thanks a lot to both of you, I'll look into Abzan midrange and Temur aggro (kinda liked Kibler's list from the GP).

Ok thanks a lot, what about aggro/midrange deck? I saw earlier today the replay of the Naya midrange at the SCG tournament but couldn't find any list nor any good topic related, is there anything else better than that (which I guess there is)

Hello Everyone, I have a little question. I have been away from magic for about a year but ... well ... I can't stop playing, so I would like to start again but I don't know what to play. I'm more of a control player, so I would lean towards that type of deck. What are the best control deck out there for the moment? I'm ready to invest as I also was a legacy player and I'm thinking about starting legacy again (which means I'll buy the fetches anyway).

thanks a lot for your help

Hello everyone, I've had to stop Magic several months ago and I want to start again next month, I, as always, want to play combo and I'm asking myself what is the most "stock" list and "safe" list to start practicing again

    Thanks a lot!!

If Melira Pod gains infinite life, the only way you can really win is if you're running the infinite combo with Noxius Revival.

I'm playing this deck for a two weeks now, and I'ld like to know what combo you're speaking about. also what is the build playing Noxius Revival?

Finally a real post I can work with. I'm just going to go over a bunch of stuff that are blue-based control/combo decks and you can decide which one you'd like to play. Just remember to go surf the forums for the primer topics for whichever decks you find interesting.

In control, we have UW Control, UW Tempo Control, UW Tron, 4cc Gifts Control, Teachings / Wafo-Tapa Draw Go.

UW Control and UW Tempo differ from just a few cards, so we'll discuss them together. They're basically a stock UW Control, you've got counters (Remand, Cryptic, Spell Snare), removal (Path), and general control creatures like Snapcaster and Clique. They quite often play Geist just because he's so good in the format. Some of them go for Restoration Angel, some go for Delver, it's all personal preference. Delver tends to end up more mid-range. They normally don't MB Wrath effects.

UW Tron is my pet deck and I will always recommend it where I can. It runs Urza Tron lands with Emrakul as a win condition. It's also got Gifts Ungiven for the combo, so you take only two cards, get both in the grave, and they happen to be a big creature and a reanimation spell (Unburial Rites). It runs a lot of standard control cards like Remand, Path, and Wrath effects. One of the best parts is being able to run Thirst for Knowledge, that card is sweet. This deck is much closer to a traditional draw go deck since it's running very few creatures and just trying to get to a win condition first. Definitely come check it out in the primer.

4cc Gifts Control is much like UW Tron with the Gifts combo, except they're more combo oriented. They play more cards like UW Control, so Snapcaster, Deathrite Shaman, Liliana. It's normally WUBG so you're basically playing a mix of UW Tron and UW Control if they both added BG to the deck. You get access to stuff like Liliana, Deathrite Shaman, Raven's Crime, Thoughtseize, and Loam.

Teachings is always around but never really puts up results. It's only playing like a copy or two of Snapcasters and then the rest are literally spells. It's trying to grind out with Electrolyze, Helix, Bolt, etc. It often plays something big like White Sun's Zenith or Entreat the Angels. I've never been a fan of it but I'll point it out, maybe it's your cup of tea. The Wafo-Tapa version is much the same to be perfectly honest.

There are some more midrange type decks like UWR Midrange, but you don't seem to want to play that so I'll leave that one aside. As much as I like UW Tron as a deck and think it's underrated, UWR Midrange is better than all of these decks right now, in my opinion.

In combo, we have Twin, Kiki-Pod, Storm, and Scapeshift.

Twin is using Splinter Twin and Kiki-Jiki with some creature like Pestermite or Deceiver Exarch to make infinite tokens with haste. It's pretty straight forward, you play a lot of cantrips and general cards like Bolt and Remand. Some lists go heavy combo, others go for more of a control shell with Snapcasters and Bolts. Some newer lists have been splashing white for Restoration Angel, though straight UR is still a perfectly fine deck.

Kiki-Pod is basically a RWG deck splashing blue. It's significantly less blue than the rest of the decks listed. It's basically a deck using Kiki-Jiki again to facilitate the same type of combo as Twin, except it has green now to play Birthing Pod. You use creature advantage to get quick combo wins. I think the other version of Pod is better, but this one is better in your colours.

Storm is pretty self explanatory, cast a billion spells and play something with Storm and win. Storm's not all that powerful right now since they banned one important card to it, but apparently Jon Finkel things otherwise since he top 16'd an event with it. I wouldn't go for Storm unless you absolutely love the deck and are willing to put the time in to learn the deck and the format. It's much more difficult to play and you have to be absolutely sure of what you're doing to play it correctly.

Lastly is Scapeshift. It's the only RUG deck listed and it uses Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle and Scapeshift to combo a win. Just grab all your Valakuts and Mountains from Scapeshift and gg. Plays Prismatic Omen to make things easier sometimes. Plays general control cards like Remand and Cryptic, as well as cards like Serum Visions, Sakura Tribe-Elder, Farseek, and Izzet Charm.

Hopefully there's something in there that you fancy and you can jump into the format.

thanks for your answer! I've been out for a couple of days and didn't see it until now Grin I watched and I am interested by UW tron and Storm (I always loved storm in any format) so I might pick both ^^

thanks a lot for your comment!

i really want to enter in modern and I've been looking into different archetypes, and this one seems really interesting for me, what do you think are the chance of a deck like this in a large event, like a PTQ or a GP?
and what is the "standard" list for the moment?
I'm sorry I haven't read the topic yet, I'm going to do it really soon Smile

I'm building the list, or would like to at least, I'm starting to collect some pieces here and there, I found on mtgtop8 this list :

what do you guys think about it? would you play Voice of R. in that type of build? what would you change in it? (is it a standard type of list?)

I'm sorry I haven't read the thread yet, but I'm going to do it soon Smile (the goal is to go to a GP in some months :D)

Favorite Playstyle (Aggro, Midrange, Control, Combo): In order: Control = Combo, Aggro, Midrange

How Competitive: Local tournament and GP (one in my country in Octobre)

Favorite Cards // Colors: Card: ... // Color: Blue,Green, Red (in order)

Budget: Doesn't matter. Want to get into Modern at any cost.

Staples Owned: Some Ravlands, but not a lot, I sold pretty much all I had and I really want to focus on one deck.

What can you guys advice me to play?

    thanks a lot!

Here is what I'm working on for the moment :

I feel like we are a little be light on creatures as we want as much slivers as we can with Descendants' Path, even more on 1 drops, but I didn't want to get too high on the curve as I want to keep it an aggro deck and not some kind of midrange thing.

what do you guys think of that? I would like to have as much ideas as I can Smile

Hello! I'm wanting to start Standard again after a long break, and I've been looking for a list to play, so here I am, I really love BUG colours, I just have some questions about Fooly Cooly's list :

as I'm not used to BUG lists, but why do you play most of the creatures as 1 of? How is Notion Thief? and aren't you missing Snappy in your list?

    Thanks a lot!

If they just cascaded into it, how would you counter it?

cascade say you can cast the cascaded spell without paying its mana cost, which is still a cast, so you can counter it. for exemple if a player plays a BBE and cascades into a Tarmo, you can decide which one of both you want to counter (or counter both, or none)
