I checked out [Dark Confidant's] price history and he was around $70 before being printed in MM - were there any other cards that expensive that were printed in the set at rare?
Cryptic Command was up there, and printed at rare.
I've heard a lot of talk saying that it's Strictly Better than Combust, as "Rhino isn't the reason you bring in Combust". Personally I disagree, we have no ways to deal with Rhino other than the paths, which we use to deal with other things as well. Against twin it's pretty much the same as Combust, which makes it a bit better, but I think the utility against Rhino makes Combust the better choice.
The only real thing I see that makes the 4C version better is souls, which isn't particularly relevant except to answer opposing souls, and the ability to play crackling doom in the sideboard which I think could just be celestial flare instead. I'm sticking to straight UWR for now.
I also personally feel like a draw-go list is still viable, which is why I'm trying to make it work. I don't think that we gain enough by playing sorceries like souls to make it worth having the dead card in hand when we have to constantly hold up countermagic or removal against twin and abzan.
The only changes so far from my pre-ban list are -2 Dig, -1 Anger of the Gods, +2 Sphinx's Rev, +1 Supreme Verdict.
I like Sphinx's Rev a lot, since it's ridiculously good against the GBx decks that are likely to see a resurgence. It's kinda slow against Affinity and Zoo, though. I'm not sure about cutting Anger for another Verdict, but my main motivation for running Anger was the Pod decks, and now that they're gone I'm not sure there's enough reason to run Anger over Verdict (even with the 3 CMC). Having to hit double red on turn 3 is kinda difficult, and almost impossible to do without paying for a shock, although it could likely be helped with a bit of manabase massaging.
Gideon is really good against Twin (+2, target twin player cannot win the game next turn), but Tarmo-Twin is still a hard matchup from what I've seen.
The sideboard is probably going to have to change a lot. With Pod gone, I don't think the Stony Silences are quite necessary, even with Tron in the format. I'm also considering -1 Combust +1 Celestial Purge, again for the GBx decks (and since Delver is gone, which means Combust isn't quite as good). I still like it in the mirror, though, so it's a hard choice.
I was just wondering what you guys think will happen to the price of a Modern Masters box after Modern Masters 2 comes out (whether 2015 or 2016). Do you think the boxes will keep going up, do you think they'll drop a bit and then keep going up, or do you think they'll tank?
I like the maindeck - perhaps another Thalia would be nice, I'm personally not a fan of Ajani.
I think Krosan Grip is supposed to prevent Ascendancy from going off in response to a removal spell, although I'm not sure how relevant that's going to be. I agree with Kataki over Fracturing Gust, especially since you already have plenty of enchantment hate.
