Hey Ray, I love what you have been doing with the place. I think you and the crew here have finally pieced together a solid build that can close within a reasonable amount of time. Here is what I have been trying out on MTGO.

EotGR and Harsh Mentor are the key cards the deck was missing post Legion Warboss's release - for me at least. See, if we fail to lock AND stick an early active threat we typically loose as the game progresses. And, if one of those pieces is absent or is most likely removed we also loose. But, with a static threat our opponent's job just got a lot harder due to a higher threat density. I know feel that we can win within a reasonable amount of time so long as we have two of the three deck components i.e. lock, active threat, or static threat. Now, I just have to buy the dang thing in paper all over again. haha

Do you or anyone else have suggestions for the SB?

As for that Boros version? I cannot believe you are including color Ray! More colors help, like my Gobots went from Mono-Red to Gruul to now Jund...but it took 4-5 years and a thousand matches to get to that conclusion. lol You see, I needed to answer a specific and broad type of threat that caused me to go green and black. Green was included to handle Midrange, but that same color has garnered even more dynamic options. And, black was included to handle Aggro in a dynamic way. What is it that Mono Red cannot answer that you need to alter the core of Pyro Prison so much to gain access to White?

    Hey JayJayHooks,

Thanks for responding. Interesting. The problem I have had is getting blown out via spot removal. I have a solid answer via Shapers' Sanctuary in my Jund list; however, I was wanting build a Mardu version and I can't seem to find anything that gives me the raw value that SS does. But, with a different color different solutions are offered for the same problem.

I know its dead as a doorknob in here, but does anyone have a good sideboard card for midrange in the color of white or white plus another color?

I did it. I pulled out the green and bought a bunch of knife ears on MTGO and...I have been quite disappointed. I think I won one round out of 10 plus matches? When ever I versus Elves its mana dork into Heritage in to a million elves that crush dreams. As for me? It's mana dork into dorks and more thin skinned bodies that lie down and die. If I do get a creature I need i.e. lord - it anticlimactically dies. every. single. time. And, if I get close to wining next turn they beat me to the win condition. I am quite shocked Elves are under performing. I feel like the only win condition is dropping two Shaman of the Pack on turn three or four or five. :/

the blue splash is the Beck // Call version.. maybe with intruder alarm.. these are the reasons to try simic

gruul was tested when bloodbraid elf was unbanned "to fight" jace. dont tested it by myself

Wow! Now that’s going OFF! haha With the right set up I’m thinking one could play their entire deck. Now I know. And, with the amount of mana Elves can keep up after each turn SB counters can be a real threat to the opponent. Very interesting blend over the Golgari version. I tip my hat to it.

Yeah. I believe that this is a beauty of Elves: lots of options. Especially when it comes to splashing (or even not splashing at all). I like to go Abzan, which I got IRL, and I've been trying Sultai lately. Anyway, thanks @spec.ops for contributing to the topic. Don't hesitate to post something or to share experiences with us. Smile

Well I am a low level content producer. I wonder if I should start off mono green or go right into golgari? Golgari almost seems to eliminate the need for Ezuri.

And green blue? What blue spells are worth the splash? White and black are powerful colors in modern. I can’t see a gruul splash being all that needed in elves. But you have me curious on that blue splash.

Maybe since stompy has so much trouble interacting or disrupting it should include more life gain creatures to better help board stabilization while it builds up?

I see I see. I see many different builds and explosive options in elves which will all need to be played out on MTGO.

Welcome to the elvish society, my friend. I have always hated the old Llanowar Elves art, too. Laughing

Anyway, about Throne of the God-Pharaoh... by the time it was released in Amonkhet, everybody was testing it and it felt like a great option. When Bloodbraid Elf was unbanned though, it seemed like Kolaghan's Command became a nightmare, specially because at the same time Death's Shadow became a very popular deck. On the other hand, it is very good against control still. Cryptic Command becomes a lot less powerful when the Throne is on the battlefield. It also plays around Ensnaring Bridge when you have a Heritage Druid on the field and no Shaman of the Packs available to cast/search. Overall, it is still playble of course, but not as good as it seemed to be when released. An interesting otpion, I would say. Maybe it's kinda personal. You should definitely try it if you can.

Just a tip: if you're playing on MTGO, wait a bit before getting Heritage Druid. It spiked suddently for certain reasons in the end of january, but it will surely go back to normal soon (around 2 tickets).

Good stuff there and it feels good to be part of the shard! I come from a Robots and Goblin background so of course I gravitate to an artifact. Haha

I’m buying elves foil, but one slot at a time. I just got the full art llanowars for 6 bucks each so it was a steal.

