Has anyone tried Ghostly flicker in this Deck?
My idea for using came from the fact that it can bounce so many pretty sweet targets.
bounce targets:
trinket/treasure mage - search for more answers
platinum angel-for protection
pithing needle - to select a new target
sundering titan-obvious
tron lands- generate more mana(also untaps a land ,so effectively only costing 1U)
Pity about wurmcoil,but alas we cant have everything.
Also has anyone thought about running paradise mantle?
maybe with trinket mages it could be an effective form of mana ramp? mayhaps.
Just some ideas please comment on why they wont work.
Woah , just spotted this thread after making my combo deck thread Mono U combo . Man your combo deck idea is awesome,and there appears to be alot of synergy between how the two decks operate,I'm afraid I may have to steal some of your ideas for my deck(completely forgot about Illusionist's bracers and codex shredder).
this deck uses meletis charlatan,hidden strings,nyxthos,shrine to nyx and 6 devotion to blue to generate infinite mana.Then draws the deck using oracles insight and finally mills the opponent using doorkeeper.
I think the best kind of shell for it is definitely a tempo shell so here goes:
The combo works by casting hidden strings ,then tapping nyxthos for 6 U mana ,use charlatan to copy strings,when the copy resolves you have 3 U mana floating and an untapped charlatan,untapped nyxthos and a hidden strngs on the stack.Tap nyxthos(using 2 U ) to generate 6 U(U+6U = 7U total in pool),use 3 U to copy hidden strings with charlatan(original is still on the stack) leaving 4U floating with hidden strings copy on the stack,repeat.
once 1000000 mana is generated use charlatan,hidden strings any other creature and oracle's insight to draw the entire deck.
Then cast a doorkeeper,use hidden strings ,charlatan and 1000000 mana to mill the opponent.
Quicken allows this to happen at instant speed,and also cantrips(which is nice ) .Quicken+hidden strings also allows land tapping shenanigans,combined with charlatan can become very annoying .
In fact the combo can work with only 5 U devotion,as long as an initial 6 U is generated(say 5 islands and a nyxthos).Meaning the deck can potentially kill as soon as turn 5(or 4 with mana ramp), but it is more of a tempo deck ,so holding out building mana and resources works out much better.
Thoughts and suggestions?
It is weak to those, but Golgari charm can handle both(regenerate and enchantment destruction).Which could be pretty useful,not to mention the -1/-1 option to save rats when chumping or attacking.Mayhaps a Junk shell?with selesnya populate and Rootbound defenses?
What are folks thoughts on the new Theros blue X spell :Curse of the swine.an X costing exiling psuedo wipe sounds pretty good in my opinion.it leaves behind 2/2's but not bad if you have a wurmcoil out,mayhaps?
came 15th out of 51 at a local modern tournament here in sunny South Africa.
Tournament results:
1st match;Vs affinity.went 0-2,got completely smashed.after multiple cyclonic rifts and dismembers he still managed to beat through with infect and damage both games.one vulnerability spotted is the lack of flying blockers.
2nd match: vs combo elves.went 1-1-1.won the first game with slaver lock(as he was sitting at 52 trillion life).2nd game sided in pithing needle,trinket mage,and 2 chalices.held off with chalices for a while.realized pithing needle is useless against elves(can only stop the artifact destroying one :/).couldnt stop him from beating my face in with an emmy after comboing.3rd game chaliced him for 1 and 2 .realized a stupid mistake when I bounced the wrong elf,allowing him to pay for a summoners pact on upkeep(retarded play on my part) went to time.
3rd match:vs modern mill 1-1-1,first match beat down with wurmcoils with plenty of cards left in library.2nd game sided in chalices,trinket mage and elixir of immortality(part of my trinket mage package).dropped platinum angel,but couldnt stop the mill till my library was gone,dismember on angel.gg.(didnt see any chalices/elixir)3rd game kept elixiring my library back while they struggled with platinum,ran out of time a turn before lethal damage :/ I hate timed matches.
4th match: exalted(didnt know it was modern :/)2-0:wasnt a very good deck.wurmcoils easily outraced his damage.2nd game slaver lock without a sweat.
5th match:vs elves(again!)2-0.beat down with wurms easy win both games.
6th match:vs gruul aggro:2-0.fought through lots of LD,counters and rifts kept his board empty,he couldnt deal with the wurmcoil engines and their tokens.easy beatdown both games.
went 3-2-1 (15th),not bad for my first time playing the deck at a modern tournament(first tournament as well).
was wondering if Shimmering grotto might be a replacement for Oboro?it doesnt require a land drop for the turn,also can produce any color mana(black for dismember?).cant protect itself ,but I didn't have too much of a problem with LD(maybe just my local meta).

I thought that it may be pretty useful at snatching others Karns/lilianas,etc. or just grabbing something big and horrible on the opposite side of the field.
the cmc isn't so much a problem i think,just the UU is a bit worrying.is it maybe too underpowered for modern?or just too far from this decks gameplan?
My thoughts on Trading post is that it can be used as a psuedo academy ruins ,while also providing some much needed lifegain/chump blockers versus aggro,later in the game it also cantrips itself.But maybe the 4cmc cost is a bit much for it's utility.

this is a deck I'm currently building for EDH(it's missing alot of good cards,ie kikijiki.But they are out of my budget range for now).The deck I've built so far is a budget friendly ,fun,multiplayer chaos deck.I'm hoping to full it out with some more utility goblins as soon as possible.Please Discuss and give advice on improvements,and any thoughts you have on it.thanks.

another nice interaction is that Trinket mage can fetch an expedition map if we are in dire need of finding tron pieces,which is nice.
also what are others thoughts on running negate,cyclonic rift and Trading post in the SB?
I'm getting my cards soon,but I couldn't get remands(juuuusssstt out of my budget),would the deck run fine with mana leaks as replacements,or is it completely non-competitive without them?

Standard has almost everything it needs(bar a boomerang replacement :/) to build a decent U/W tempo deck.
