Gotta love magic and especially this set. Can't wait to do a sealed event tomorrow and get my boxes in (hopefully by tomorrow). Plan to draft this with some friends and rip open some foil mana crypts!

Why is it so quiet in this forum? Eternal masters releases super soon! No more magic fans?

    1. We haven't played with it yet, so only so much to say.

    2. Probably a lot of us won't actually play with it much, despite it looking fun. I know I'm planning on doing all of ONE IRL draft, maybe two. And on MTGO, where I do the vast majority of my drafting, I might not do it at all due to the terrible EV of those drafts.

Just very surprising, is there another forum/site that maybe I'm not aware of? I was under the impression that this was THE magic discussion site.

Where is the thread with everyone talking about the cards spoiled thus far? Itching to discuss cube impact and excitement in general.

Excited to pop another box this weekend with some friends and draft it. Hoping for a foil goyf or two!

Just curious, where have you seen the average foil rare/mythic per box at higher than 1.5? I had thought it was only around 1 per box which is what I've seen for the 4 I've opened...exactly one in each box so far.

Pretty cool that after the 10 boxes you opened, the overall average was still above what they are selling for even considering the dip in value on the cards. That is pretty impressive and I'm not sure you can say the same about any other set available at the moment or upon release (besides perhaps Modern Masters 1). The key I think because of that gamble aspect and high variance is that you may not be able to just open one pack or you will most likely lose, but you need to open enough product to hit those big ticket items and get that value.

I have 12 boxes total coming (wasn't going to bother but then ebay had an 8% back deal so figured what the heck?)

First box wasn't anything to write home about, goes to show the overall poor distribution of the set and all or nothing nature of how the set/boxes tend to go...

Foils of note: 1 foil rare/mythic (yes only 1...) Surgical Extraction, Foil Thoughtcast, Foil Frogmite (all the rest of the foils were bulk).
Mythics: Only 2 mythics... Karn Liberated, Primeval Titan
Rares of note (weren't terrible necessarily): Noble Hierarch, Splinter Twin, Leyline of Sanctity, Wilt-Leaf Liege, a few $2 rares, and the rest bulk.
Uncommons of note: 1 Remand, 2 Electrolyze, 1 Lightning Bolt

Overall value of content of box: $150 vs the $180 I paid after the 8% back from eBay. Not exactly spectacular, and there only being 2 mythics and only 1 foil rare really was a bummer, and the quality on many of the foils really was awful (lines/scuffing/etc.) But that was only box 1 of 12, so things should hopefully average themselves out in the end. As far as I'm concerned If I can come out with an average of around $200 per box so I can break even after re-selling fees I will be 100% happy. This is just a little fun for me to have opening something different, expensive as it is.

Considering that you would not get your value back from any new set if you popped a box, I think this special set is beautiful for value per box! If you can get them for $190 or so a box is pretty great value if you pop them. I see these going up in value if kept sealed as well.

Except that the overall average box value is only $196 (as per my update earlier on this page from 10 days ago), and if you are paying $190/box then in general its just better to buy singles you need unless you feel like gambling. In my case I tend to just buy and sell various things, without the fun aspect to magic anymore since I don't really buy anything to keep or use myself. From a profit margin perspective there are much better things than Modern Masters to play around with. However for me, something like a modern masters is unique and different and thusly something that I can buy and open for fun, and if I can end up breaking even after selling cost then hence the "What the heck?" in my last post about going for it. As for the boxes eventually being worth more, in 6-months to a year I could see it, but it wont be anything like the original modern masters which had a smaller print run and was much more balanced overall. This set is too top heavy, which leads to much more swingy box values, even moreso when you end up getting less mythics or foil rares than the expected overall average per box.

Inevitably if I was a player and I was looking to get cards I wanted, I would, at this point, just buy the cards I needed with that $190 rather than gamble with a box that I might break even on, and even then would end up with a bunch of stuff I wouldn't need amid a couple cards here or there that I might be able to make use of. For now I still recommend just buying singles rather than busting boxes (unless you can get the boxes for super cheap) or you plan to draft the set with friends.

As of now you can get boxes as low as $190 shipped on ebay (or at the very least 2x boxes for $380), the market is still flooded with boxes/cases/etc at this point, and demand really isn't strong enough to cause it to rise up nearly as much as the original modern masters did. I expect within a year we might see the boxes recover back to msrp or possibly a tiny bit higher on places like ebay, in the meantime I expect to see the boxes remain around the $190 price point on the low end on ebay buy it nows and could even drop a little lower, but we'll have to wait and see.

