I just picked this deck up on MTGO because I'm a sucker for Simic colors and and aggro + disruption game plan. Taking the initial 75 that beast_with_2_backs 5-0'd with (with some changes to the sideboard) through a Friendly league to get a feel for the play lines before I make any changes and take it into a Competitive league.
Would be interested to know if anyone has done any recent testing.
Hey all, I play exclusively on MTGO and there is a decent amount of burn. What are you guys putting in the board for burn? I have 2 Spellskites and I'm thinking maybe either Finks or Baloth?
Hey guys, I've been reading through this thread and thinking about making the move into Devotion.
My question is regarding finishers. It seems Tooth and Nail is the majority favorite as far as competitive finishers go. I have seen some Genesis Wave decks as well. I'm just wondering if there was a reason/meta where one finisher would be chosen over another.
@Grapefruit21 : Glad to hear you did well. Anyways you could share your list? I'm tweaking a non-lili list as well and just looking at every different list I can find. Thanks
@StaleCookie if you don't have Lili's I think you need to not build like Jund or Junk and embrace what mardu can bring that those can't. You're going to have to play a slower game as you don't have Goyf to beat down and you don't have lili to lock it up. So you need to be able to grind out games. I like Gideon a lot, but he doesn't grind. I don't like Brimaz in the first place, and especially now as he doesn't grind and he doesn't matchup well against the Eldrazi. Crackling Doom I really like but just tossing it in as a one of doesn't do a ton for me. I would look at focusing the deck around a theme like Cody_X suggested. My choice would be to focus on being the late game go with a controlling package, jam all the disruption play some of Chandra, Pyromaster, Outpost Siege, or Painful Truths to get up on cards. And pick a finisher of your choice, Resto/Kiki, Goblin Dark Dwellers, Olivia and, Kalitas are all viable and have pros and cons. Normally I'm a big advocate of going full tokens with Mentor and Young Pyro, but I don't think this is their moment. So to tweak the PT list without Lili's I'd cut the Abbots too and go something like -6 from those, -2 +2 Olivia, +2 Painful Truths, + 2 Dismember.
Thank you very much for the detailed information! Based on the changes you recommend should i look for other sources of life gain? 4x Confidant (with more 3 and 4 drops than before) and 2x Painful Truths seems rather, well painful lol. Maybe I'm overestimating the damage I will take.
Hey, love the list from the PT but sadly I don't have Lilis.
Right now I'm running the same list but -3x Lili, -1x Ajani, +1 Gideon, +1 Sorin, +1 Brimaz, +1 Crackling Doom (and mana adjust accordingly)
What is the best shell without Lili? Should I keep the above midrange list or swap to more tokens/anthems (young peezy, bitterblossom instead of BoB, etc.)?
If you're not running Bring to Light then you don't need all 4 Misties. Many older lists ran two and operated just fine with Hinterland Harbor and Flooded Grove.
Unfortunately, with Bring to Light, it's important to be able to get your Watery Grave.
Would you recommend going with an original Scapeshift version until I can get Mistys?
Additionally is the jury still out on Bring to Light or is it considered the definitely superior version of the deck?
Hey all, I'm thinking about moving to Scapeshift and have been researching it for a while now, especially the bring to light versions.
I can currently get all the pieces except Misty Rainforest. While I work on those is the deck worth playing with just KTK fetches? I have or can get most KTK fetches easily.
I would love a mana base suggestion (splashing white for BTL) if anyone is able to.
Hey guys, recent convert from UWr control and loving the deck. This deck really has the "I turned the corner" feel that I love.
Anyways, I have been reading pages upon pages of this thread, great information. The shell seems solid and it looks like there is a lot of discussion over the 2x Flex Spots.
Can you guys help me out with what is commonly used in those spots? From reading this thread I've noticed the following (let me know what I'm missing):
-Shadow of Doubt
-Runed Halo
-Condemn
-Hallowed Moonlight
-Snapcaster number 3, 4
-Additional main board finisher (like Gideon Jura)
Fantastic write-up. Thank you very much for the info. I'll stick with the 4x Colonnades and 1x Gideon for now but definitely will look to test the extra win-con in the future as I get more comfortable with customizing the deck.
Not to bring budget into this too much but I currently have 1x Creeping Tar Pit ... While I get the second one should I substitute in something like a Lavaclaw for the manland? Temple of deceit since its a tapped land anyways? Or just add another shock or check or something? Thanks!

Right now I'm running 4x Snapcaster, 4x Colonnade, and 1x Gideon Jura as cards that can actually attack my opponent.
Do you guys find that is enough? Or would you advise adding 1x More "win con"?
Thanks
