Wait does reconnaissance actually work to essentially give vigilance? I was running it just to not die in combat.

I run Edgar and I will definitely try some of these cards out. A few suggestions from my version.

Cathars' crusade - A win more card at first glance, but its deceptively easy to be insane with even just two vampires being cast because of how the triggers play out.

necropolis regent - Again might seem like a win more, but you don't need much to get out of control. Flying vampire itself unlike crusade.

vampire nocturnus- I know this is budget but he isn't that much and is a total beast.

Voldaren Pariah- Shockingly good, even with little to no way of madness costing it. Being able to sac creatures is good, being able to force and opponent to sac 3 is insane. Card has been incredibly powerful in the deck.

teferi's protection- Insanely broken, perhaps thats why its not here. Protecting your board is much more important than removing threats, so swapping this in for removal would be strong.

A few less strong things I run: Bloodcrazed paladin- Cool but not always insane since sometimes you need to hold him and wait. Gifted Aetherborn- Just a solid vamp. Stormkirk condemned- Surprisingly good, especially with any level of madness. Sorin, Solemn visitor- The +1 ability lasts the whole go around till your next turn which can be quite useful.

Dinos are weird right now, since some of them conflict, for example I dislike that one of the better dinosaurs stops life gain since I want to go hard into the life gain. That being said part of the fun is gonna be playing with the mediocre dinosaurs and eventually replacing them when the next set rolls out.

Are the dinosaurs listed confirmed erratas?

strongly recommend vault of the archangels. You won't always activate it, but turning your creatures into massive life gain with unappealing blocks is veryyyy strong in this deck.

  • posted a message on So, what do you think of all the new Vampire cards?
For Edgar Sanctum seeker is an obvious include, so strong. Bloodcrazed Paladin is too cool, definitely gonna try him, even though Edgar does want you to always play on curve so having him as your only two drop would be a little awkward. Marven is great too, three bodies for three mana in Edgar essentially, and it even makes a life gain token.

Bishop seemed like a dream at first, but is probably too slow considering how pushed Edgar can be and that its not an ETB.

Wow so that takes away a big concern of mine about the titans. I was less concerned with trying to get something from an expansive graveyard, and just not missing out on value and feeling silly after huge mills that hit one of them.

Runescarred is strong. So strong that we dont play him in our playgroup that generally bans most tutors. If you are looking for blunt power he is definitely a contender alongside extra turn cards which would make this deck even more preposterous.

So you can basically snipe something back with sheoldred, genesis etc. as long as it is NOT among the cards milled by mesmeric?

Yeah, the deck is strong yet not so brutal that people don't enjoy playing with or against it. Fabulous plays are enjoyed by opponents alike!

As for both titans, you may only keep one if your meta allows. But having them exiled could potentially spell danger. It's better to be safe than sorry. If your entire graveyard gets shuffled various times into your library, just start fresh. Remember that things aren't supposed to stay indefinitely in your graveyard. You should be able to cast most creatures from it a couple of more turns in the game.

That's an interesting ruling question. However, first is untap, so Mesmeric Orb triggers enter the stack and have to be resolved before upkeep even occurs. So you can't use Genesis to recover an eldrazi titan. Even then, the shuffle trigger still happens. The thing with Genesis is that when it triggers, it has to have a legal target, otherwise it frizzles. So you can't respond to Genesis by discarding an eldrazi titan because the titan isn't in the graveyard when the trigger enters the stack - so it's not an allowable target (it's not even a matter of legality). What I used to do is (before Prophet of Kruphix was unjustifiably banned) was cast the eldrazi titan with Havengul Lich in response to it entering the graveyard. The shuffle still happened and I got the eldrazi titan in play. That's usually how it went. Long story short, you can't use Genesis to return an eldrazi titan to your hand. Pretty sure on that one. Although I strongly encourage you to get a second opinion.

I'm honestly no expert, but see this ruling for my question:
4/15/2013 If permanents become untapped during the untap step, Mesmeric Orb’s ability will trigger that many times. However, since no player gets priority during the untap step, those abilities wait to be put on the stack until the upkeep starts. At that time, all the “beginning of upkeep” triggers will also trigger. Those abililties and Mesmeric Orb’s triggers can be put on the stack in any order.

If you could put the eldrazi trigger on the stack then follow it up with genesis sheoldred etc. it makes the titans a lot better in the deck! I tried to find this specific ruling but have come up empty handed so far

Do you ever consider cutting the eldrazi down to 1? I'm sure youve got good reason, but the only time this deck has felt silly has been when I've hit one and shuffled away a stacked graveyard and gone from a power position to almost having no plays. I understand they are obviously needed in general somewhere in the deck.

Hyper fun/addictive deck, while also being quite strong. If playing with infinites/craterhoof it would be downright horrifying. Curious to see if decimator is horrible because of it being a cast not ETB, and the generally smaller effect.

Also ruling question, since I'd figure you'd know. Because of the (to me) odd ruling that the effect of mesmeric orb kind of bleeds into the beginning of upkeep effects, does that mean even if an eldrazi is milled you can still genesis, sheoldred etc. before the rest shuffle?

Alright, that was mainly my question, if you thought guys like alchemist were good even without the infinite or if there were superior options. Thanks! Not only is the deck seemingly pretty good, its very pretty foiled

I actually just might! My deck is basically the competitive list. Its fine if that cards that are capable of the combos remain, I'm just wondering if theres better options out there if you arent going infinite.

Hey, I built this deck more or less, but had a few questions.

My playgroup doesnt really play with infinite combos or craterhoof. What would you cut/consider adding with that being the case?

Sedris is awesome, just made him my commander and hes slowly taking over my graveyard deck. My version focuses a little more on purphurous, tokens, and things like cut throat and blood artist

I still feel like its worth giving a go. I understand the drawback, but as long as you dont bring merchant out to get exiled, and are careful with what you let get exiled I think its reasonable- bringing back expendable things/utility at essential moments. Even just the huge lifelink potential can be helpful in a deck like this.
I'm assuming you've taken him out in your updated version, but Karn for example is certainly worse than whip in this kind of deck.
Anyways, your the experienced one with this version of the deck- I guess I'll have to see what your current decklist looks like. Just offering suggestions, speaking of which:
cryptbreaker- draw engine, one drop, discard outlet.
Mikaeus the unhallowed- incredibly strong suite of abilities, and has intimidate as icing on the cake to sneak in hits
phyrexian tower- sac outlet, mana ramp, way of getting creatures in the graveyard when targeted by exile. Lots of uses, you'd be surprised
