I don't like it very much in an aggressive meta and Inquisition of Kozilek, the preferred disruption to maindeck, doesn't even hit the key cards in Jeskai/UW. I play a very similar list and I think it's pretty functional, most of the MU are 50/50 and if the pilot is experienced enough it is not so difficult to win those games. However nice videos ParadoxOmega, very happy to see Grixis Delver on screen!
Quote from skeeler87 »Hey All!
Gonna be playing Grixis Delver at a pptq this weekend. I think this is the list I'm going to play but if anyone has any suggestions I'd greatly appreciate it!
Similar to what Jeff Hoogland has been playing except for the land. I'm not running Scalding Tarns due to budget but I'm also running more basics. I'm expecting to run into a lot of Field of Ruin and Path to Exile. Also I feel like being able to fetch tons of basics might help in shoring up some of the more painful MU's like Humans and Spirits. On that note, does anyone have any pointers on the Spirits MU? Been annihilated a few times by it recently. Any input is appreciated!
Personally I don't like too much Jeff's list, too many Brutality and Kolaghan and very few spot removal and counters are not the best IMHO. Besides this I play with an identical land base (for budget reason) and even if it's not the best configuration it saved me a lot of life and expecially against Burn is very important.
However Good Luck and I hope you'll enjoy playing this deck at the pptq! -

I've uploaded the stream VOD to YouTube. The forums are acting up a bit, so I'll post the raw link below:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbHEo6ollBw
A subscribe on YouTube and/or a follow on Twitch (at twitch.tv/olagziel) would help a lot if you enjoyed the videos! I've been rocking about the same 75 for the past month or so and it never fails me. This league had a lot of matches against Bant Spirits (three of the five), so if you want to get a bit of understanding on that match-up, I highly recommend watching. Anyways, enjoy and let me know if you have any thoughts.
Oh its you olagziel, nice to see you in the forums as well
Will definitely watch the VOD. I will also spread the word in my Midrange Discord channel (btw you and all are welcome to join if you want. the link is in the primer and here as well: https://discord.gg/guSNj7s) -

koreandog posted a message on Spellslinger Starter KitHow did you stumble onto Magic? (I started playing during Onslaught when a friend showed me Magic at the college lunch room while I was playing Yu-gi-oh. I bought a Yu-gi-oh deck from Target.) Most people learn Magic from other friends or people around them. But how do you get the MTG product out there for FRESH new people, who don't have friends who play MTG? For a new player that has never been to a local gaming store, how do they play Magic? Where will they find product? How are they able to play the game out of the box with a friend for a low price.Posted in: The Rumor Mill
Welcome decks are for stores to get new players hooked to the game. If your game store is just giving 4 or 5 of them away to a single player, then they are doing it wrong. They are to be played with and used for teaching new players.
How would you describe a "bad" product? One that does not have financial value? One that does not appeal to you? One that does not do what it was intended to do?
(I personally think Planeswalker decks are bad because a) it provides nothing of financial value for the person and b) it does not help a player to become a better player by giving them a subpar deck that will get "rekt" by a FNM level deck.)
They use to have beginner decks like these in the past, with a preconstructed way of playing the game to allow players to learn the basic mechanics. It's a necessary product to have for new players. Remember, this is for new players who don't know where to go to by mtg products, other than at Wal-Mart or Target. -

No. Is it meant for us established players that post about it online? No. There are products out there that aren't meant for everyone, but it doesn't mean that they are bad.
The amount of product for presumed newbie players is staggering.
Welcome decks are free and full fill the purpose of teaching the basics.
For anything else, you can just dive into booster packs right away or build a deck.
This product is a waste of cardboard as it simply does not provide anything that the welcome decks dont do for free.
The cards in the packs are bad, literally the only card worth anything is Ghalta, and even that is a stretch (in EU the cards just barely 3€ and there are plenty of promo versions, way more than people that would build a deck with the card).
----
Anyway, it could be worse, but just because it could be worse, this product does not win any prices and its simply a "bad" product for all intents and purpose.
Any newbie player is much better served simply getting welcome decks, even slamming together a bunch of welcome decks (like 4 of the same color) will build for a much better deck for a newbie, and thats totally free, 0$, cant beat that. -

