I know this question has probably been asked many times on here, but I am really stumped and need advice. With the prices of the Modern Masters booster box sky rocketing to nearly $250+, is it even worth it? I am currently trying to get into Modern (Just playing Standard and Commander at the moment) but am without or only have a singleton of the few staples coming out in MM; such as Bob, Goyf, Vendillion Clique, Cryptic Command, etc. Should I just go about buying singles or is the booster box the way to go? I appreciate any advice.
Again, thanks everyone for the constructive criticism.
This is my first take at the Black Ajani. I tried to stay close to what there is of the overlapping color pie of Black and White.

+1 Discard a card. Target opponent loses two life and you gain two life.
-X Put target creature card with converted mana cost X or less from a graveyard to the battlefield under you control. You lose X life.
-8 Destroy all creatures you don’t control. Draw a card for each creature destroyed this way.
Thank you for the C.C. I also thought the Garruk was spot on and figured the instant speed clause was just because of blue and giving a creature hexproof for a turn doesn't do much when an opponent could just respond. Also, I see what you mean by the loss of Chandras flavor. I am currently working on a Red Jace and Black Ajani that I will post soon.
Do you have any recommendations on the abilities that don't necessarily fit?
I apologize in advance if there is anything I did incorrectly because I am new to MtGSalvation and obviously the Custom Card Creation Thread:

-3 You get an emblem with “Mana doesn’t empty from your mana pool as steps and phases end.”
