This is absurd. Wizard of the Coast has two goals; To make money for their investors and employees and to protect their brand. What Zack did was reprehensible and unforgivable. The fact that many in our society seem so willing to forgive these actions, wether having "paid his debt" through the justice system or not, is concerning to say the least. I applaud Wizards of the Coast for taking a stand and saying," We do not want to have anything to do with you."
His participation lowers the quality of the Wizards product. Wizards needs young people to come into the game and having a convicted sex offender involved in the game, in any capacity, prohibits that. Drew Levine, though I do not agree with the way he went about it, brought up a valid concern for the community. Every violent criminal should be banned from this game. Wizards would make the competitive environment safer for all. It does not seem like it would be overly complicated to cross reference the convicted sex offender list with registered DCI numbers (but that may just be my ignorance on the topic.)
Non violent criminals, on the other hand, fall into a different category as far as I am concerned. I have some opinions here but this isnt the place. All I can say is I want Magic to be safe hobby for my children to participate in in a few years and Wizards should do everything within their rights to ensure this.
So we go back to a format where 4 dark Confidant, 4 Liliana of the Veil, and 4 Tarmogoyf are the defining cards? This is where it is heading. Heck, Affinity was splashing Goyf in some instances. This is just frustrating. Frustrating for the loss many have just taken on their collections and hard work over time. Frustrating because accessing the format just became more difficult. Just frustrating. But hey, Wizards makes their money off of Standard and Limited and everything is perfect there!!!
What about those stores that don't sell packs unless you draft? What about those stores that jack the price up due to limited print run. I would be extremely surprised to find packs for $10. Wizards ... Disappointing. Very disappointing.
My local game store refused to sell modern masters by the pack. They would only sell for drafts. This is going to be the same, with a higher price. Rediculous. Simply rediculous.
