I've seen some really nice Inspired decks that make use of Hidden Strings. Wouldn't be surprised if this card was what made those decks Standard playable. Also, dat Midas reference.
7/7 for 6 is already pretty nice. Even better if you keep in mind Green's ability to ramp. The Monstrosity can be easily paid in the right devo decks. Plus, it's a flavorful Hydra. Always like that.
My personal favorite is Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur. I love U in general. Ole' Jinjin embodies the color perfectly. He does so in such a brutish way. Why draw a card or two when you can draw an entire hands worth? Why make your opponent discard a few cards when you can make them dump their whole hand? He's a bit expensive, but there are plenty of ways to get around this.
I'm rather sure the OP posted this as trollbait, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
Not every rare is gunna be a $20 standard staple. You NEED average powered rares to make powerful rares good. Not everything is going to be good in constructed decks. Constructed is not the only part of the game, Limited is a large part as well. If you can't understand the concept of a balanced game, MTG may not be for you.
Also, WotC didn't hold you at gunpoint and force you to buy packs. You did that by yourself. Asking for a refund is silly and immature.
Exile target creature. Put a colorless artifact token named Gold onto the battlefield. It has "Sacrifice this artifact: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool."
Thoughts? Looks like another tools for mono black to use.
Phenax seems like a lazy design. Not much thought went into it, I think. You tap a creature and mill someone. That's all. It's a flavor fail also. It's supposed to represent mental torture, as you can probably gather. However, Phenax also physically tortured mortals. I expected mill, yeah, but mill that also did something with creatures.
But once again, U/B gets the lazy design that is strictly mill.
By replacing the draw cards with those "win the game" cards.
This line of thinking really only works in Aggro, where you want to be jamming as many threats as possible. Jund Aggro didn't have to worry about drawing Thragtusk because they could also draw into Scavenging Ooze, which can gain life too. Do you see what I'm getting at?
In Control, you want to be running only a handful of bombs. All the card draw you run in place of that can help you search for these bombs while also giving you ways to control the field and protect your wincon. This is where card draw shines and it's value is made clear, I think.
Card draw is primarily in control anyhow. It's certainly not overrated, imo.
Yeah, I think the best evaluation is similar to Cackling Counterpart. A card that looks good, but probably won't see play.
Cackling Counterpart didn't see any play because at the point it was Standard legal, there existed no deck/mechanic it could be used with. At the moment, one of the best preforming decks is Mono Blue Devotion. This card fits nicely as a 1-2 of in that deck at the very least. It contributes towards Devotion, making Master of Waves/Thassa easier to win with. It allows you to make a copy of a creature in response to the original getting targeted by removal. It even Scrys 2, provided you cast it on your turn.
You give one of the meta's top decks a toy like this, it'll see play.
He wasn't saying there was. He only said he didn't think they'd reprint it. And they probably won't, for the reason he stated. It'd just be redundant.
If a business was ripping off costumers, would you really want to shop there anyway?

By Jove, you're onto something. I must run this thing. It'd have to have some counterspells and card draw, but I think this could really work.
