Better than Take Inventory because it's instant, worse than Accumulated Knowledge because it only cares about your graveyard. I loved accumulated knowledge back in the day, but I think card draw has gotten a lot better overall.

Manaweft Sliver is much stronger in your list, and should be a higher priority, than Growing Rites of Itlimoc. The latter is decent, but consider this: generally by the time you have 4+ creatures, you're probably threatening lethal damage: one is hopefully a mana sliver, one is hopefully a protection sliver, one is likely your commander...at that point, what's your 4th? Removal sliver, pump sliver, sliver that grants evasion...any way you slice it, by the time you have 4 slivers through your turn, you're either winning or going to get blown up by your opponents. Growing Rites is ok, but pretty slow compared to what your deck is capable of doing.

I'm surprised that nobody has listed the two actual "green sweepers", apex altisaur and Ezuri's Predation. They aren't the best sweepers but they're mono-green.

Don’t be too surprised, this thread is from 2014, before either of your suggestions were printed.

Other than the belt being in front of or behind the blue circle, what am I missing in terms of the differences between the 4 teferi cards?

The topic of companions is a loaded discussion - I've seen people get very passionate on all sides of them. In EDH I like them, but in other constructed formats they were warping and hence why the mechanic had to change (now costs 3 generic mana to put from sideboard into hand at sorcery speed).

For Slivers, Jegantha, the Wellspring is pretty good as far as companions go. I'd lose Patriarch's Bidding, Telekinetic Sliver, Acidic Slime, Sun Titan, Living Death, and Primal Surge. While I could live without those, the payoff is debatable. Jegantha is good, but once I have access to 5 mana, do I need her as a mana dork? Generally once I've gotten to 5 mana I'm usually doing more impactful things. I think a case could be made for an all-creature version using Umori, the Collector as a companion, but the temptation at that point to just cut Umori and add Primal Surge would be strong.

Good list. How's your budget? Patriarch's Bidding would probably work better than Empty the Catacombs. A few really powerful slivers that aren't currently in your list are Manaweft Sliver, Galerider Sliver, and Sliver Hivelord. I'm not wild about your slivers that only pump their toughness - they should always win in combat and kill people because you're almost always attacking with Sliver Legion or evasion. And though not important against Edgar, counter magic can hurt you, I'd probably play Root Sliver. But I think your list will perform well, I think the biggest missing piece is Manaweft Sliver to help you with ramping up your sliver production.

Why is Grim Tutor worth 10x the cost of a Demonic Tutor, a card that's better in every way?

Supply. Grim Tutor was only printed in paper in Starter 1999, so there is a very small supply of it. And quite a few decks that want one tutor (like the best Demonic Tutor) want all the tutors in order to increase consistency. So if you're building a very competitive EDH deck, and you want all the available tutors in order to tutor out your combo, this card can be in demand.

Well honestly all of them are random
Birthing pod barely sees play in edh

I play a ton of EDH, and can confirm that Birthing Pod sees a lot of play in EDH.

  • posted a message on Pack Rat and Mutate
Say I have a Pack Rat on my board and I then cast a mutate card, say Gemrazer for its mutate cost, mutating my Pack Rat and putting Gemrazer on top. Three questions:
    1) What is my creatures power and toughness, assuming no other creature on board? The top creature of the mutate is a 4/4, but the creature has a characteristic defining ability from Pack Rat, so in my scenario would it just be a 1/1?
    2) Assuming the same as above, now let’s say I use the Pack Rat activates ability of my mutation to make a token. What are the characteristics of my token copy?
    3) Finally, similar to the original scenario but let’s say I mutate a legendary mutate creature like Nethroi, Apex of Death in place of Gemrazer, putting Nethroi on the top of the mutation. If I then use my mutations Pack Rat activated ability to create a token copy, would I then have to place either my original mutation or the token copy into the graveyard as a state based effect due to the legendary rule?

    Thanks in advance!

Regarding your list: it's pretty great, especially considering your budget. I enjoy the challenge of trying to use hatebears in multiplayer EDH - decks are generally so diverse that playing hatebears will slow down some of your opponents, but usually not all of them. And the hatebears that will affect all of your opponents will generally make you a big target. With that in mind, a few thoughts about possible additions or exclusions.
    • Coming soon in Ikoria, Drannith Magistrate is a killer hatebear as it will prevent your opponents from casting their commander from the command zone. It will also have a secondary effect of preventing them from casting from the graveyard, which is relevant in many EDH games.
    • Depending on your meta, Sanctum Prelate and Chalice of the Void are brutal hate cards. The benefit in multiplayer EDH that I see is that you can pick on the most dangerous player at the table by picking numbers of cards you know them to use.
    • Thalia, Heretic Cathar is rarely a dead play. Same with Loxodon Gatekeeper.
    • Deathrite Shaman is an incredible card in nearly every EDH game - he serves multiple functions, including mana fixing, graveyard hate, and incremental life advantage. The only issue is that he's generally a useful mana dork because many EDH lists use fetch lands, which probably aren't in your budget. Depending on what cards you include, you can make some changes to your mana base that would make DRS a pretty reliable mana dork, and this is especially so if your opponents will have lands in their yard regularly. I might add Krosan Verge, Grasslands, Evolving Wilds, and Terramorphic Expanse if the original fetches are not in your budget.
    • Linvala, Keeper of Silence is a backbreaking hatebear that is worth consideration.
    • Scavenging Ooze is a great card in general, and it really is a versatile graveyard hate piece.
    • Aura of Silence is a really great piece of hate.
    • What specific cards are you needing with Enlightened Tutor, Academy Rector, and Shred Memory? These limited tutors would be better as any of the pieces above, in my opinion, especially since you have plenty of other more broad tutors already in your list.
    • Shriekmaw is a pretty good card, but if you're only using it for its ETB ability, there are better cards that do it more consistently. I'd run Ravenous Chupacabra instead, unless you're taking advantage of the evoke ability.

Regarding your deck versus the others, definitely play what and how you want, just be mindful about some common theories of deckbuilding and playing in a casual/friendly meta: one popular thought is to build casually, but play competitively. The thinking behind this is that if you build your deck in a casual way, you won't then be forced to "pull punches" when playing your deck, which can come off as patronizing to your opponents. If you subscribe to this train of thought, then when you're pulling punches during a game (like, with your deck, doing anything with tutors besides assembling your combo as fast as possible), then not everyone is trying to win. And if that's a game that you and your opponents are OK to play, that's great. Just know there is a portion of people who would consider is rude/condescending to play a deck and not try to win.

Edit: post was made on mobile, corrected on desktop.

I’m not sure I understand your question. If I understand you correctly, you have a deck in Grixis colors with an unknown commander, and you’re looking for creatures that sre anti blue? I’m not sure Keranos, Inkwell Leviathan, or any of the other creatures you listed are anti blue.

Akroma, Angel of Fury is in your colors, and has protection from blue. So is Goblin Piledriver but he requires more goblins. Since you’re kind of trying to screw over a particular person you could play True Name Nemesis.

Your list looks good. The biggest issue I would note is that your deck is going to be strong. And while that’s not necessarily a problem, what kind of decks are your friends playing? I saw that you borrowed Myael and Chainer. Your Boonweaver combo deck with tutors would likely obliterate any Mayael or Chainer deck that I’ve ever seen.
