Many a game I've seen effectively end turn one. White source, Quest, Memnites and Ornithopters setting up Argentum Armor. It's not an instant win even if you get the nut draw but that ms hard to gain footing against... 6+/7+ creature destroying a land or anything when it swings each turn.
FIVE creatures, free equipment means open mana for removal or more creatures, Caw-Blade is a thing, and that's my very cut short RE-reply after my browser just refreshed before I could hit send... -_-
As for the Student mana base question. I would build a white base and add the minimum number of red sources to hit your burn spells and such. Maximize your fetches and dual lands to hit whichever on demand.
I don't think we can use it as much... It's a later game kinda thing. You HAVE to pump it to hit... You have to hit to trigger... And you have to actually have something on the top(wether one or two cards). You still have to pay for the spells. If you played a land that turn you lose them(but frankly you moved them out if your way). Most of all you need to hit the COSTS of those spells. We NEED to hit double reds and double whites or a mix... We don't run many lands to start with. IDK. I'm not impressed. It's more a midrange//combo to gain more card advantage. If we run more lands we need to run bigger spells to take advantage of the mana, like Thundermaw. If we flip a Thindermaw and can't cast it... It's like a Bonfire the turn after anothe board wipe already cleared everything... I guess I just feel that's a WHOLE other deck to build around.
But we keep talking in terms of a late game... I feel turning up the boost and hitting a faster clock is more powerful! Yes I run three AV's in my current build(nicely each shiny and the three different arts) but if I planned to finish things up quick? ACotP drops turn three, we hit a landfall trigger or two on our lynx/Geopede or maybe a 4/4 Grunt and HULK SMASH!!! Especially if we find Iroas any good to follow to turn four! I just run a really tight mana base and like the ORIGINAL 04/05' Type 1 Boros that was Helix and Lions and 18 lands and legionnaire and Grimmie's and yeah...
I wish StP was Modern legal... But Path works great. I guess I like my removal and aggressive creatures to do most of the work. Without trickery(I miss SFM) swords are so slow... Potent and worth a slot, but slow.
Right now I am starting to reorganize all of my Boros designated cards. I tend to have immense "extended sideboards" of construction materials to work with. Moonfolk, Affinity, wacky other contraptions all end up with some 30-60 extra "maybe" cards. Boros has a couple hundred. >:D So a full reevaluation is in order, along with refunding some missing things... Probably some missing burn that is sitting with UR Mindmoil combo stuff.
Elspeth is a BEAST!!! Gideon is a bomb but might be too slow to make an impact. Sunforger is costly... I ran it in standard. For Banefire, are you gonna be able to hit 6 mana to make it effective? Hellbent Demons Fire or Molten Disaster or something? Ajani is just good but Caller of the Pride seems better in some cases.
Has anyone given thought and test to Izzet Guildmage? I've always wanted to... Then again I have a note on my phone with basically a spell copying...
Ajani vs Iroas builds will likely be very different. Iroas wants to see as many creatures as possible. Ajani is looking to control the board and snipe remaining points.
Speaking of Reckoner, I know the primer hasn't had an update, but I really don't see many mentions of him?! Yes he's not a game finisher and suited well in the speedy midrange variants than the full aggro, but we run board wipes like Volcanic Fallout... Or others... And on the topic of picking meta choices, how are match ups where we see white and/or blue? I.E. UW control/midrange, Sisters, mono blue, other such decks? Ignite Disorder seems a good choice, no? Combust was big in the day of Standard against Soul Sisters and pesky blue duders. Snapcasters and many a fairy go POP rather well in response to it!
Dot's got it right. Early and hard pressure that they HAVE to deal with! Part of why I still feel Zo-Zu needs a comeback from the days of yesterday's of 04/05' Type 2!

I love big butts and I can not lie!
