What do we think about some of the new M15 stuff coming out? So far I think notable includes I might try/add are Return to the Ranks and Spirit Bonds. I feel like there is enough 2 CMC or less creatures to justify using Return to the Ranks and the Spirit Bond card seems neat - also making some of our dudes indestructible seem good.
@troelslmunk: Glad that you're interested in taking a run with Athreos. I would agree that since the meta is filled with counters, it's safe to add tons of discard fodders. The only problem is balancing discards and getting enough wincon to utilized Athreos effectively... some used Thalia, others used Sun Titan and sometimes both.
Give us your insight on making Athreos better.
@Lexie9894: I've used Augur of Skulls. Someone from 'trice suggested that card and it's doing great to me on early turn. Late game, it's a decent blocker and sometimes it's a really really good clamp target.
Landwise, I'm using 37. Even with that, I've also used Wayfarer, Tithe and Land Tax. There are times that I need more lands to add to my hand.
I've also added Kataki and Limited Resources against pesky MW that I've encountered... plus it limits the U's love for counters.
Despite its obvious use Sword of Light and Shadow is a decent card (and to extent having Tutor in my deck). Ophiomancer (and Bitterblossom) is also a decent card for clamp and sac fodder since I recently re-add Contamination. Too bad Orzhov doesn't have any filter or mana dorks.
- I don't know how I feel about running the 2 cmc 1/1's that make an opponent discard a card. I feel like that letting them choose is 'eh' when I could be playing a bigger threat that could make their life total go down faster. The 2 cmc ones that let me choose a card? That is different.
- Need to find a spot for Oversold Cemetery. That card seems good. (I love intervening ifs. :D)
- I feel like this deck shouldn't rely on creatures dying. Athreos gives us a way to punish our opponents for taking away our threats or wrathing our board. There is no need for me to kill my own creatures just so the opponent can get bolted. I want them to have to do it to themselves so they get rid of my threats.
Huh. I never see Mirri like that. I might've test her again.
I've never tested Pact before but I do watch players played it... Bit "eh" most of the time since we relied too much on creatures on the grave rather exiling stuff. For other deck strategy, sure but I don't see it in Athreos.
Hopefully you can find a tech against Oloro. Iroas and Mogis has more fun with Oloro.
I want to try it, the land base isn't too hard and I would love to instant speed find an answer. Or a threat. Really anything. Its super good in decks I've seen it in so I would like to try.
Hey yooooooooooo. Update time from me: Prerelease was yesterday and I opened myself and Athreos!!! It's a sign. Anyway. JOU is up on cockatrice so now I have no excuse to not play on it anymore, haha. I'll be posting my new list soon, as I made some changes. Gonna fix my mana base so I can play Tainted Pact which is pretty easy now that Mana Confluence is a thing.
@Ikaoru As to answer a question you asked earlier in this thread, Mirri the Cursed is awesome!!!!! She's pretty much the best planeswalker killer. Everytime I see her, she's relevant. You played JTMS on turn 4? Well, here's Mirri and it's dead.
Going to post new list when I get home, since I'm on my phone.
@Dust Thanks so much for the input about the deck! It's nice to see what people are doing with it and how they have it built.
That being said, Anax and Cymede is a weird deck for aggro. You have to find a good balance between your creatures and your Heroic trigger spells. The issue I found with early versions of this deck was that I had waaayyyyy to many spells and not enough creatures. The goal isn't to cast a spell targeting Anax and Cymede every turn, it's to use it once or twice to kill your opponent as an overrun. So with the newer version, its more creature heavy instead of being spell heavy.
Skullclamp is fantastic in this deck. It's soooo goooooooood. I love card advantage. Also, I feel like cantrips are a good idea, but that being said, remember that this is an aggro deck and aggro decks need creatures to win - try not to focus on having all instants that target. If you don't have creatures, then it's kind of pointless to have all of those spells in your hand.
@Lexie9894: How's Mirri the Cursed doing for you? She's doing just fine for me to an extent that I have to drop her in my later builds. With my current build, I have to reinclude Linvala after facing so many elves.
I already have Linvala in the list because of the usual Iname matchup I get in our meta. I enjoy Kuro, PitLord not killing my dudes for next to no resources.
Anyway, I have yet to draw Mirri the Cursed in any of my games, which stinks. I want to keep her in until I get her online to see how she does. Hopefully I'll get to play more tonight after my exams.
Hey Ikaoru, I'm just gonna recommend Plunge into Darkness. It's super tech in this deck. Everytime I have had it in my hand, it has done some majorrrr advantage. My favorite is doing it with Tidehollow Sculler or Mesmeric Fiend's trigger on the stack. I've exiled a Kozilek, Butcher of Truth and a Ral Zarek by doing that and being able to dig 3 or so deep for a card, while also making my opponent lightning bolt themselves or let me get the guy back to get another card from their hand.
It's really good in here. I was skeptical when my friends told me to put it in, but man. That card makes advantage town a real thing.
EDIT: Also I have done some changes to my initial build.
Probably going to go through tonight and make some more noncreature cuts for more creatures, since that is what this deck is good at having. I want to get up over 30 creatures I think.
Disciple of Bolas has been pretty good for me so far, and has netted me quite a few cards, but I can see why you would take him out. Im gonna keep testing my build and see how it goes, but I like the guy a lot.
It's always been UW. There was just usually some other color added in before those commanders got banned (Oloro, Derevi, Zur).
Thoughts?
I have actually yet to land Blood Baron of Vizkopa, and I'm also thinking about Obzedat, Ghost Council maybe instead. Who knows, still testing and having fun.

I might think about adding Augur of Skulls. It's kinda like Wrench Mind, but a dude.
Hi there, and I hope you enjoy Athreos, God of Passage as much as I do! I love this deck, even if I'm not a good player. ;P
Anyway. Just a few things I want to mention: I don't run Ravenous Rats, Corrupt Court Official, Black Cat, Chittering Rats, Augur of Skulls or Nezumi Shortfang as I usually want my creatures who discard also be a threat and/or utility. For example, I also run Liliana's Specter and Shrieking Grotesque because after they hit the battlefield they also are a threat on the board and have evasion.
That's just my opinion - how you wanna build your deck is your decision. I hope this helps!
Speaking of - I really should update my decklist. I think I might do that and post it here soon.

Some things I would like to note:
- I would like to add Gerrard's Verdict and/or Cabal Therapy but I don't know what to cut.
- I don't know how I feel about running the 2 cmc 1/1's that make an opponent discard a card. I feel like that letting them choose is 'eh' when I could be playing a bigger threat that could make their life total go down faster. The 2 cmc ones that let me choose a card? That is different.

*insert subliminal message about how good Plunge into Darkness is here*

Probably going to go through tonight and make some more noncreature cuts for more creatures, since that is what this deck is good at having. I want to get up over 30 creatures I think.
Should be 6 rounds, I think.
EDIT: I was missing Phyrexian Revoker, not Accorder Paladin.