What is the deal with Sentinel? I read an article where one guy said they were a win more card and would rather have a mana dork in staring hand. Any truth to this?

So, I have finally decided, after finishing my primary deck, to move onto another deck. I have chosen elves! But, only because the art has improved. I never understood why punk rock and withered old men seemed to be MTGs vision of what elves looked like. With that out of the way, I most defiantly want to go Golgari for Shaman of the Pack and Stain the Mind to close out asap and counter Terminus.

Now, being new to elves, but having played against them many times, I have a question. How come Throne of the God-Pharaoh is not abused. It seems, at least to this untrained elf player, that it would add a lot of pressure to the opponent since elves seem to tap a shard of elves every turn. You can't tell me it is a win more card when it helps close games quicker and works in conjunction with SotP.

Ah, I see. That clears things up a bit for me. Since I play a weenie rush I fear pyro. But, trim is having to deal with much larger problems than weenies. lol It’s crazy how some of the King Kongs of modern have been eroded i.e. tron, robots, jund...I think the only deck to not only survive, but improve is RDWs. <_<

    Well thank you Smile

Hey guys, I am old-ish player who used to play tron back in the day when it was not only green but red! Now, I am a aggro player through and through. And, back then, it was a coin flip if my aggro deck could slide under or bounce back after a board reset, becasue tron packed sooo many board reset options. In those days I feared and respected tron. Now, its a free win for me, every day all day every game, due to the lack of interaction till turn three. I can reason red was removed to better the odds against non-creature based decks i.e. control and combo, but with the meta being more aggro based I am surprised tron refuses to pick up its old tried and true battle axes - engineered explosives and pyroclasm. There are newer "battle axes" to use now days, but you get the point.

Hey guys, I'm coming off of my MTG break and I decided to try my luck with small zoo again.

    So far its been successful.

    Here is the build.

    CONSIDERING:
    4x Signal Pest
    4x Atarka's Command
    4x Lightning Bolt
    4x Blossoming Defense

The deck plays out like you would think.

Drop Pelt Collector or Experiment One turn one and follow it up with bigger creatures and tap.

You can watch a match play out HERE.

Quality is off, but it's been a while like I said.

    Hey buddy,

Let’s see, we’ll Kuldotha differs from other modern decks in that it is one of the premiere aggro decks. Premier in that it is HYPER aggro. It moves faster than normal aggro decks. Other decks that you can compare it to would be small zoo w/ Reckless Bushwhacker and successive Burning-Tree Emissarys and Robots w/ Crainial Plating on turn two slamming for a truck load.

Galvanic Blast like all reach spells reduce consistency and density. But, I’ve found a few reach spells can help carry the day. GB suffers from jank in that the deck may not allow for metalcraft when you need it. Plus, GB contends with Goblin Grenade and Shrapnel Blast. When conspired in that way, GB is pushed out.

Pest can be slow, but it is required in such a creature dense deck since he is such a huge threat. Preferably, you want to drop it turn one followed by two haste creatures or turn three followed by pest and a whacker.

If you want a Kuldotha deck that uses more reach spells it’s going to be a tough challenge IMO. I’ve seen them post before with 5-0 win results, but I always find it to be luck as the jank is high for the level of play.

If I was going for a strong reach build I would main Goblin Grenade and Shrapnel Blast.

What list are you using nowadays? I used a slightly more burn-oriented version, but i dont have the mox and it fells nice. But i dont have a lot of stuff like the guides and only 2 loyalists. I also tested you sample version and it does fells amazing. But i think 2 is the right number for Shrapnel Blast

I was playing MTG quite heavily until November or December time frame where I pretty much dropped it. But, before I dropped it. I had altered the 75 slightly. In the Resources section I rearranged it as such:

    - Blackcleave Cliffs [x4]
    - Copperline Gorge [x4]
    - Bloodstained Mire [x1]
    - Wooded Foothills [x1]
    - Blood Crypt [x1]
    - Stomping Ground [x1]
    - Mountain [x4]

This Jund color splash give Gobots access to a very adaptive sideboard.

    - Rackdos Charm [x3]
    - Pithing Needle [x3]
    - Shaper’s Sanctuary [x3]
    - Genesis Chamber [x3]
    - Layline of Punishment [x3]

I do miss CoS. I would need further testing to determine if there was a way to fit it in.

And, there is a new card named Cindervines that would work well against many various decks. But, for right now, I’m going to side with Jund over Gruul until further notice.
