three years instead of two is going to create a whole lot of problems and design won't catch up until roughly two years down the line.

In terms of Standard decks, this is the break down .

You had it on last 60 days. Click it to last 14 days and you will see black right up at the top. Meta is shifting to black black and black in Standard.

Do you understand how stats even work?
Red is clearly the best deck no question. 14 days of data is not a valid sample size. You come off as someone who tilted vs mono black decks recently
You remove sheoldred from standard and do nothing to red and then watch a 50% red metagame for years
Aggregated data from last two months from all events show representation for rdw at ~10%, multiple decks with black running playsets of sheoldred amounting to ~20%, 5c at ~10%. Excluding smaller events makes this ~5% for rdw, ~40% for decks running 4x sheoldred and ~10% for 5c and esper each. Decreasing the window to last two weeks for all events shows something in between results from those two timeframes. Soooo there really is a question from where your "Red is clearly the best deck no question" comes from. Hmmm?

Fury is a messed up Magic card. It's also a card that isn't from the hot new set they are trying to sell a Brazillion units of, so no, Ring & Bowmasters (also messed up Magic cards) have precisely a 0% chance of being banned.

    Sell your Fury's, I think.

The funniest thing about it all is, I think Bowmasters can't be banned b/c it was apparently designed a safety valve for One Ring in Standard. (Too bad they're both still way too good?! lol.)

I have really only been looking at stats lately and not play patterns but is Fury really the worst of them? Statistically speaking it's far from the most popular incarnation. It feels like Grief into Feign Death is the stronger play pattern?

not really. For grief the issue is only with opening hand with those two cards and it still relatively slow clock. fury is problematic in both early game as fast clock and late game when it provides x-for-1 advantage, clock and attacker. But mainly the issue is that it provides enormous advantage against creature based decks if they commit to the board virtually anything.
Frankly all incarnations are atrocious designs that led to invalidating most of decks not playing them.

I am a little bit more concerned about the outer space set and the death race set. Both looks very futuristic and completely Magic-unlike.

Big fan of the space set. Still look like fantasy enough for me.
Not a fan of the "Fast&Furious", cars don't belong in fantasy imo.

Alien thingies look fine. If they go more -punk aesthetics instead of scifi a lot of people will be happy. We did not really get anything spelljammer-like since Rath cycle, right?
Vehicles were pretty good addition into mtg rules and Kaladesh showed they can design them fitting fantasy environment. The ones from Capena and Kamigawa were much less fine but they were not leaning on them in overall set designs. This new designs look atrocious and it seems like they will be focus of the set. yuck

Sakiko is supposedly wearing a dress because they wanted to get around the ambiguity of her having legs or not, especially with the current situation of modern-day orochi not having legs because of something the kami did.
hmm this is supposed to be old version of sakiko. shouldn't the image represent the original charqcter?

Yeah out of all these "token effects" this is probably the worst. Monarch, day/night and the city's blessing is easy to remember, because they're simple, but this is just way too much.

Dungeons was similar, but at least there you could just go to the next room, activate the effect and you're done and can forget about the dungeon until the next time you or your opponent goes there. The ring has up to four constant effects during battle that you need to be conscious of all the time.
i would say day/night is very annoying as it requires players to constantly track something during each turn. this is comparable as it requires to familiarize yourself with wall of text and keep track of which parts apply. and unfortunately this seems playable enough to be used by players.
