fragility is the main thing, i mean even the burn side of turn/burn or pillar kills him. and while thats true thats still only a 75% chance of having the mana to play him any given game
you make a good argument. i keep looking at cards with a naya blitz mindset, where having a dead card in my hand means death...
while she does help against many matchups, you may find she will become a hindrance in a lot of aggro matchups. i also only run 5 non creature spells (8's not that bad either)
The only point that redeems silverblade in my opinion is his timing, the chances of me dropping him t3 are low, he comes down as a finisher, although i agree a flimsy one, if you have any thought about replacements though i'm open to it.
Thinking about squeezing sin collector into the sideboard.
lots of people love silverblade paladin, but i just don't see it as much as they do. yes he's good, but hes hell to a mana base and dies to everything.
the other critique i would give is to cut thalia down to 3, ad maybe move her to the SB. i run 2 mb and 1 sb, because drawing a hand with 2 of her is almost a forced mul
I'm open to dropping the number of silverblade, although he is a huge swing, especially when bonded with a trampler, when bonded with anything big without trample he actually makes it harder to swing into a reckoner. Plus as pointed out he is fragile with a restrictive cost, although in this list only 7 of my land doesn't make white. Open to suggestions on replacements for some number of him.
Thalia is really a nonnegotiable, having two thalia in my hand is not an instant mulligan in my eyes, thalia has a target on her back, so one will very likely die, also lotleth makes use of extra thalia in the hand, same way varolz makes use of extra thalia on the board. As far as i can tell thalia is very well positioned in this meta, her ability to provide tempo against ramp, aggro has even cut her to squeeze more utility spells into their lists. Out of curiosity what do you run?
it just seems like it wants to be junk aristocrats but its not as good
to be more constructive- almost every card individually in this list is really great individually but the synergy doesnt seem to be there as much as in the other junk decks
I understand the critique, at the same time i tend to disagree. Aristocrats is a death scheme, the cards on my list may not have a ton of card to card synergy but they all attack the opponent in the same way, by limiting the ways they can positively interact, it resembles a death and taxes style deck more than it does aristocrats.
You have thalia who attacks their ramp, removal, tokens, whatever, while also eating up most of the creatures an aggro deck would run.
Deathrite who not only acts as a way to hate, but also offers reach similar to the way blood artist would, but for less mana and without relying on synergy.
I also don't run cards that are bad without synergy.
I really am not impressed with junkcrats, it seems like a subpar version of aristocrats.
If you were to offer suggestions to improve the hate bear/ death and taxes style i'm going for what would they be?
First thread post since I joined Mtg Salvation. Been toying with this list for awhile now, I ran a similar list without black at an fnm recently came in second, control folds hard to a number of cards in this deck, almost as fast as aggro but it gets much bigger, I noticed a difficult match up against naya midrange, and I imagine a hard match up against rites. My solution to this problem was adding black, and adding thalia, changing the deck from a gw beatdown to it's current form Junk Hate Bears.
Card choices
1 CMC Deathrite Shaman: Guy is great, reach, life gain, hate on gy shenanigans, plus a 1/2 body with a flexible mana cost, yeah he's a beast.
Experiment One: This guy really shined in my old list but the p/t on this list isn't quite as friendly to evolving, that said he is always a 2/2 for one, very often a 3/3 with a "free" regen, pretty good, playtesting will help me pick between him and the other one drop...
Dryad Militant: 2/1 for one mana, a relevant hate feature, flexible mana cost, seems good, experiment one is undeniably stronger, but the hate is relevant, open to suggestions on this one.
Avacyn's Pilgrim: T2 loxodon smiter is good, can be thrown out with lotleth, I'd rather have threatening one drops but I could very easily see this guy ending up in the deck with more playtesting.
Rancor: Card is great, period. Despite this a good deal of the time I can see this one coming out for abrupt decay to hate on mana dorks, for the midrange matches.
2 CMC Lotleth Troll: He's hard to deal with, he grows, he has trample. That said, this is not the deck that is going to make lotleth huge most of the time, if Varolz, the Scar-Striped hits he helps get fodder into the yard, makes Experiment One a relevant draw in the mid game, bonds well with Silverblade Paladin, overall a solid choice.
