I think it's worth it too play both Ulamogs and Kozilek and probably cut artisan possibly. I don't think that an animar deck should be scared of his effect on the curve I can't remember a time i couldn't cast a 10-12 drop by turn 5 or 6 and then combo off. I definitely think it's worth it too play both.

How low do you think Tarmogoyf will go down in price once this set releases? Anyone think it will go down to the $100 mark?.. I'm really hopeful..

When Modern Masters was coming before, June 2013, I remember reading an article where the President of Starcitygames flat-out said they will not be lowing the prices simply because a limited print-run set.

Which just goes back to what I said before, prices of "high value" cards are not a reflection of availability (Tarmagoyfs are everywhere online) or even demand, its an artificial price set by the cartel of card sellers with starcitygames at the helm. They will buy out supply to create an artificial scarcity and set the price to what they think they can get for it. Wizards would have to print the damn thing into the ground to get around it (although they're in bed with SCG so its not like they're trying to get around their practices anyway).

I really don't think SCG is monitoring ebay 24/7 ready to buy up all the Tarmogoyfs that drop below $150 or whatever. That said, it wouldn't surprise me at all to see Goyfs drop by one-third (which is about what they did with MM1?) bringing them close to $100, maybe slightly higher for the original artwork. If that happens, look for Liliana of the Veil to take over as the most expensive modern card here in a few months.

I really doubt that Tarmogoyf will even come close to dropping below $150 for more than a day. I agree with the original post a while back that the price is just perceived value. Starcity will not lower there prices and no one else will lower there prices because pretty uch everyone else bases their prices of scg. I expect prices of all cards in MM15 to remain high and I think the set in general is a waste. Wizards has passed up another opportunity to make the format easier to enter and play. Without a conspiracy like setfor modern its staples will remian high.

I'm fairly certain they'll circumvent the reserve list in some way again in the future if it becomes opportune to do so, or ditch it entirely if the game starts to tank but that is neither here nor there.

However, I think that people that have spent a lot of time playing MTG lose focus in this discussion. Old players are naturally a declining population and this game survives on bringing in new blood continually to keep spending money. Most of them are not, and will not ever be interested in playing legacy and vintage and can't afford to even if they are. Then there is the intimidation factor of having to work with thousands of cards and millions of combinations.

Thus I'd say the potential gain of reprinting in demand reserve list cards is far less than people estimate. The older players present on the forums make the interest seem disproportionate, since they far outnumber kitchen table magic players and all other breeds of casual players online, but not in the real world, where it counts. To them, your underground seas are about as valuable as storm crows.

I wish I could play those formats, but the price is prohibitive and will stay prohibitive, RL or no (modern is prohibitive too, but that's another story altogether). It would take a massive reprinting of many cards, many of which are not even on the RL to drive the prices down... and its never going to happen. Look at how gingerly they treat Modern's money cards, so gingerly that the format continues to creep up in price... do you think they're going to loosen up with Legacy and Vintage ones?

I feel sorry for those who want to play those formats and have the cards but too few people to play with. Sadly planned obsolescence is part of the product and the appearance of Modern tells you everything you need to know about WotC's intentions regarding older formats. They're never going to tell you openly to pack your cards in the closet and forget about them, but if you read between the lines.. that's the message and has been for a while.

I think that older formats, whilst harder to master, are actually easier for new players to get into and enjoy than standard. This is because there are already proven archetypes and the new players need not worry about the millions of combinations of cards as the most effective combinations in most cases have already been found and can be found quite easily on forums such as this. I do think that new players after the initial entrance phase ARE interested in underground seas more than storm crows. You also forget about the most important kitchen table format that would love to have reasonable access to old staples and that is commander. I know lots of people who would love to create a 5 color commander deck but if you want to have a fine tuned 5c list you need all the duals. I agree that Wizards currently is given no haste to take action in reprinting, in high enough quantity, cards for modern, but they have reprinted legacy staples like stifle and misdirection in conspiracy and I hope that trend continues. I think Wizards does realize that not everyone was around 20 years ago and that newer players should at least have a fair sht at getting some older staples. I think it will be a long time coming, but eventually staples will be reprinted and in good quantity.

What do people think about trying something like 2 sygg, river cuthroat. I've seen him pop up in legacy and I think he is a good way to draw cards and keep the pressure applied. I like that he also adds double blue devotion for master of waves and with one lord out doesn't die to lightning bolt. Also so many fetches in modern now could cosi's trickster be a thing? I like the idea of having a lower curve and having more to do one mana than just cursecatcher and aether vial (proactively). Just some thoughts on new ideas not saying any of them have any real competitive potential but I have seen cosi pop up and be good in some legacy fish decks and I think with alot of the new gifts ungiven decks as well it could be great.

I think that anyone who believes that narset is a functional replacement for Jace the mindsculptor is really just jumping on the hype train. Jace brainstorms and narset could easily whiff in a deck that runs a lot of lands. Also I want to point out how powerful a brainstorm effect is in a format with fetchlands. Narset doesn't actually protect herself like jace does although her loyalty is quite high. Her ultimate will not win you the game and jace's will. I don't think jace is too powerful in modern because I think that his loyalty being at three makes him extremely fair. I don't think that splinter twin would play him and if they did it would be 1-2 copies but still I think he would just slow them down. Scapeshift would probably play 2-4 but I don't think it would make their game all that more impressive. Overall I think it would just really help control which is pretty much non-existent in the format.

