Feb 19, 2018Look what happened at the SCG Open this weekend!Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
Big ups to Landon Savino for playing this to 17th place this weekend.
Feb 9, 2018As for Leyline of the Void vsRest in Peace I would go with Leyline. RiP removes our Lingering Souls and that's why I go with it.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
Also I went to a small local even yesterday with the changes I posted above. I found that Sorin, Lord of Innistrad, Sorin, Solemn Visitor, and Elspeth, Knight-Errant are awesome. That was 100% the right call on my part. They was great every time I seen them show up.
As for my matches, was a little disappointed. I'll do a quick over view.
Round 1: vs GW Value Town: Win- I don't think my opponent ever really got off the ground. Both games I had Fatal Push and Path to Exile and just took over the game with Plains Walkers and Tokens. One time he got about 3 dudes on the board and I had a Damnation to clean them all away.
If you was watching it seemed almost unfair.
Round 2: vs Eldrazi Tron: Loss- This always seems to be the hardest match. I squeaked out a win in one game. But then he was able to over run me the other games. This is always bad for me when play testing this match as well.
Round 3: vs Red/White Control (Sun&Moon): Win- Most of the cards in there hand was dead cards. They don't really have a way to deal with plainswalkers, kind of a easy win. In the Sideboard you bring in ways to deal with ensnaring bridge and the rest was easy.
Round 4: vs Humans : Loss- this was the disappointing part of the night. Our deck has every answer for this match, but first game I got to 3 mana and never seemed to be able to draw 4th for my Wrath of God effects. Game 2 I was able to hold him off at the start, played some Plainswalkers to slow him down, then never drew a wrath. Thats just the luck sometimes in the this game.
Over all still happy with the deck but I had a 2-2 end to the night.
Feb 6, 2018With out going into the numbers I think now that I am going down 1 of my 2 five mana drops, I can go down to 23 lands and be okay.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
If I find that I am getting Ob Nixilis Reignited in my hand and not getting the 5th land to cast him I will change it up.
Quote from Chantu9Y »Keep me posted on how testing is going! Would love to collaborate with people on this deck!
100% agree. I think this deck can be something amazing. Needs a little tuning and playing around with the cards.
Feb 6, 2018After watching the Pro Tour I am wanting to start testing around with the deck again as well. I kind of put it on the shelf for a while after GP OKC.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
Here is what I played at the time:
A few things I learned, Liliana of the Veil is awesome, Liliana, the Last Hope is good, but I could never say she won me a game either. Gideon Jura never really did alot for me.
So I think I'm going to make the following changes.
I'v but in some thought on Sorin, Grim Nemesis and Elspeth, Sun's Champion and don't know if 1 is really needed. But I like the idea of both.
Going to make these changes and see how it plays.
Feb 2, 2018Original thread discussion/talk can be found here.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
Hope with further discussion and tuning this deck can really take off. I loved playing it at GP Oklahoma City!
Jan 11, 2018Hello all,Posted in: Midrange
I first time poster in this thread. I am going to SCG Dallas and I'm planing on taking Jund with me to play as the Legacy player for our team.
I wanted to talk about side boards in the new meta, what we should really have or not have. And also, Blood Sun something we could use vs. Lands?
Jan 10, 2018Posted in: MidrangeQuote from smoresnbacon »Gerard Fabiano just posted a BUG Midrange list that he ran through a competitive modern league.
Haven't had a chance to watch it yet, but I'm sure it's great content we could all use, from the BUG master himself so I figured I'd post it here. As I watch, I might try to call out important lines of play and timestamp them below. In the meantime, enjoy!
I just watched it and enjoyed the video. But one thing I watched him keep doing, is bringing in Ashiok in almost every match, and never used Bitterblossom.
I think I might try this list but making that switch.
Jan 2, 2018Has any one thought about a more Plainswalker, Super Friends build?Posted in: Midrange
Here is something I just threw together. I think it is 66 cards. But I'm just spit balling here to see what might be good.
Dec 11, 2017I was at the GP Oklahoma City this weekend. I went 4-4 drop.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
In retrospect I still feel like the deck is very powerful. I got really screwed in the 8th round giving me my 4th loss. He was playing Humans (was giddy with glee when I seen what he was playing) and I got stuck on 3 lands with 2 Damnation in my hand in the 3rd game. Even the guy I played said "I have no business beating that deck". I agree sir... I agree...
Here is the deck list I settled on.
Round 1: 0-2 vs Lantern control. Not much to say here. Its Lantern control and it sucks. Game 2: I brought in the 1 Collective Brutality 1 Disenchant 1 Anguished Unmaking 1 Oblivion Ring, and opening hand he Thoughtseize one out of my hand, then Lantern came down and he was able to shread the rest off my deck the rest of the game. Hate that deck.
Round 2: 2-1 vs Burn: We have a great match up vs Burn. Kill any of there little dudes, then use Gideon of the Trils to tick up 1 time making him 4 counters. SO they need to use 2 burn spells on it. Or you just win. And if they do use 2 burn spells to kill him, then you are given 2 turns it feels like to come back in the match. I had no problems. Good match up.
Round 3: 2-0 Jund: This was another good game for us. We can kill any of there treats even if they do Thoughtseize us. Was a easy round.
Round 4: 2-0 vs Burn: Same as round 2. Easy stuff.