koreandog posted a message on Spellslinger Starter KitGhalta, Primal Hunger is currently around the 7 dollar amount and going down, but sees play in Standard. Reclamation Sage is a multi-format card that shows up in Modern and EDH. Demanding Dragon is a speculative target to replace Glorybringer in possible red decks after rotation. Llanowar Elves sees play in Elves decks in multiple formats (Standard, Modern, Legacy). Ravenous Chupacabra is a solid creature kill spell that has seen some play in Standard.Posted in: The Rumor Mill
Even though these cards aren't 30+ dollar cards, they are cards that see play and you could possible trade to players for subpar rares or other commons and uncommons. They are cards that see play and are tradable
This is a product that has been lacking in paper magic for quite awhile. A pre-constructed deck that can introduce players to the game and have a guide to help players learn the game by themselves. They have this on MTG Arena and Pokemon online. It's not the ideal way to learn to play, but it's an option for those who want to learn with a friend who also doesn't know how to play.
Imagine that you and a friend are new to MTG and you so happen to stumble into a local game store. The amount of products are large and plentiful for new players that they don't know what they are looking for. Where do you start?
-Does the employee tell you to wait for open house to learn?
-Does the employee tell you to buy a Commander pre-constructed deck?
-Does the employee give you a free welcome deck?
-Does the employee try to sell you the Planeswalker decks?
-Is the employee even able to tell you how to play Magic?
All of these answers are possible. This product can be an on ramp for new players to learn. Is this a product for everyone? No. Is it meant for us established players that post about it online? No. There are products out there that aren't meant for everyone, but it doesn't mean that they are bad. -

Fincown posted a message on Azorius Titan/Emeria ControlHonestly I'm glad you made changes, after all, innovation breed creativity. A lot of players, myself included, are guilty of complacency and getting stuck in one line of thinking. You brought a fresh perspective and a lot of your ideas have merit. I particularly like the additional Settle the Wreckage over Tormods Crypt and Relic of Projenitus in the sideboard. Mainly because the decks we need graveyard hate for, i.e. Dredge, Hollow One, Living End, fold to settle as well, which will in turn grant us more sideboard slots for things like Disenchant. Plus the additional wrath is sorely needed in aggressive mathcups too. As for the main, I feel like 25 lands is probably correct, considering we want to get to eight consistently (seven plains + Emeria, the Sky Ruin. That and having five land destruction spells between Field or Ruin and Ghost Quarter is important when playing against Tron. As for misplays, I probably shouldn't have called them that, because you didn't punt you just made slightly different decisions than I would have in that situation.Posted in: Control
For instance, against D&T, what I would have done differently is, while anticipating with Court Hussar, grab Lone Missionary instead of the second Supreme Verdict. Lone Missionary is essentially a removal spell as it blocks and trades with the majority of your opponents deck. It also allows you to be proactive with all your mana by wrathing on six and playing it in the same turn. It can be recurred by Sun Titan which would lend you a kind of toolbox effect between recurring Court Hussar for card draw or Lone Missionary for life gain depending on the situation. I also remember you grabbing a Wall of Omens instead of Detention Sphere too, and I believe that may be considered a mistake, while Wall of Omens did improve your board state, you were already ahead. Detention Sphere is a catch all, and important because there was only two in your deck. When you have turned the corner, it's good to ask yourself how do I lose from this position, in that case with a Sun Titan and any Emeria, the Sky Ruin you draw being active the way you lose that game is to graveyard hate followed by bad draws.
I also think that in your last game of your Soul Sisters matchup you got a little hasty. Because they didn't scoop you have to assume they have instant speed interaction. Likely have either Path to Exile, Ghostway or Restoration Angel based on what you had seen. If you Detention Sphere the Rest in Peace and attack with Lone Missionary it will likely die in combat and you will be able to grind your opponent by reanimating it with Emeria, the Sky Ruin and presenting lethal every turn following, this line also improves any future creatures that you draw into. Of course this didn't actually matter because you had a Settle the Wreckage but remember that you can be patient with this deck, we will win the long game.
Those three examples are very nitpicky and hindsight is 20/20 but like I said before, you piloted the deck extremely well! One last piece of advice I want to give you is that when playing against Flagstones of Trokir if you Spreading Seas it and then destroy it with Field of Ruin or Ghost Quarter the LtB ability will not trigger. Much like in the Ponza matchup when they have a Blood Moon and Flagstone of Trokir either legend rules itself or is Stone Rain'd they don't search. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

For those interested in my card choices as compared to my previous videos, I have cut Manamorphose because of Thalia, Guardian of Thraben and Humans isn't going anywhere. It feels like a liability to me. Second, I have trimmed Hazoret the Fervent from the SB in favor of 2 Goblin Rabblemaster. I know many people have said they really like Rabblemaster as a clock and that 3cmc > 4cmc, so I'm giving it a try. This was my first match with it, but I will say that I liked it when I drew it.
If you wanna see more Mardu Pyro videos, look around the videos on my channel. I've got plenty more, just haven't had the time to record a lot recently (because university). Thanks!