You just showed it under the assumption that there are only 300.000 duals out there. How did you get to that number? As far as i know, its about 300.000 of EACH dualland out there, with a maximum of 345.000 printed of each printed, and asuming about 45.000 got destroyed over the years.

There are always more being "destroyed" every year more and more dual lands will become unplayable and at some point there just won't be enough left to service any sizeable market. Using your numbers there would be enough playsets of each dual lands for 75,000 players. Let's say 500,000 people play legacy worldwide that's about 15% of players that there are enough play-sets for. That will continue to decline as more are destroyed and lost each year.

Hi my name is Frodo and my addiction to deckbuilding is strong. I have over 100 decks built on cockatrice and have built many in real life.

Here's a few that I have made over the past 2-3 years:
Ezuri, renegade leader - the first :')
Sharuum, the hegemon - retired - I don't play combo anymore due to it not getting accepted well in my current meta
Oloro, ageless ascetic - replacement for the above
    Sisters of stone death
    Krenko, mob boss
    gisella
    xiahou dun, the one-eyed
    chainer, dementia master
xenagos, god of revels - my most consistent
    barrin, master wizard
azami, lady of scrolls - retired
    grand arbiter, augustin - retired
    thraximundar
animar, soul of elements - my favorite
    maelstrom wanderer
    rubinia soulsinger
    the mimeoplasm
    vela, the night clad
    grimgrin
    rith, the awakener

Hey guys I'm looking on some opinions on whether I should hold or trade now. The thing shtat I have as trade fodder - Foil misty rainforest, Foil polluted delta KTK, foil Windswept heath, playsets of each shock, playests of all the fetchlands, ulamog, playset omniscience, 2 griselbrands - things I need to trade for playset of force of wills, 4 foil aether vials, 4 foil lord of atlantis, 3 foil silvergill adept, 3 foil mutavault, 4 foil merrow reejery, foil master of waves, playset foil spreading seas, 3 foil master of the pearl tridents.

I think I should probably hold the KTK fetches and shocks for a while, but I'm worried about some of the stuff I need going up in value. Thoughts?

I'd love to see some camera games of mono-U Merfolk vs Affinity (seasoned and expert level players only) and perhaps some type of tutorial on how to play against it.

If you ask any Fish player I know these 2-0 wins are so unlikely and appear to be terribly bad luck on behalf of the opponent and amazing christmas land good luck on the Fish players behalf. As far as I can tell this matchup is at least 80-20 Affinity - please prove me wrong with a detailed and comprehensive response.

Furthermore, in support of what I'm saying, professional magic players took U/w merfolk to the pro tour and I think they did this for one reason and one reason alone - to have a fighting chance against affinity which was/is anticipated to be heavy in the post-TC ban era. I'd love to believe that mono-U merfolk has game against affinity - because playing white does for sure suck..

We have a lot of cards that are strong against affinity. Main deck spell pierce(to stop cranial plating) and vapor snag are great and spreading seas stops any sort of nexus action. If they don't have a flier to pump and we manage to land a master of waves well good luck to them trying to get through. Post board things only get better with hurkyl's recall chalice on two is game over for affinity. There are other hate cards that I'm probably not including here this is just off of the top of my head but it isn't an 80-20 match-up in their favour that's for sure. I rarely go 0-2 against affinity I usually go 2-1 or 2-0. The only deck that I'm worried about is abzan as it is one of the top decks atm and is probably one of our worst matchups.

Xenaogs, god of revels is by far the best gruul commander ever. Run global trample effects and then run the fattest creatures you can find. It is also one of the cheapest decks to put together.

Her are some of my predictions for MM2
    aven mindcensor
    spellskite
    cryptic command
    aether vial
    ensnaring bridge
    remand
    tarmogoyf
    noble hierarch
    scapeshift
    goryo's vengeance
    through the breach
    splinter twin
    grove of the burnwillows
    karn liberated
    all the filter lands
    horizon canopy
    vendilion clique
and many more but those are the ones that come right to my mind as I'm writing this. I think that these are some of the cards that either pose a barrier to really play whatever deck you want OR their current price does not reflect their power level in the format.

I've seen Jace in a few sideboards before, but i haven't seen it much lately.

Now that Cruise is gone though the meta is gonna shake up a bit. No more worrying about Red Elemental Blast being everywhere, but discard is a thing again, so those Leylines become good again.

Really though, this deck is insane. Coming from playing storm combo for so long, it's crazy to play a combo deck where the combo is soooo eeaasy to set up, and is just so resilient and powerful. As huge of a storm fan as i am, i see myself playing mono U Omnitell for a good while unless something drastic happens in Legacy. My win ratio is just ridiculous. I feel like you just win against anything that isn't blue, and even there you have a great chance.

Good to know, I come from playing manaless dredge and there are some interactions that I'm trying to get used to in this deck. I was looking at your list above and was wondering if you thought about a MD intuition? and if 3 spell pierce has worked well or if they should be more cantrips or even something like daze? Also I was wondering what your SB plan is for some of the main decks that you see. Since you used to play storm what is a good strategy for this deck to take against a storm deck? Thanks!

So scapeshift lost DTT which I think helps our matchup against them and the format will be a much fairer one now so I think that we have an increase in our respective win %'s against most decks.
