Reasons to play Shardless Foundry:
-You like Grindy games
-You like value
-Combo decks are your element, but you want to get everyone by playing a combo deck wrapped in a fair one.
Card Choices -
Creatures Shardless Agent - The main reason to play UG over Esper or any other combination, and you will usually know what card you are cascading into. Also is an aftifact to sac to Foundry. Baleful Strix - Card advantage, will kill any attacker, and is an artifact. Always have 4. Deathrite Shaman - This card is basically a planeswalker, a mainstay in any deck with BG.
Spells Abrupt Decay - Kills any creature in the format and can't be stopped. EVER. Brainstorm- The best card in the format, and allows cascading to be set up with Shardless Agent. Force of Will - Stops what the opponent wants to do at a very low cost. Ancestral Vision - A very good card on the first few turns and makes Shardless Agent pure value. Maelstrom Pulse - The catch-all, stops everything from Delver to Griselbrand. Ponder - A extra brainstorm and shuffle effect. Jace, the Mind Sculptor - Brainstorm 5-8 and the -1 comes out more times then you would think.
Artifacts Thopter Foundry - The namesake card, will make any artifact a 1/1 flier that gains 1 life. It's true power is only shown when combined with Sword of the Meek. Sword of the Meek - The second half of the combo and will upgrade any guy to make then a little better.
The mana base and SB can be tweaked a little, so all suggestions are welcomed.
I think this sort of Temur could work but it really depends on the meta. Your mana base is kinda messed up. I don't think any Confluences are even necessary with the 8 caryatids and rattleclaws, you could go with 4 Yavimaya Coasts or some temple so you don't always have to take a bunch of pain off of your land.
So you want to play Temur do you? You like smashing face, playing above the curve creatures, burning stuff and holding up mana for powerful instants and the occasional counterspell? Well then this is the deck for you.
This is the core of our, I mean your, deck. Your deck should contain some number of these cards in the 60.
3-4 Savage Knuckleblade - The card is insane, and with enough mana is near impossible to kill. Also a great win-con and trades with any ground ponder.
1-3 Ashcloud Phoenix - Flying is a really good mechanic right now, and flipping it a few times a game is not impossible. Extremely good versus Abzan and Jeskai.
2-4 Stubborn Denial - Very much needed to stop Elspeths, End Hostilities and other removal spells. Never leave home without them.
2-4 Crater's Claws - Removal, plain and simple.
1-4 Polukranos, World Eater - A great beater, creature removal and a win-con all wrapped into one.
3-4 Elvish Mystic - Having a turn 2 Knuckleblade is pretty good, but a terrible late game topdeck.
3-4 Rattleclaw Mystic – A 2/1 that no one will want to spend removal on. Is another morph if you deck contains a high number of them and can get you 6 mana on turn 3. Having it over Sylvan Caryatid depends on the texture of your deck. OR
3-4 Sylvan Caryatid – A 0/3 that can stonewall aggressive decks and cannot be burned to death. Having it over Rattleclaw depends on the texture of your deck.
Now here are some spice cards you can put in to make your deck more aggressive, control, or even midrange-y.
Planeswalkers Kiora, the Crashing Wave - A card more suited for the more midrange/control-esque versions. Xenagos, the Reveler - Taxes removal for creatures and has some nice synergy with Polukranos and Crater's claws. Sarkhan, Dragonspeaker - A stormbreath dragon that can remove a courser but can be attacked to death. He competes with stormbreath for the 5-drop slot so the number between them depends on your deck. Nissa, Worldwaker – She makes tramplin’ 4/4’s and pseudo ramps. Nissa is a nightmare for control to deal with once you have sufficient protection for her. Chandra, Pyromaster – A great card that pushes through damage and is card advantage. Instants and Sorceries See the Unwritten - A win more card, and near unplayable if you are not using your graveyard. Temur Charm - Does what it needs to, and is put to best use in a more controlling Temur deck. Lightning Strike – Kills planeswalkers and creatures, allows your 2 power guys to punch through Nyx-Fleece Ram and can deal the last few points of damage. You have to have a good reason to not run at least 3 of these in your 75. Chord of Calling – Better in a toolbox style deck, not good outside of that archetype. Enchantments Temur Ascendancy - Close to unplayable, it puts you ahead if you can get it early on but is a terrible topdeck late game. There are often better cards you can put in this slot. Creatures Heir of the Wilds - Trades with anything, good late game or early. Stormbreath Dragon - A 4/4 fying haster, with protection from white. Bettering a Esper control, or Abzan midrange heavy meta. It competes with Sarkhan for the 5-drop slots. The only reason you don't run these is that you have an extremely aggressive build. Courser of Kruphix - Card advantage and is pretty good when paired with Chandra. Made for more Midrange decks. Sagu Mauler - Good for the Temur decks that want to "Go over the top" of other Gx Devotion decks. Extremely good in a control heavy meta. Fanatic of Xenagos - A good card for the more aggressive Temur decks. And will most likely always have 4 power to give more value to Heir of the wilds or Crater’s Claws. Boon Satyr - A good card that can turn any creature into a monster. A combat trick and sometimes a removal spell. Goblin Rabblemaster – A 3-drop and will win the game on it's own if left unchecked. Competes with all the other 3-drops. Surrak Dragonclaw - An above the curve 6/6 that makes sure all your creatures come down and push through damage. A good interaction with Heir of the Wilds. Keranos, God of Storms - A good card in a control heavy meta, has a chance to be "online". Should always be in the 75. Eidolon of Blossoms - A better card in a deck with a Constellation subtheme. Kiora’s Follower – Should not be played unless you can abuse Nykthos or Yisan. Prophet of Kruphix – Easily allows you to go way over the top of other decks, but is better in a deck with a high top-end Clever Impersonator – The best clone ever made, better in toolbox versions.