Cleansing Nova is very interesting and may be worth it over the 3rd Stony Silence or the 1st Settle the Wreckage. Our sweepers having utility is very useful. I may try it out next league.
I just finished up another competitive league on MTGO (off camera, sorry!). Deck performed as I expected it to. I went 3-2, losing to KCI (0-2) and Storm (0-2), while beating Living End (2-0), UW Miracles (2-1), and Humans (2-0). I used the same list as in my latest video.
Some noteworthy things that I picked up along the way:
1) Mulligan into your hate cards for KCI and Storm. I would keep a hand with just countermagic vs. Storm, but I would not keep a hand with just countermagic (no Stony Silence or Damping Sphere) against KCI. I kept a 7, on the play, with double counterspell and still lost. We need to play our hate cards and protect them with counters, imo.
2) Diverse sweepers were great against Humans. My opponent blind named Supreme Verdict with Meddling Mage, only to get hit by Wrath of God the following turn. Humans definitely feels like a good match-up when you avoid a heavy Kitesail Freebooter draw. I 2-0'd them this time around.
3) Teferi, Hero of Dominaria was a beating out of UW Miracles, winning them game 1. They actually resolved it in both game 2 and game 3, but I played such a heavy mana denial game that they never had more than 1 white mana available. This allowed me to go wide and not be afraid of sweepers while I built a decent board filled with Flickerwisp, Court Hussar and Gideon of the Trials which allowed me to pressure Teferi, Hero of Dominaria and eventually clear it. Detention Sphere was the clearer answer in g3, but it's nice to know the deck can go wide as necessary when you don't have the clean answer. The 3 Negate and 2 Disdainful Stroke were also insane, allowing me to fight over Cryptic Command and more Teferi, Hero of Dominaria with success.
4) Living End was a surprisingly decent match-up. The fact that we naturally have lots of sweepers and also have creatures in the graveyard regularly meant I was never just dead. There are times when they can get you with an instant speed wrath, no doubt, but my opponent wasn't sure on my exact 75 and played around countermagic. This allowed me to consistently sweep up the board and build towards Sun Titan and Emeria, the Sky Ruin. I won this 2-0 as well.
Things that are always on my mind but I haven't pulled the trigger yet:
1) The 3rd Detention Sphere somewhere in the 75.
2) Experimenting with Cleansing Nova.
Otherwise, the deck felt very smooth and it is able to beat the decks it is designed to beat and still has game post-board against the more troublesome match-ups.

After that, I did some off-camera testing and ran it through a Modern Competitive League. After going 3-2, I tuned the list the way I thought would best handle the MTGO meta. Match 1 vs. Grixis Bridgevine (2-1):
Interesting brew with Stitcher's Supplier and other 1-mana creatures that enable looting, paired with Bridge from Below and Greater Gargadon to generate a bunch of zombies, with Gravecrawler to keep the train going and Vengevine to bring it all together. G1 was interesting as I navigated a match-up I'd never played or even heard of, but gumming up the ground with creatures, staying alive, and winning with Sun Titan is what we do best. G2 they had a similar draw but our draw did not seem to line up well against their aggressive start. G3, we do what we do best and grind through the game as we generate value. Not having GY hate wasn't that bad here, as we are generally well positioned against creature-based GY strategies (Dredge, Hollow One, Mardu Pyro, this).
Match 2 vs. Mono-U Tron (2-0):
I was worried when I saw the Tron lands, but I actually don't think Mono-U Tron is as good against us because they don't have as many threats. G1 and G2 were both a grind to keep them off Tron, but eventually I was able to get Emeria going while resolving multiple Sun Titans and even fought through a resolved Ugin, the Spirit Dragon in G2.
Match 3 vs. Affinity (0-2):
A match-up I actually enjoy seeing, but similar to how I lost to Humans last week, we just didn't see the cards we needed to in G1. A mainboard Karn, Scion of Urza also applied tons of pressure. G2 they had a slow start, but our hand did not come together even with multiple sweeper effects. Another Karn came down this game too, as well as an The Antiquities War to find gas and apply pressure.
Match 4 vs. RB Hollow One (2-0):
Creature-based decks are good MUs, and this one is no exception. We were able to cobble up sweepers at the right time and close the door with a Sun Titan G1. G2 they never got off to a strong start, and multiple Flickerwisp blinking Spreading Seas two or three turns in a row beat them down as they tried to loot through their deck to find threats.
Match 5 vs. Mono-Red Prison (2-0):
Us being a non-linear deck with a smooth manabase filled with basic lands, this match-up did not go well for our opponent. There were moments where Blood Moon would have been strong, but our opponent mostly played a couple Chalice of the Void and Goblin Rabblemaster and we line up very well against those cards. Flickerwisp was able to reset a Chalice on 2 into a Chalice on 0, which unlocked our hand in G2 and allowed us to turn our cantrips into actual cards. This was a pretty cool interaction I never thought about before this match.
Final Record: 4-1
Really enjoyed this configuration of the deck. I'm not convinced we actually need cards like Rest in Peace or Remorseful Cleric at all. I think I misplayed a couple times against Affinity, but I'm not sure exactly how. I would have to go back and watch that game myself.

