So I've been playing Magic for around a year now and ever since I've started I've had a problem where I'd either use 4 of a card, or 2 of a card. Something to do with my OCD. I think I just need the pros and cons of using 1 or 3 cards spelled out to me. It's also why I have a problem with my 15 card sideboard... Anyway, I know this is holding me back as a player so any help on the topic would be greatly appreciated.
Hopeful, when paired with Ethereal Armors, is arguably better than Favored Hopelite. The boosted Hopeful can net you a great deal of life, and bestowing it on a late-game draw is nice.

T1: Hopeful Eidolon (Favored Hopelite, Nyxbox Rollicker, Nyxborn Shieldmate)
T2: Ethereal Armor + Ethereal Armor = 7/7 First Strike
T3: Ajani, Caller of the Pride -or- Gods Willing+Boros Charm if you're w/r.
I really don't understand why so many people run Hopeful Eidolon. It just doesn't seem like enough value in a card. The 4 mana bestow just for 1/1 and lifelink seems pretty meh.
I'm actually building a mono white heroic deck for Born of the Gods and I'm gonna take it to the opening FNM. It's going to focus more on using enchantments to power up creatures. For one, Hero of Iroas reduces the casting cost of bestow so it improves Nyxborn Shieldmate and Chosen by Heliod. The other synergy is with Etheral Armor and Nyxborn Shieldmate, seeing as how the shieldmate counts as an enchantment you can get +2/+2 just by sticking it on the shieldmate. I've yet to set up the sideboard but I think this deck has potential.
It's a promotional item, wizards isn't "pandering to the wealthier players". They don't make any money off of the secondary market at all. You can play the normal version the same as the promo, so I don't see why there are so many complaints, it's not like exclusive promos are new to cards.
Why do people keep thinking that it's black on black art?
The card on the right is just the foil pattern on the card. That's not how it's actually going to look like, there will be color and junk.
I've recently put this deck together and am going to try it out at my local FNM soon. The sideboard isn't complete yet, but any suggestions for it would be welcome.
I'm still rather new to control, let alone tempo. I've yet to touch the sideboard, but this is what I've been working with recently. Any tips on how to improve / modify this deck would be appreciated.

good move sir. GoST could also be a fit here since you have access to both U and boros charm. an indestructible GoST and an angel paired with silverblade swinging..?sweeeeeeeeeet~
I know Geist would be amazing in here... but I really don't want to drop $100 for a playset x_x
I actually did remove the spell rupture, they aren't aggro enough. I would often draw them when I just needed more damage. I decided to switch them out for Searing Spear.
spell rupture is just bad especially against a control which runs heavy board wipe, tis basically a dead card when drawn without any creature on the field, or could be just an expensive force spike..negate would be a lot better since it counters walkers, bonfires, sphinx revs, terminus and rakdos's return. no thalia even in SB..?lack of first strike creatures means unable to block properly without needing to trade. would also prefer daring skyjek in MD if battalion effect is needed since it provides evasion, the 2 toughness of wojek is irrelevant against rolling tremblor. deck also does not seem to have enough threat post verdict wipe.
Spell rupture is almost always good for me. I run more than enough creatures to make it work well. I'd rather have it over negate because I can counter some scary creatures that would otherwise knock me off the game. As for the Skyjek over the halberdiers I agree there, I'll have to change that out. For Thalia, I think I will try her out in here. For the post wipe threat, I might side in some Boros Charms to prevent the wipe at all.
I like it. I wet to FNM the other day playing this deck and a human deck that is the only one that beat me. i dont know the name of the card. but put in that one human that when it dies you get a spirt. it works well with the battalion effect or whatever. switch it for the one drop bird
Doomed traveler isn't really aggro worthy, war falcon brings in more damage, and evasion to boot. I don't really get much out of the traveler.
This is human aggro with a slight control twist. The objective is to just tempo ahead of the opponent with cards like Lyev Skyknight, and Azorious Arrester, then proceed to swing at their face before they get a chance to react. Spell Rupture is in there to act as a Mana Leak of sorts, giving me the time that I need against the midrange decks for the win.
It seems pretty strong in testing, anyone got any thoughts, or advice maybe?
Below is an example of my main deck right now.
4 Sacred Foundry
4 Temple of Triumph
8 Plains
4 Mountain
Creature: 22
4 Nyxborn Shieldmate
4 Nyxborn Rollicker
4 Hero of Iroas
4 Phalanx Leader
4 Fabled Hero
2 Eidolon of Countless Battles
4 Ethereal Armor
4 Ordeal of Purphoros
4 Gods Willing
4 Boros Charm
2 Ajani, Caller of the Pride
Yes, I agree that it's better when paired with Ethereal Armors, but other than that I would pick Nyxborn Shieldmate and Favored Hoplite any other time. It just doesn't seem worth running just for the Ethereal Armor synergy.
22 Plains
Creature: 20
4 Nyxborn Shieldmate
4 Favored Hoplite
4 Hero of Iroas
4 Phalanx Leader
4 Fabled Hero
4 Etheral Armor
4 Chosen by Heliod
Instant: 12
4 God's Willing
4 Brave the Elements
2 Dauntless Onslaught
I read the article, but I the image looks pretty much like the ones in this article.
http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/arcana/1177
So it pretty much looks like a foil pattern, so I feel like the article might be misinformed. We'll just have to wait and see.
