Hey there, Just popping in, wanted to share the list I've been bringing to my local modern tournaments. It is partial budget due to the fact that I have slowly been building BW, I've really come a long way since my days of 3-colour tap lands. Here's what I run:
Lili is awesome, she stays.
But otherwise, I'd like guidance in which unorthodox choices in my deck are truly bad.
Thanks in advance to the pro that helps me out.
Let's get ESPER to Established!!!!!!
(Just wanted to add the fact that my main rival is a hardcore RW Burn Player, so I take great pride in my counterspells and sideboard Spell Snares)
Favorite Playstyle: Midrange/Light Combo(Flicker!)
How Competitive:Local Tournament/For Fun
Favorite Cards/Colors: http://oi62.tinypic.com/azidzb.jpg, A quick link to the cards I hope to Include in my deck. I really like Black and White.
Budget: I'll drop maybe 100 dollars more to support the cards shown above(Lands are additional cost based on what can be advised by those who seek to aide me). If I am very satisfied with the recommendations I receive, I will continue to expand the value I place in the deck.

So, I very much enjoy following the Dega discussion that takes place within this thread and alongside some contributors, I look forward to Athreos, God of Passage making his way into the format.
The Deck I have posted here is what I bring to my friendly neighbourhood events regardless if they are casual or competitive. I see it as appropriate to assume that my deck is differentiating from the typical build, yet enjoyment is what I care for. Despite holding fun as the goal, I would like to request that a passing contributor would recommend possible improvements or colourful innovation for my deck.
Is it possible to begin using Birds of Paradise as a sub for mana-accel? My personal junk build has always been on the aggro side, so birds might benefit from cards such as Sword of War and Peace and its brothers. Bitterblossom is definitely getting added to my list alongside the existing Lingering Souls (Let's brake out the wallet). I'm just fishing for some advice about card options for the updated version of a heavier aggro junk shell. Yes Kitchen Finks will be added. The general goal is to drop turn 2 Doran, the Siege Tower or Loxodon Smiter and prepare to smash face! Rest in PeaceDeathrite Shaman (Hint; Find the Joke)
@ Magix and Silver Swarm Queen
Don't be alarmed due to the lack of fetches, sure they would make my deck many times more efficent though.
The cards here I don't currently own are 1 KotR, the Dorans, Abrupt Decay, Murmuring Bosk and Tectonic Edge. I'm ordering them tonite, but before I do, I hope that you could quickly review this and recommend some replacements or improvements. Aside from this I'm picking up Elesh Norn for funzies.
Despite the hand distruption spells being budget, I believe my offensive field of Bladehold + Lingering Souls + Rancor fills the gap.
Magix/SSQ you've been a great help for a player trying to enter the comepetitive scene. Thank you for your help once again!
Ashling costs too much to do too little. Its effect only matters if it connects with your opponent, and its mana cost is not synergystic with Confidant.
Murmuring bosk has the problem of dealing us more life points of damage when we're already taking a ton from Thought Seize, shocks, fetches, and Confidants, and still being weak to blood moon.
Vorapede is again too expensive, and it can be removed too easily. Batterskull would be much better if you insist on a five drop.
Hero of Bladehold can be quite good. While she dies to a fair amount of common removal, if she sticks, she can win the game by herself. Of course, the problem is getting her to stick, and because she costs 4 mana, it's hard to justify her in conjunction with confidant for her effect. Usable, but probably not competitively viable, unless you're going for more of a swarm strategy.
Thrun can actually be pretty great in this deck. He's hard for most decks to deal with as he can be regenerated, can't be countered, and can't be targeted by them. In addition, he carries swords, and auras like a boss, so he's a decent maindeck choice if that's relevant enough to you.
Raven's crime I would only suggest if you're doing a life from the loam package.
Rancors are a maybe. I'm not sure on their viability myself.
Thanks for reinstating my opinion of the cards I listed. My local meta is heavy aggro based, ranging from vamps to heavy boros swing team.
Raven's Crime definitely does work, reminding me about loam was an appreciated service. So if I were to run 4 loam, should I be building into Bloodghast or possibly Vengvine? To counter my meta I run Rancors so Thrun can go head to head with a majority of creatures 6 power and under. I've been really inconsistent with what I'm saying, so I'll have decklist up later today to give you a feel of what I want to achieve. Thank you for your time.
So I haven't been to standard in a long time, I recently drafted a Return to Ravnica Booster Box with some friends and received positive rewards. Here is the deck I brewed up for the next FMN. Please advise on how to create changes which would increase its strength yet still keep its fun playstyle. Please and thank you!
Phyrexian Obliterator works well in pod, you can push for multiple of them in a few turns creating a large problem for the opponent while your other creatures back them up. I don't see why everyone is disappointed in his death to removal, just make good use of him during his life or place other cards down in the mean time.

For Fatties, my god, Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite.

The synopsis is that early game control is sprung from Lightning Bolt, Path to Exile and Tidehollow Sculler. Whilst the rest of the deck can see Rakdos, Lord of Riots descending upon the battlefield alongside Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite (My Favourite Fatty) or Wurmcoil Engine. It's just a simple midrange plan.
Land Explanation: I won't pay for better lands, when I pull or trade for Shocks, so be it.
Additionally, I will picking up some more Path to Exile later. Thanks for anyone's help
