Hello all. With Red slowly getting more conditional draw, (I can't build a deck with red in it without Faithless Looting) I've been wondering how the "exile the top card of your library, until end of turn you many play that card" effects are?
Cards like Commune with Lava, Act on Impulse, and Prophetic Flamespeaker.
Do you end up usually exiling something good? Obviously if you have access to better things (like Islands) then these cards aren't too good. But what of in mono-red? Boros?
Mageta the Lion, though mono-white, is pretty powerful and an unusual pick for a commander. Along with Avacyn and other Indestructible dudes he can give you card advantage despite the two card activation cost.
Don't forget you can reset planeswalkers with his ability too. Jace, Architect of Thought twice is pretty good. Use Venser, the Sojourner -1 to make Brago unblockable and then use his +2 to get even more blink shenanigans.
Honestly I would go for the 'until end of turn'land animators rather than the enchantments (such as Natural Affinity. Maybe add something like Dosan the Falling Leaf because wraths will put knock you almost entirely out of the game.
I never knew that Palinchron had flying.
But seriously, it took me forever to realize that the Eldrazi aren't artifact creatures. (What's the big deal? I can Shatter that Kozilek, Butcher of Truth. Ohh? Ohh no.)
Hello all.
I really want to make a King Macar, the Gold-Cursed deck. He's flavorful and his ability seems pretty good. I was brainstorming, looking for good ways to tap him without attacking (just seems like too many slots to devote to tap/untapped effects as well as voltron cards) when I remembered one of my favorite control enchantments: Opposition.
Anyways to make a long story short, I had come up with a Dimir tap/untap deck. Having no commander I remembered that Merieke Ri Berit decks like to untap a lot.
So my questions are:
What are some good tap/untap effects?
For those who play Merieke or Macar, is building around the ability worth it?.
Frankly, I'm really disappointed. Since she's the last god to be spoiled, I've been waiting and thinking they've maybe saved the best for last. Compared to every other god, she's terrible. She's entirely dependent on what your opponents are doing. You could argue that you could exile your own cards but you can get better effects than just a 1/1 deathtoucher. At 3cc you've got Thassa (who controls your draws) and the new W/B God who I could see being built around. All of the gods either do something on their own (like Thassa or Ephara) or helps out when they become creatures (like Nylea and the W/R god.) Pharka is entirely dependent on your opponent to even do anything at all, and even then the tokens have deathtouch ensuring that it's going to take even more work from you not to lose card advantage from giving them some good chump blockers.
Sorry for the wall of text, I'm just rather disappointed. G/B is my favorite color combo. The only deck I can see her being in is Glissa, because giving creatures to opponents helps you out alot more.
end rant.
Hello all. For reference: Yeva, Nature's Herald and Kamahl, Fist of Krosa
So I'm really wanting to start finishing out my mono-colored decks and I'm having trouble deciding between the two. Both allow Green to do thing that they can't normally do. Yeva allows Green to break out of the main phase and act like a mono-blue deck, while on the other hand, Kamahl gives something that green so very desperately needs: Wrath protection. So my question is, to anyone that's got experience with either commander, which one is a more effective commander? I think either way, they're both going in the deck.

Just a thought if you want to go more creature oriented. Good luck with the deck building!
