Oh, and BTW, I'd love to watch Petr Sochurek's streams, I've been really enjoying his approach lately, and it's always enriching to watch a good player pilot his list.
Where might I find this stream? If its on twitch I'll need to favorite it!
Also, green devotion did quite well towards the end there? Do you happen to know what that list was or what kinda of devotion list? I also play it and get excited well I see it getting results in local shops.
I playtest my decks quite often against each other and Merfolk still reigns supreme most the time. If I do show up to a tourney I'll most likely bring my best deck even though it still lets me down.
Is 1 chalice of the void even worth running in the SB? Same goes for Spellskite, should I make those both at least 2?
Some of the decks at the shop are:
1 Boggles
2-3 Affinity
1-2 Melira Pod
1 8-rack
1-2 Burn
1 UW/r Control
1-2 Zoo
I would also play a Mono Black deck if only there were a consistent one. Perhaps Mono Black infect or Devotion? I also spied a sweet UB Control one on MTGO using Damnation by OZMANOZGUNEY
Also, grats on 3rd. I also like playing SRGeists. A lot of the times people skip blocking him because they don't want to deal with a 3/2 yet and he can help buy a lot of time chumping. I only play 2 but may go up to 4. I just ordered some Genesis Hydra's before they skyrocket because of Standard. They are quite fun to cast even if they only put 1 thing, but that thing is uncounterable which is amazing. My list is a little weird but I'm mostly testing cards and might go closer to something you are running. I miss casting Genesis Wave since I took them out for 2 Coursers.
Anyway, we need more play-testers to put up results so we can move up to proven! This deck is soooo much fun to play people!
Been running 1 Phantasmal Image since I only have 3 Snapcaster Mages. He acts as a sorcery speed Snap, 5th pyromancer, 5th (flipped) Delver or copying something bigger on the other side. Should I even bother running him? Anyone else run any images?
I also run 2 Kira's main board. I like her because a lot of decks play 1 for 1 removal and she can put a dent in their hand if they need to take her out to regain control of the board. Yes, she doesn't have any advantage vs Abrupt Decay or Pyroclasm.
You can't beat every deck out there but you can do quite well with "Fish to the Face!"
Also, why not just use Essence Warden? No need to splash white just for Soul Warden. Maybe you meant the green version.
I currently run this deck and haven't updated it yet to use chord or the white splash stuff. I'll have to post my current one once I get home to go through it. I just got a playset of Primal Command and Genesis Wave. Only have 2 Primeval Titans though. Also have a mix of Wistful Selkie, BTE, SRG, and Finks.
Edit: Oh, the guy had the nerve to try and counter something that he couldn't. I get it.
So yesterday I piloted Merfolk at a Win-a-Mox event, and won the event! I am now the proud owner of an Unlimited Mox Pearl, my first Mox ever! I was using the same list I used at GP Richmond (with a Hurkyl's Recall replacing a Vedalken Shackles in the sideboard).
The most important thing I learned from the event was that the Kiki Pod matchup is about as good as the Melira Pod matchup (as in, it's pretty good game 1 and game 2/3 the sideboard just makes it better). I had never played against Kiki Pod with Merfolk before, but I suspected that it would be a matchup where I needed to respect the infinite combo more, as their fair game plan gets beaten by the fair Merfolk plan. I think that's the correct way to approach the matchup (so if possible, plan your turn assuming that they have a land drop and an appropriate CMC guy to Pod with). Vapor Snag is your best card game 1, since you want to be applying so much pressure that they can't afford to tutor up a Glen Elendra Archmage, and Vapor Snag breaks up the combo very easily to win on the backswing.
I also played against the Ad Nauseum/Lightning Storm combo. It's a rough matchup, but Chalice of the Void on 0, Swan Song, and Steel Sabotage to counter Lotus Bloom/Pentad Prism work well enough to slow them down. It's the kind of deck where you aggressively mulligan until you can either find a FAST opening (two+ Lords) or sideboard cards.
I'm just excited that I finally got a piece of Power!
Any chance you could give us a match breakdown? Congrats on the big win though! Or perhaps telling us some of you big plays/close matches?
Those spellskites are so amazing that I had to bite the bullet and buy a few for my sideboard. I think they are a good investment anyway. Just wished I got them before they went up.
If you won in the end vs Burn then you must have made the right decision to not block with your creatures. As for the round 4 trick, that is awesome. Good to see the image destroying him with his own creatures. And yes, Merfolk is doing well because most decks aren't packing hate for it. They are too worried about the other top tier decks.
As a side note, is it worth including at least 1 sword of some kind in the SB ? I own a Sword of Light and Shadow and really want to use it. Seems way to slow, but with unblockable creatures it could potentially help in the long matches. My favorite example would be sticking it on a Master of Waves.

You can use Kessig Wolf Run to kill Phantasmal Images. I figured that out while playing vs Merfolk.
This Modern event deck is just fine for someone to enter with.
Bouncing ethereal armor is great for retargeting heroic triggers.

I'd play Grimoire Thief before him. I did look at him but I don't think he would benefit too much because he isn't a folk.

And like what JPo said, more fodder for Thirst for Knowledge. Time to test it!

Just posting my personal list. Anyone given any thought to Annul? It was reprinted in BNG and I could see it useful vs Pod/Affinity/Bogles/Twin.