Now that you have the deck constructed here are some sideboard options.
Keranos, God of Storms – A good card in a control heavy meta, has a chance to be "online". Should always be in the 75. Disdainful stroke – Always good, counters Stoke, Rhino and Dig Through Tme, at least 2 should be in the sideboard. Ætherspouts – A good card versus aggro but gets worse when the opponent can play around it. Hunt the Hunter Let’s nearly anything kill Seige Rhino and it wrecks monogreen and GR monsters decks. Magma Spray – Great versus aggro and whip decks which have been becoming more popular. Anger of the Gods – Excellent versus whip decks and boss sligh style decks. Reclamation Sage – Should always be in the 75. It kills Courser, slows down heroic and leaves a 2/1 body to boot! Destructive Revelry – Competes with Rec Sage but it deals 2 to the face or an opposing planeswalker, Always good. Surrak Dragonclaw - An above the curve 6/6 that makes sure all your creatures come down and push through damage. A nightmare for control to stop once the ball gets rolling. Stubborn Denial – This card is that good! You should have at least 3 at all times in the 75.
Threats to Temur are those pesky low to the ground aggressive decks, such as Boss Sligh, Heroic Variants and the various Jeskai decks. As a temur player you’re trying to outmuscle the midrange of the format, so a faster deck puts you in an awkward position. They are faster than you, and the deck does not like being out tempo’ed or being forced to be the control deck. Mardu removal is also a hard deck to beat, another deck answering out threats and keeping us on the backfoot.
The biggest strength of Temur is stronger threats and access to countermagic and burn from the board. The best matchups are Gx Monster decks if we can get off the ground faster then them and if we can keep our threats diverse. Also Temur's Control matchups are extremely well as well as Abzan, thought it is a grindy one.
I think it would be better if when players see the Temur Midrange thread it looks more official, rather then someones budget deck thread. Then other people can put add more cards as they are released. So to answer your question, yes.
I have been wanting to play more of a Tempo deck lately without turning back...
..... a fan of siding into heavy counter decks with all of the midrange floating around. The permissions package is what I like about UB Control, but what I do not like about UB Control is that this permission suit in the MB means it can often times get caught with its pants down.
I think the deck you are trying to play is Temur Tempo or Temur control. And while I am a fan of the concept I do not think it does well in execution. I feel you sacrifice power for reactive spells.
If someone (like a mod) want's to make this look "official" like the other Primer forums go right ahead.'
Okay Temur fans, I think I found the "Core" deck:
3-4 Savage Knuckleblade - The card is insane, and with enough mana is near impossible to kill.
1-3 Ashcloud Phoenix - Flying is a really good mechanic right now, and flipping it a few times a game is not impossible.
3-4 Heir of the Wilds - Trades with anything, good late game or early.
2-4 Stubborn Denial - Very much needed to stop Elspeths, End Hostilities and other removal spells. Neverleave home without them.
1-2 Chandra,Pyromaster - Card advantage to fuel late game gas.
2-4 Crater's Claws - Removal, plain and simple.
1-3 Polukranos, World Eater - A great beater, creature removal and a win-con all wrapped into one.
3-4 Elvish Mystic - Having a turn 2 Knuckleblade is pretty good, but a terrible late game topdeck.
3-4 Rattleclaw Mystic OR Sylvan Caryatid - Both are ramp but one is a beater and the other is near impossible to kill. Up to your decks texture.
Kiora, the Crashing Wave - A card more suited for the more midrange/control-esque versions. She get's worse in a Jeskai heavy meta. Stormbreath Dragon - A 4/4 fying haster, with protection from white. Bettering a Esper control, or Abzan midrange heavy meta. Sarkhan, Dragonspeaker - A stormbreath dragon that can remove a courser but can be attacked to death. He competes with stormbreath for the 5-drop slot so the number between them depends on your deck. Also very good in a control heavy meta. Fanatic of Xenagos - A good card for the more aggressive Temur decks. Boon Satyr - A card more suited for the more Tempo Temur decks Goblin Rabblemaster - An allstar, can and will win the game on it's own if left unchecked. Competes with all the other 3-drops. Surrak Dragonclaw - An above the curve 6/6 that makes sure all your creatures come down and push through damage. A good interaction with Heir of the Wilds. Keranos, God of Storms - A good card in a control heavy meta, has a chance to be "online" Eidolon of Blossoms - A better card in a deck with a Constellation subtheme. See the Unwritten - A win more card, and near unplayable if you are not using your graveyard. Temur Ascendancy - Unplayable, puts you ahead if you can get it early on but is a terrible topdeck late game. Temur Charm - Does what it needs to, but usually sits as a dead card.
I actually like Stoke the Flames in Temur decks, you have some burn to kill opposing Courser of Kruphix and Goblin Rabblemaster. They also help push through those last points of damage if you don't have some trampling guy.
They should've banned Elspeth in Theros block constructed, only decks with her in it are any good and she stifles other viable archetypes that would've come out.
I like it like pseudo cascade, my only gripe is that it needed trample, I like my win-mores. Unfortunately it is not constructed playable and it is garbage in Tribal Hydras. No one wants to cast a 0/0 for free.
