With all the permanents you run, I've seen Nykthos be very effective in these decks. Tempt with Discovery is a ramp spell that can really get there on combo-turn, especially if you grab Cradle or under the right circumstances Nykthos.
nykthos is awful in this deck. we run 3 colors and dont really use colorless mana. i cannot see nykthos netting anymana that i would want those other two lands tap for
Thanks for your input! I guess what I meant with the control is focused mainly on keeping Animar safe or getting rid of threats, but there is a lot of versatility with my "control". As it stands I tend to go off quite easily with my tutor-into-play cards like Tooth and Nail or Chord of Calling. Swinging voltron style definitely wins me games but just as often i will get half my library out in one turn or one of the Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker pairings, and half the time i am doing that is on the other players turn with my flash granting cards and infinite mana with Palinchron or Earthcraft + Shrieking Drake.
i guess but using all that mana to try to keep him safe with enchantments and counterspells , when you can be casting more creatures and building your board to just combo out that turn. you dont always need to protect him with cute tricks, you can win the game other way. i would add maelstrom wanderer . peregrine drake time spiral
um well animar isnt a control deck, its a combo/voltron-esqe deck. you have a lot of creatures that dont really have synergy with animar, your creature count is low, a lot of your spells are gonna be hard to cast with all these double colors. when you build animar think of the death and taxes that combos.
title pretty much says it all, was just wondering if any of you guys are in southern california playing competitive multiplayer edh. im looking for a place to play
Absolutely not, I've built my animar to withstand cutthroat metas, but that being said I do sometimes play the deck the slower route with friends who have friendlier decks so I don't just blow them out of the water. ( not combing out fast and restrict to 1 threat every couple turns. )
Sounds like you are going the glass cannon 1v1 route and removing utility which I don't think is the right choice in multiplayer, but if you can catch them off card being to fast then it might work
Yeah that's been common with reanimator in some areas. Unless people can have answers to a tuned deck they will often just get stomped out early considering how fast decks like these can be.
I kid you not, I took this deck to an edh "tournament" a while ago. Each of my rounds lasted less than 10 minutes, easiest 80 dollars I've made but man were people sore. Haven't been back there since. =/