Round 5: 0-1-1 vs. GW Value town: This was just grindy match that seemed like no end. He had the Azusa, Lost but Seeking, Ramunap Excavator, Courser of Kruphix, combo on me both games. I could Wrath of God and he god stuff back with CC and the grind started again. Was really long match.
Round 6: 0-2 vs Blue/Black Faeries: I had never played agenst Faeries before. This was odd and even after a Inquisition of Kozilek he still got out Bitterblossom turn 2 both games and he had the counters in Remand and some flash faeries that could counter, and he out lasted me.
Round 7: 2-0 vs. Eldrazi Tron: This was the most wierd match of the night. I normal have a bad match vs E. Tron. BUT!... The man that was my opponent, came to the table MAD! Like PISSED OFF! MADDDDD!!!! I dont know what happend, I got to the table early and was just talking with the guys around and we was joking and laughing, you know just having fun. When he got there I asked "Hi how are you?" He replyed "Not good" In a very angry tone.
While he got setup I talked with the guys around and then he still looked so mad when he sat down I said "Hey man, you okay?" he said "no not at all" after that I just left him alone.
As for the match every thing went my way, nothing he did mattered much. I won both games kind of easy witch is very weird for me vs this deck.
After we was done and packing up out stuff he just started cursing and very loud about being angry over losing and "How once I would like to make a God Damn day two, and his ******* deck to work just once." as he was walking away. Super odd.
Round 8: vs Humans: Game one goes as you would think, I killed every thing. He was surprised by a main deck Damnation and I just rolled him over.
2nd game I had a clunky hand he got the PERFECT hand and he won. no big deal. 3rd game, I had some removal, 1 Swamp, 1 Godless Shine, and 1 Damnation, and 1 Gideon of the Trials. All I had to do was draw land and win......
I drew a Tectonic Edge and then never seen another land the rest of the game. I was able to hold him off for turn with Fatal Push and Patch to Exile, but he kept come back with more dudes. I even drew the 2nd Damnation. But no land to cast it. Before the last turn for him to win he cast a Kitesail Freebooter and seen my hand and was in shock. "Oh man now I see whats going on, I thought you was trying to slow roll me" No sir... my deck just didn't want to work all of a sudden. After the match he said "sorry man, I had no business beating that deck".
That's the way magic goes some times. That's my report. I still think the deck is really good. There is something here in this type of deck. I know I don't have the best 75 cards. But something to work off of and make better.
Nov 12, 2017Sorry, had not posted in a while. Have not been able to goto some events in about a week.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
Was at one last night and my results was a little disappointing just because I seen Eldrazi Tron 3 times.
R1: 2-0 vs. Affinity
R2: 0-2 vs. Eldrazi Tron
R3: 1-2 vs. Eldrazi Tron
R4: 2-1 vs. Mono Green Stompy
R5: 0-2 vs. Eldrazi Tron
R6: 2-1 vs. Mono White Death and Taxes agro
After everything was done I knew one of the Eldrazi Tron players we we played a few more games for fun, and I lost 2-0 Eldrazi Tron again in a fun game.
It is kind of frustrating because I know this deck is good. But is I have no game vs Eldrazi Tron then.... Man, I don't know what I'm going to play in GP Oklahoma in a few weeks.
My deck is as follows from last night.
Oct 29, 2017Weird, it didn't give me a reply ether for this thread. I will need to check it more myself.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
@deaddrift I love how your doing good with the deck. Have you played vs. Eldrazi Tron? What are your match ups like on it? I see you lost to Bant Eldrazi but looks like you got screwed on it.
Oct 26, 2017Went to a local game store and played resoltes is as follows:Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
2-0 Green Black delirium deck trying to cast Emrakul, the Promised End it was a home brew but was able to get around it.
0-2 Eldrazi Tron: I need to find better sideboard for this deck. I played well. But Eldrazi Tron is really good.
1-2 Mono Red Goblins: 1 game I drew 2 lands and nothing else and he over powered me. 2nd game I had my way with him. 3rd game I drew all none basic lands, no basics, no fetch lands to get a basic, and he played Blood Moon and shut me down so hard. I could not believe it.
Really think I just to work on the sideboard at this point.
Oct 25, 2017Hello all, I'v been thinking about a good Black White Plainswalker control deck and played around with some lists very similar to yours on my own.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
I was kind of excited to find this thread when looking around to maybe get some good ideas and feed back.
I am going to GP Oklahoma City in about a 6 weeks, and since I have been playing around with this for a while I'm leaning to use this deck.
I seen that Frank Lepore put up a video of some games with his list. www.channelfireball.com/videos/modern-monday-bw-control
And then seen this list go 5-0 on MTGO yesterday. www.decks.tcgplayer.com/magic/modern/inspectorgadget/w-b-control/1294945
I put together a list last night and played online.
I thought to use/try out the Thalia's Lancers because of the new legend rule it is a 4/4 FirstStrike AND a tutor for any Plainswalker you need at the time.
2-1 vs. a Blue based Affinity deck
2-1 vs. normal Affinity
2-1 vs. Grixis Death's Shadow
2-1 vs. Mono White Death and Taxes
2-0 vs. Green/White Todd Stephens Good Stuff deck.
So I felt really good about the deck. I think the Thalia's lancers and Ob Nixilis Reignited was MVP's every time they showed up.
Let me know what you guys think. Lets keep the discussion going.
