Nom,nom,nom.
Also, why do you care what other people like?

Most of the reaction to the flavor at the time was general confusion and fear that Magic's creative was dead. Even the Japanese playerbase was confused. It doesn't really help that the Spirits looked like they were copy-pasted off a 14th century yokai compendium and covered in eyes to look different.Quote from Spaz350 »Quote from 5colors »Remember when Urza built a robot, a space ship and used mechas to fight the borg? Totally fantasy with no Sci-fi elements.
Quote from Melkor »that is some of the fugliest art I have seen. I just don't get Wizards
'Oh, you liked Kamigawa block, set in feudal Japan, with all of the ancient feeling and traditional stuff? Did you like the old school samurai and a world where science had no power because of nature spirits? Well you are going to LOVE this new Kamigawa, looking more stylized and over the top advanced than when Tokyo laid it on really thick for the Olympics!'
Thats the point, Kamigawa flavor wasn't well liked by most players. For years on Maro's tumblr there was a debate about if they should re-flavor Kamigawa or have a brand new Japanese inspired world and now we are seeing the results.
EDIT: Anyways I'm gonna wait and see how it looks when we see the full set, speaking of which happy anniversary to last year when people where having melt downs thinking snow wasn't in Kaldheim due to see barley any of set.
Maybe I'm off base here, but I always was under the impression that people loved Kamigawa's flavor, but it suffered because the actual set itself was a letdown, being mostly weak and sandwiched between two massively powerful/popular blocks in Mirrodin and Ravnica. Like, the lore was and setting was fantastic, but the actual cards and mechanics were not well-liked at all.

Quote from Flamebuster »Quote from "Kasmina"s Dirty Laundry" »Kasmina is the leader of an ancient, secret order of Planeswalkers, a shadowy cabal with mysterious aims. Her larger goals are unknown, but her recent obsession is recruitment. Her preferred method is to identify what she calls "embers", non-ignited Planeswalkers. She helps these mages to discover their potential, even if it means causing trauma to ignite their spark, and then indoctrinates them in the ways of her order. She is preparing for a looming conflict that dwarfs the War of the Spark.
The emphasized part has piqued my interest. Given how much they botched the Gatewatch arc I think anything else is plausible at this point. So long as it doesn't involve big burly monsters like Eldrazi or a mad dragon warlord thing, I'll be exceptionally excited.

Quote from Xcric »What reason is there for her to hide her identity? Is she known on this plane? For being a multiverse everyone sure does know everyone else.
Easily couldve been any other walker whose storyline HASNT been concluded.
But sex sells.

Also people hated the flavor of Kamigawa. Some people loved it, but since most people didn't understand it Wizards said they would never return. Because of overly vocal fans of Kamigawa they now decided to return with some major tweaks. So you overly vocal fans better not complain about the aesthetics because IMO we would have been better off never returning to Kamigawa. This is your doing!

You know that changeling is in the set, right?
This is a pretty strong 2 drop for limited. Limited is what determines rarity, not constructed.
Also, this could be good in constructed.

When they did Theros, they knew that there was a lot of general knowledge about Greek mythology. Enough to do everything top-down. Films like Troy, 300, Clash of the Titans, Percy Jackson and even the Disney Hercules movie did a lot to give the average person knowledge of greek mythology.
But when they did Amonkhet, they realized that there is very little general knowledge about Egyptian mythology (pretty much nothing beyond mummies and pyramids). So they had to add more to it.
Same thing here. Norse mythology is beloved by a small subset of people. Most people don't know anything more than Thor, Odin, Loki and Mjolnir. A lot of people know of the World Tree, but even then it is not a lot. I am sure that they felt they needed another hook to get players into it. Phyrexians make sense.

He talks about what he knows, which is always the 4 main sets every year. He did talk about Jumpstart which was interesting. He rarely works on supplemental sets and there is not much to talk about when they are mostly reprints.
I think that Paul Cheon's team probably got too aggressive this year. they pushed cards way too much. It was a new team so I guess they need to be reigned in a bit. Hopefully the balance issues will start going down with the rotation.
I liked what Mark said about Companion - it was a bad idea for Set Design to design this mechanic. It was too hard to balance. They should have realized this however and removed it from the set.

Here are some basic structural rules:
1. 90 card pool, though I have seen people do 120 cards for more depth
2. Multiple builds need to be supported, across all 5 colors
3. The skill-testing aspect of Duplicate sealed isn't to make the best deck with the pool, but to figure out what kinds of decks others can make with the pool and to build a deck that does well against those strategies. For example, if the theme of the pool is ramp into big creatures, prioritize small efficient creatures and removal spells.
I have had a lot of trouble finding any recommendations for making such a 'cube'. I have seen articles about how specific duplicate sealed builds were put together, and the though process, but I have not found anything for someone building from scratch.
My thoughts, which I suppose are debatable:
4) The different archetypes need to overlap significantly
5) There should not be any auto-include cards
My questions:
A) Does anyone have experience building something like this?
B) How many archetypes would be needed?
C) How would you balance the colors? I don't want to just make 5 monocolor strategies and have people mix and match. I want a lot of multicolor too. But I can't exactly put enough for 10 guilds in a 90 card pool.
Thanks!