And as for the standard box comparison, you can often find standard boxes for between $80-$90 online depending upon the set, and in many cases the overall average box value for those is at or very close to those costs, so modern masters itself isn't really anything special from a value standpoint vs. the cost of the boxes. That's also why, except for the rare exception like early strong values that KTK had when it came out, I don't tend to bother buying boxes anymore, just isn't enough value to bother. Once again Modern Masters 2015 here being an exception to my rule because Its different and fun and with any luck things should average themselves out and after fees to sell, I should break even, which is fine enough for things I am opening for fun vs. solely for buying to sell and make a profit.

It absolutely all depends on what you want to do with it. I think the swingy aspect of it coupled with the big time value bomb cards will make this very valuable as a sealed box within a few years. In that way, I think it's a great investment. I only draft now-a-days because I think it's awesome, so while I love popping boxes/packs whenever possible, I also don't really keep anything as it is useless to me aside from monetary value. To have an average box value above the prices for the boxes seems amazing. I find it hard to believe that new set boxes such as Dragons of Tarkir, etc. have on average $80 to $90 per box in value if opened, but I could be wrong there as I don't follow such things too closely.

I think long term these will be extremely valuable if kept sealed due to their relatively limited print run and fun draft environment with the ability to pull great, valuable cards. It will remain to be seen what happens though!

After 4 boxes, popped my first Comet Storm. Very disheartening BUT the box itself was still a winner with foil kiki jiki, foil cryptic command, dark confidant, vendilion clique, fulminator mage, Ulamog, etc.

Anyone heard anything about whether the print run is still going strong or not?

Prices on boxes/cases are plummeting, and the boxes are going unsold. Very interesting to see boxes just sitting at $204 on ebay without selling like hotcakes. I've heard from several sources that distributors are no longer able to order more from Wizards and that the stock is exhausted and what is out there is all that is left. Whether that's true or not, there is seemingly a LOT still out there and people are slashing prices out of panic and still no takers.

I think the sweet spot is $185 to $190. If you can get boxes at that price then gobble them up. There's no doubt in my mind that the price will jump back up once the availability really is low, but for now that is definitely not the case! Anyway, it is interesting to see this all unfold.

There do seem to be a large amount of boxes for sale with little to no buyers. Boxes at $204 are actually not even being sold. While there are still higher dollar amount purchases. They are pushing under $200. I'm not so sure about the $185 price. After a $40 drop in price from $240 msrp with few buyers. Not many people are buying at $200. Would another $15 less be all that enticing? I think it's going to have to drop really close to the card shop purchase price to sell well. I think that's about $140. I wonder how close to that price point it can get. I think $170, but unless you are drafting it then it's still not worth buying just to open packs. It's fun to open packs but ugh...I couldn't deal with getting a comet storm. I would buy in at $150 for a sealed box. That's about the msrp of a regular booster box with 36 packs. This set really needed to have 36 packs. I just don't get why wizards didn't fix that. We can read, there are many informed people around us at card shops, and on the internet. No one is going to think that this product is standard legal. At least that is the reason they gave us last time they made this a 24 pack box. There are a huge amount of these MM 2015 boxes available. Ask for a lower price, you won't be as sad when you only open about $100 worth of cards. I wonder how many failure stories to success stories there are with these boxes. 3 fail to 1 win?

Eh, I think there are too many high priced cards that WILL bounce back for it to drop too much lower. I think $160 is a pipe dream for this. It depends also on how truly "limited" the print run was. As for right now, the market seems to be saturated and no one is eagerly snatching up boxes at $200 per, but I believe there are enough speculators out there that if it drops to $175 to $180 they will be snatched up. I can speak for myself as well that I would buy up every box available at $180 since I believe that is a fantastic deal. $190 is just on the cusp but I'm hoping it can drop lower so we can enjoy the product at a more reasonable price point.

If you can get boxes for $170 you should mortgage your life to buy out everything available.

I bought for $210 and thought that was an amazing deal. Both boxes I've opened so far were worth $300+ in money rares/mythics/foils. This set is fantastic value, especially when compared to other sets.

Ya i may pick another up. After looking at the prices of these cards on ebay... it would be hard to make back money unless i pull a foil tarm.. or a regular one with some other good picks.

Bought all my boxes for around $210 a box and have had no problem obliterating that value with each box I've opened so far (3 and counting).

I'm telling my customers to look at MM15 like this: If you wanted to buy an OOP booster box of something like Zendikar, Innistrad, etc you'd be paying in excess of the current price of an MM15 box, and there's never been a set with so many great cards in it. People are a little nuts (ok, spoiled) right now because the product is new and available. When the dust settles SOON & the product is no longer being printed this will be the product to have, no brainer. Once dealers have to pay the retail price to get them, they will only go up.

This. A lot of this. This set is bonkers when considered next to other sets, and in a year people will wish they had bought it for $220.
