I really don't like the direction design has went the past bunch of years. They really struggle on making a consistent power level... other than consistently weak.
If it makes you feel better, Play Design (the new competitive testing team) did not have input in this set. Their first real project will be Dominaria. -

The card is a great Evolution target, this + Hostage Taker in the 4-mana slot might make "Sultai Evo-Chord" much more viable now. -

Pokken posted a message on [RIX] Rivals of Ixalan: Modern discussionIt wasn't that long ago that Nekrataal saw some main deck play (pod days, obv) but I think it's likely as an evolution target in most evolution decks that play black. And it's a reasonable one-of chord target for abzan company on occasion the meta is creature heavy.Posted in: Modern
Like I said, fringe, but I think it'd be very surprising to not see some sideboard play at the very least. We've never had this effect in modern at 4 mana so it's tough to judge. -

ISBPathfinder posted a message on Deathwing's Debilitating DescentPosted in: Multiplayer Commander DecklistsQuote from Ulka »I feel that the Worldgorger dragon combo should be placed in as it plays with Animate dead, Dance of the dead, and necromancy all of which seem like they should slot into the deck easily outside the combo. It also pairs well with Zirilan of the Claw as an antiboardwipe card.
Other cards I love in my deck (which is horribly out of date on here) that I noticed you weren't running are:
Ashes of the fallen: with you high nondragon density you may want this as a way to use bladewing as a more utility reanimation spell.
Boneyard Scourge: a surprisingly effect beater that in the deck always seems worth it.
Dragon Tempest: I know your dragon density is lower but this card ends games in a similar effect to how Scourge of Valkas does both of which are very strong.
Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury: my last card i'm going to recommend is the dragon lady herself. She along with bladewing on a single swing present 12 damage but add in aother dragon and or some extra mana and you have a game ender.
Just cards for you to mull over.
- Worldgorger Dragon - I don't play combo as kind of a personal thing for me so I guess I have no reason to really include it without the intention to combo off.
- Ashes of the fallen - I considered it but in the end I just didn't really see many cards in my list that I was willing to cast a 7+ mana commander to rez that were not already dragons.
- Boneyard Scourge - my issue is that I am not really going for an aggro build. It has no utility I guess is my issue. I just try to think about a game that is drawn out and I am relying on drawing something relevant and I draw this and I ask how it helps me and I just didnt see much in it. The fact that it requires another dragon to die rather than enter and it costs mana at that time all were strikes against it for me. I opted to run Bladewing's Thrall in part because it costs me no mana and comes in when another dragon enters. I really do like this dragon, I just didn't feel like it fit my build. I saw it a little more as something to consider if I was running more of a focused reanimator plan with more of an aggro focus.
- Dragon Tempest - it just wasn't enough. I cut both Scourge of Valkas and this card from my list because both I was not running that many dragons and because I felt that there really were not enough viable dragons that made sense to run.
- Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury - it feels more aggro than I was trying to be. I am trying to have a lot of my dragons have strong ETB or over time presence and this just felt like a really slow beater to me. I am not really running a swarm with dragons style of list here in part because well.... I looked at all of the dragons and there were not even that many I felt were all that viable.
So, not to shoot down all of your concepts but Bladewing costs 7 so I really wanted high impact dragons who might normally be high target removal priorities. I splashed in some of the discard mechanics to also try to reduce the chances that my opponents still have answers in hand when I go to cast these cards. Being that we have such a late game fatty commander its kind of to our advantage to deprive our opponents of their resources and see if our late game commander can out value what they have done up until then. That is kind of the concept I was going for at least when I was building the list. -

Saffi eriksdotter - My Friend's never die - ODESZA
- Its always been a bad joke that my play group makes as I frickin love that song. and you know saffi's creatures never really die...
Mishra, artificer prodigy - the entirety of the lord of the rings soundtrack. If I had to pick one Gollum's Song
- My mishra deck is Lord of the Rings themed. Look at my link in my sig for pictures of the altars.
He who hungers - Feed me Diamonds - MNDR
- He's hungry and its song about "feeding" someone diamonds. It makes sense to me and my weird music tastes.
Circu, Dimir Lobotomist - Show me - Mint Royale
- The deck shows me the top of the library.
Kazuul, tyrant of the cliffs - We come Running (RAC Remix)- Youngblood Hawks
- nothing like an army of 10 ogre tokens coming running at you...
Daxos of Meletis - Shuffle - Bombay Bicycle Club
the deck shuffles a lot....
Glissa, the traitor - Daydreamer (Gryffin Remix)- Bipolar Sunshine
_ i actually play this song everythime I play glissa as it is one of my favorite songs.
Basically anything on my Soundclound is fair game of what i am listening too. I added the hyperlink previously if you liked the songs I listed above...

My thoughts exactly. With it being Multiplayer this means I need to keep my advantage typically at any cost. And typically with my playgroup I don't nuke it until I have Sun titan or life from the loam in my hand but I often wait until at least turn 6. With my playgroup I have explained it several times and they seem to understand that I don't like battlecrusier magic just like they don't like MLD. Magic is wanting to win typically and my group has come to that understanding. We play it like a resource management game rather than the Timmy game that a lot of stores seem to like it. That's not to say that we don't enjoy the smashface with big creatures and spells at times but we prefer to keep things unpredictable thus we have come to terms with unexpected things will happen and we may spike it up for a game or two but we have an agreement that if someone does something we don't like you must adjust rather than whine and focus them for it in a later game.
