It's a good mix of threats and answers and is a lot of fun to play since the deck can play-out in a variety of ways. I'm now looking for a second deck to add to my arsenal. I want something fun that can hold it's own at the table. I've been striking out on inspiration.
Requirements:
NO land destruction
No instant-win combos
I'd like to avoid tribal like zombies, dragons, vampires, elves, goblins.
Not interested in burn and people already have pestilence and reanimation decks at the table.
No chaos, again trying to play Magic here (I have janky EDH decks to fulfill this need)
Even if you don't have full decklist ideas, I'd happily take card suggestions for building a deck around.
I'd say go with a theme deck. I find those to be the most fun to build. They tend to create a challenge in building a deck that is not only on theme, but is also synergistic and capable of holding its own at the table.
Some examples:
-Pick a favorite movie or movie scene. Going off the Doran mentioned previously, build a deck around the Battle of Isengard from Lord of the Rings; include treefolk, kithkin, wizards, towers, staffs, orcs, etc. I also once saw a Wizard of Oz deck. All of there creatures represented one of the characters. They then had other cards with titles, art, or flavor to match other aspects, e.g. heart, brain, yellow brick road, Emerald City.
-Go with a favorite "genre". Here is a pirate deck that could be fun. It goes beyond tribal...This guy even claims to talk like a pirate while he plays it. Lol. http://www.mtgfanatic.com/Decks/ViewDeck.aspx?ID=146136
Hello all. I will be cosplaying as Elspeth, Sun's Champion at an upcoming convention. I'm trying to work on what I will do for the costume contest. Was wondering if I could get any inspiration here; particularly when it comes to music.
Looking for suggestions and ideas for a new EDH deck.
I currently have a Jund dragon tribal deck, Oloro, Ageless Ascetic lifegain based deck, a mono-white weenie (soldiers/knights/humans) deck (soon to be B/W with Athreos, God of Passage), an American chaos/random effect deck, and a B/U/G +1/+1 counter based deck.
Lots of limitations I understand, but any inspiration would be great! Also, I prefer themed based decks as opposed to just throwing "the best" cards together.
Was watching the Star City Games Opener and Invitation this past weekend and I'm wondering why decks started running Gladecover Scout over Voice of Resurgence MD? Sure Gladecover has hexproof and can be suited up with auras quickly, but Voice gives you 2 bodies to deal with sacrifice effects which are very prevalent with all the Jund running around.
Here's a basic list they're running
This is pretty much a Dos Rakis deck. They already made a thread for that in the competitive RDW deck. That thread is over 100 pages long and has some helpful stuff. One of the best reasons that the deck splashes black is for aristocrat. The other is for Knight of Infamy.
My 1st deck was Orzhov Midrange (starting after GTC)...time to give aggro a try with Rakdos! Since this is my 2nd ever deck build, any suggestions would be fantastic to get her FNM ready!
The goal is to get in, smack them up real quick, and get out ;-)
I would like to keep the deck as recent as possible (RTR block) so that it doesn't rotate out. If there are any "must-haves" otherwise, let me know (hopefully they aren't too pricey -since they'll be out soon). ---> Alright, this thought has become very loose now
I am aware of the following cards, but would like to TRY and make the deck without them, due to their price and forthcoming rotation (hopefully something will come out in DGM to replace): Falkenrath Aristocrat and Thundermaw Hellkite
Mr Archimedes -I just put together a rakdos aggro deck (still a WIP). It's looking quite similar to yours, perhaps we can compare. As a side note, I'm trying to keep mine as much as possible to the RTR block (so that it doesn't rotate out)
Here's my deck list:
Why the five-alarm fire? I feel like that is a little slow. I don't know your meta, but victim of night would be a better SB removal in my case. I still feel like my deck isn't fast enough though. It currently doesn't have much staying power if I can't knock the opponent out asap. Since we're quite similar, I feel like you may be in the same boat?
Aqualisk -why do you feel that desecration demon has a greater drawback compared to alm's beast (aside from playing against token decks perhaps)? He serves as a sort of suedo removal and personal pump. Minus, the vizkopa guildmage, would you say he's possibly better?
Run B/W Zombies, with both Liliana and Sorin. You can use Liliana's sacrifice ability and tribute Gravecrawler, or Geralf and get them right back.
That's a completely different direction than what I'm doing. If you'd like to PM a deck list, I'd be interested in taking a look at such a deck, but I'd like to stick with what I generally have at the moment. Thanks!
I run 3x Rest in Peace in my sideboard. I put it out for junk rites, reanimator, mill-gro, and I have sided it before vs control to stop think twice and it was really just an inconvenience for them and a waste of a turn for me. I do like, however, like putting blind obedience to punish restoration angel shenanigans and extort.
Alms Beast is actually one of my favorite cards and I run Vizkopa Guildmage to support it. If he gets lifelink you can turn his 6 damage swings into 12 with guildmage's second ability. Or if you have six mana you can just give him lifelink that way. It makes chump blocking Alms Beast almost a non-issue since they take damage from your lifelink anyway. Not to mention Alms Beast is an absolute wall against aggro decks and they almost never have any answer to him at all.
Thanks for the feedback! Good to know regarding rest in peace and the control matachups, as well naming things with nevermore. What do you mean by punishing restoration angel with blind obedience -does she not have summoning sickness anyways?
Given that I don't have vizkopa guildmage in my deck, would you stick recommend the card? I have no way to give him lifelink aside from vault of the archangel, but I've got to have 4 open mana for that shenanigan, besides the fact that I only have 1 in deck and don't draw it too often.
etc.

Do NOT want to do the following commanders/themes as they are already decks in my close play circle and/or I think they are too cheaty/un-fun: mill, infect, Kaalia of the Vast, Omnath, Locus of Mana, Karador, Ghost Chieftain reanimator, sacrifice, ETB/flicker, super quick T4 combos, token based deck, goblins, and Bruna, Light of Alabaster.
Lots of limitations I understand, but any inspiration would be great! Also, I prefer themed based decks as opposed to just throwing "the best" cards together.

So what about unburial rites vs. undying evil?