I ran the above list through a Modern Competitive League, finishing 3-2. The wins were vs. RG Ponza (2-0), GW Elves (2-0), and Burn (2-1). The losses were vs. Tron (0-2) and Humans (0-2).
The Tron (0-2) match-up, even post-board, is pretty rough. We can take them off their lands all we want, but it all comes down to stopping them from using Oblivion Stone (either with Negate, Detention Sphere, or Stony Silence) while establishing a reasonable clock all the while taking them off mana. It's really tough, not sure if we can reasonably configure our SB better for this, though. We already have a lot. Both of the matches I lost I was able to keep them off Tron. I actually think Stony Silence is considerably strong in our build vs. Tron specifically, enough that I may want the 3rd in the SB. Again, keeping them off Oblivion Stone seems incredibly significant here. If we keep them off that card, and go wide enough, cards like Wurmcoil Engine eat a Path to Exile and Karn Liberated can't handle our board.
Humans (0-2) seems like a winnable match-up, but the match-up can be difficult depending on their draw, and depending on whether or not we're on the play or draw. Spoiler alert: being on the draw is really rough. This is a match-up where I really want the 4th sweeper mainboard, because having multiples in hand is actively good against Kitesail Freebooter. This begs the question if we should play Day of Judgment to make Meddling Mage worse, or just do a 2/2 split with Supreme Verdict and Wrath of God. Both of the games I lost were due to being on the back-end of 2-3 Kitesail Freebooter, ripping all our relevant interaction as large Champion of the Parish beat me down.
RG Ponza (2-0) was actually an intense grind. Spreading Seas on their Utopia Sprawl lands feels like the key to winning this match, as well as aggressively using Spreading Seas on our lands to play around Blood Moon. This MU, similar to Tron, can play out very differently depending on play/draw. I like to lead with fetchland on T1 to both play around Blood Moon and Stone Rain-type effects.
GW Elves (2-0) was a grind. The new 2cmc elf-lord that gets more elf-lords was pretty good as we were grinding, but ultimately just saving Path to Exile for their key creatures while developing your board and mana is the best way to win. This match can go either way, but we do have the tools. Settle the Wreckage as an extra wrath was great out of the SB and was key in the fact that it beat Selfless Spirit.
Burn (2-1) seems like it just comes down to how many Lone Missionary you draw. Game 1 I drew none and lost to a flurry of burn spells. Game 2 I drew 2 with countermagic and removal. Game 3 the same, except I even got to Flickerwisp them a bit. All-in-all, very winnable match-up, but seems to revolve around drawing key elements. On the play, Spreading Seas is also great. On the draw, I tend to cut some number of them as it can be too little too late.
Overall, the changes I'm looking to make are as follows:
Mainboard:
-1 Jace, the Mind Sculptor
+1 Day of Judgment
Reasoning: We grind a lot as it is. While Jace, the Mind Sculptor can be quite synergistic with what we're doing, he's often just too much and win-more. He was quite good against a Stormbreath Dragon against RG Ponza, but he's just not necessary. Day of Judgment serves as the 4th sweeper and strains the Humans deck's ability to lock us out with Meddling Mage.
Sideboard:
-1 Celestial Purge
+1 Stony Silence
Reasoning: While it's nice to have that insurance against Blood Moon and other troublesome black permanents, it just doesn't pull enough weight because those MUs tend to be already pretty decent ones (Mardu Pyro, Death's Shadow, Ponza, Jund). Stony Silence seems to be really important against the Tron menace, as well as the plethora of Affinity and KCI decks online.
Anyways, those are my thoughts. Will record and upload some more gameplay on Monday.

If you wish, you can watch the matches below:
Eldrazi Stompy and Taxes (Deck Tech + Matches)
I recorded 5 matches total. The match-ups were: Tron, Storm, Grixis Reveler, Amulet Titan, Grixis Death's Shadow. If you only care about watching a specific match-up, you can look in the description of the video to jump straight to it. If you have any questions/criticisms/suggestions, I'd love to hear them! Deck is great, thanks SpiderSpace for bringing some awareness to it.

This isn't the first time I've recorded with it, so if you're interested in more content, you can check out my channel for many more videos. I can't claim to be anything special when it comes to piloting the deck, but if you're new to the deck and want to see someone else run through a bunch of matches and trying different things, then my videos may be helpful.
For those who are wondering if Liliana of the Veil is worth it, after testing 8 or so matches with her in the main, she has overperformed. I don't think I'm playing less than 1 of her moving forward, but I really have been enjoying her as a 2-of. I'm also not too keen on the basic Plains, but can understand why some run it. Lastly, I'm on 0 Manamorphose, but am interested in starting to experiment with 1 in the maindeck. Anyways, if you watch the videos, I appreciate it! Cheers
