I wanted to throw this up because there hasn't been an actual thread for it's focused discussion. I was also just curious to read people's perspectives/(convictions even?) on where they stand and why.
his list is ok. you're better off at looking on cubetutor for some of the more pauper/peasant lists and you'll be able to find a list you'd like to work off of.
it's probably on par with using the monarch mechanic. we've found that it can produce some pretty unique situations and can create some pretty heavy swings.
our group has allowed the "monarch/crown" to be considered as an artifact which adds a nice way to interact with the effect. we'll probably treat the blessing of the city in the same regard and do a lot of testing to see if cards become to broken with the effect (pending that they are the right effect in the environment to begin with)
hello everyone, i figured i'd be the first to repost in here for 2018 and try to revive this thread a bit; I do believe this is actually the best way to play Magic. perhaps you've already seen my box/room but here's a link to it. I'm happy to give a brief overview of what it is and why it's the way it is if anyone is interested or has questions/comments.
as the title suggests, this is probably the highest power level box/room posted on CT (or at least from what I've seen listed)
if anyone knows of ones with similar power, I'd love to see yours/them; or if you just want me to comment or give suggestions, I'm always down to help people.
i've made some drastic changes to my box and have another 20-30cards i haven't added onto CT but this is a good showing until i get the changes in. enjoy http://www.cubetutor.com/viewcube/72492
I had my box custom made by Designcraft Industries a few years back. Still going strong and it works like a charm! It held my 390 cube (now 375), 40 of each land, and some miscellaneous cards quite easy. You just give them your measurements and they custom make the box for you. It's great!
For the record —
I don't think it would answer anything to any particular degree.
I wasn't even considering drawing the answer.
If I have the intention of playing problematic-power cards (which I most certainly do) than I will include as many reasonable sideboard answers for players to potentially draft—at the very least, they have some opportunity to counter that card if wanted.
whether it happens or not is up to rng; but at least the player knows there was/is an opportunity to draft an answer if one was presented for that/those card(s) which were passed for staying disciplined in their draft process.
hate drafting or drafting a power playable card (in cube) if you know the card is practically un-answerable is certainly correct; but, I see that as a mistake from a design standpoint.
It's finding that balance between fun and power. Those two cards are powerful, but can completely shut down other archetypes you might be trying to push, like aggro or token swarms.
I think it's time to take Grafted Wargear out of my cube. I played with it the other night, and had it in my opening hand the first two games. I had to say sorry the second time I played it. We played a third game, and I sideboarded it out because it was feeling unfun. It's a first pick no matter what you are playing, and doesn't make for any interesting decisions in drafting or playing.
I've found Slow Motion fills a similar role to Ghostly Prison/Propaganda, so far I've not found it too oppressive.
the problem isn't the cards being "too oppressive" — the problem is you only have 3 ways to answer any enchantments or artifacts.
arrest > oblivion ring or banishing light?
slaughterhorn > reclamation sage?
waylay is meh'... but wing shards > disenchant? or even other fringe 3cmc spells like timely reinforcements, etc. etc...

it's definitely improved from the last time I remember seeing it, but there are still some relatively weak cards I saw in the drafting process.