Thalia, Guardian of Thraben: Provides tempo against a variety of builds, slows midrange and rites, nearly shuts down control, eats aggro bodies for dinner, also wears a rancor like a boss.
Strangleroot Geist: Haste, undying, the mana cost is kinda rough, but ultimately I made the choice that it seemed less useful than the other two drops, but I still love this guy.
Selesnya Charm: Removal against fatties, a pump spell, instant speed 2/2 vigilance, card is solid.
Abrupt Decay: Helps eliminate dorks which is an important feature against midrange, provides removal against aggro. I feel like it is better suited for the side board.
Spare from Evil: Push damage for the win, block for a one sided fog, seems like decent tech, rogue choice, for unexpected goodness.
Voice of Resurgence: There has been some debate over this guy, the debate is silly, control cries when he hits, aggro cries when they have to swing into him, he is a 2 cmc problem card, you have to deal with him, and as long as you are dealing with him you aren't dealing with the actual threats.
3 CMC Loxodon Smiter: 4/4 for three, can't be countered, comes into play if your opponent makes you throw it away, evenly matches a smiter, with a rancor it kills almost every body in the format. What's the downside to this card?
Sliverblade Paladin: Double strike is awesome, double strike with trample is even better, that is all.
Varolz, the Scar-Striped: He lets you grow over your midrange opponents, "free" regen, the regen ability feeds the pump, turns a dead smiter into a 4/4 buff for three, seems good.
So that is the deck, any choices I didn't mention, or suggestions to the deck in general are welcome. In general I am open to critique, giving advice on others' decklists, all feed back is welcome.
Took this to fnm, won all my matches 2-0 except for round 4 where i split with a friend of mine, went to the side board 0 times the whole night, i played dudes and my opponents cried.
Match ups
--aggressive mill- 2-0, nothing really to say here, aggressive mill is bad.
--rakdos burn- 2-0, alot of early burn spells to my dudes but with very little impact, stalled game 2 with a nighthawk but there was never a point where i had any concern about losing.
--jund midrange- 2-0 i came out really hard both games his deck crumbled.
--naya midrange- split (my friend) honestly probably the hardest match up i've played with the deck, i'm glad we were in a position to split.
Top 8
--grixis control- 2-0 once again blow out, turn 2 voice: control cries.
Oh btw experiment one is a champ, he was consistently becoming a 3/3 and a 4/4, between him geist, voice, smiter and advent this deck is basically control proof.
I think the worst match up for the deck is going to be naya midrange, and maybe junk rites, so obviously there are gy hosers, but i'm looking for a more versatile anti midrange strategy than that for my side board, thoughts?
Temoral mastery is strictly worse than time walk, plasm capture would not be, adding any color is a fairly significant bonus, sure mana drain is still better, but if mark rosewater hates mana drain that much, hard to say if this card would be printed, especially with cavern rotating out long before this would.
I would love to play simic, especially with kiora finally getting print in theros (hope beyond reason), i would love to play this card.
Current standard, for UWx control's sideboards, i think post rotation he could make a move to the main board. I like interesting mythics so much more than the format shaping ones, and i do love this guy, people will break him, maybe not in a way that devastates a format but he will be the center piece of decks i believe.
I think it is somewhat possible to put this in reanimater, but it'd have to be a very weird version that used cards like loteth troll and whispering madness, janky but it could interesting.
One with nothingness is an awesome idea, i love you.
In modern there is dredge, in standard there is lotleth troll, i don't see the problem, does it need support to shine? Yup, you know who else was a bad card till people figured out what sort of deck to play it in? bob. Is he busted like bob? No, he is a good card with decent interactions, i'm willing to bet he will find a good home in golgari zombies. after rotation, who knows.

Thank you.

Frontline Medic Mainly for stalled board states, and Bonfire of the Damned, also helps beat in with a boros reckoner on the board.
Ready // Willing Solid sideboard card against a variety of matchups, I wish it'd fit in the mainboard, alas...
The Land
Shocks and duals, I don't run utility, makes the mana too hard, although vault of the archangel would be great.
