I wanted to open this thread in order to discuss the deck while I don't organize a proper Primer.
Note that this is a work in progress and I have made zero finishes with this.
Late Game
Now you should probably have the board somewhat stabilized and you can start attacking with your threats. Note that Crypt Rats also hits players, so it can be used as extra reach. Horror of the Broken Lands is specially nasty here, in the late game your opponent cannot let it through. With Tortured Existence out it can get +2/+1 only for the cost of {B} and having one creature in hand and another in the gy, if one of those creatures is Golgari Brownscale you'll gain incidental life as well! Keep in mind that you can steal games by casting Temur Battle Rage and swinging with a 12/8 double striking, trampling Horror of the Broken Lands.
I'll add more information as I write it.
I need help to figure out better sideboard options and how to approach the difficult matchups like combo (Vine Storm).
Cycling is busted, let's break it.
g1) He started with double BTE. But I stripped him of good cards with TKS+Sculler and quickly won when all he had was mana.
g2) I keep a one lander on the hopes of drawing another in two turns. I take two turns too many and he runs over.
g3) t2 thalia, t4 TKS, t5 Reality smasher leaves him at 2, serra avenger at end step seals the deal.
g1) I start with sculler, displacer and TKS. He never assembles a hand to combo and dies eventually.
g2) He starts with double electromancer and pyro ascension. I attack him with thalia and displacer for a couple of turns then cast strangler getting rid of one electromancer. Next turn I flash in Pontiff to push the last 3 points of damage.
g1) I went in too aggressivo with t2 displacer. He put me at 8 on t3 with shaman of the pack + beats. t4 he casts Elvish archdruid and I don't have enough blockers.
g2) I play a very grindy game where I destroy all his lands with triple GQ but his mana dorks pull him and he runs over with archdruid + a bunch of guys. I feel like my sequencing was ridiculously wrong. I needed to land Pontiff + flickerwisp in order to wipe him. I spent the flickers on his archdruid to hide it on his turn. What do?
g1) I Strangler his tarmogoyf and sculler on draw. He bolted the sculler before I exiled anything. (atm I typed "YES" in the chat) Later I flickerwisp my strangler 2x to keep him off creatures. His manabase dealt more damage than me.
g2) I get my face beaten by 2 flipped delvers for a couple of turns. I respond with Sculler+Strangler taking him off Staticaster and killing a delver. Now I made a mistake, decided to TKS him instead of killing the delver at 5 life. He puts me at 2 and next turn he has 0 cards in hand, draws and plays serum visions, then gitaxian probe, then bolt and I'm dead.
g3) Turn 3 he's at 11 life and I have firewalker + orzhov pontiff on the board. He lands tarmogoyf and manages to stall the board. I keep putting stuff on the board and he tries to keep up. I just overwhelm him and win.
g1) He lands triple swiftspear + nacatl and I'm at 5 life. I flash in strangler killing nacatl and path one swiftspear, this leaves me at 1 and he's all tapped. On my turn I drop a land and activate Shambling Vent for the last 2 damage.
g2) I turn 3 flash in arbiter and GQ his two lands. he plays another and hits with guide. Next turn I drop another GQ, kill his land, sunlance the guide and drop vial. He has no permanents and scoops.
obs:
I sided out stonecloaker a lot, but he's valueble a lot of times. I figure what I could put in his place.
Ajani, Caller of the Pride didn't show up. Can't tell if he helps or not.
I feel naked without Worship, but I guess ghostly prison helps in almost every match worship does and costs 1 less.
Pontiff is valuable. Even in this version that doesn't put as many creatures on the table as straight bw.
Where's affinity, lantern and thopters? My stony silences and relic-warder sat on the side the wohle league.
Smasher off the side is the way to go. He's too clunky MD, but when you need him, he smashes.
The deck felt strong and overall fun to play with. The eldrazi menace helps a lot to overcome the big creatures. I always felt DnT lacking when we had to brawl with 4/4s up, unless we used double blocking + first strike of some combination of elements. The eldrazi deal with those by their own. I have 8 targeted discard main deck stapled to creatures and they're not hard to cast. Strangler is pretty easy to activate and sometimes you strangle on an empty board just to process that Ancestral Visions. Sadly I didn't get to play against thopters, but that will happen eventually.
I can wait to play legacy. I have no idea where to go or even that much free time to play legacy in paper.
My first legacy move will be made on MTGO. Currently Wasteland is 70 tix and Rishadan Port is 185 tix each. But I don't know how EMA will impact on prices.
Is my assumption that maverick plays a lot like DnT correct? Which cards should be safe to invest in now? (cards that won't lower their price with EMA.)
I'm considering investing in a legacy deck with the upcoming EMA.
I currently play Merfolk and Death and Taxes in modern.
I really like the death and taxes style of play, small dudes and lotsa hate. But my question is: do I invest in it now or wait? I have all the cards for modern death and taxes, I would be missing 4 Stoneforge, 4 Mother of Runes, 4 Rishadan, 4 Wasteland, 1 Karakas, 1 Jitte. (Without even looking at the sideboard.)
I've even considered maverick, it plays a lot like GW death and taxes in modern. And looks super fun. (But the expensive cards would be the manabase. I would need 4 verdant, 2 marsh flats and all the duals.)
While merfolk the entry point would be cheaper. As I would only need 4 force of will, 1 chalice of the void and that's it. (probably more, but I don't know)
What would you guys suggest me? Invest in death and taxes now or wait? Do I pick merfolk? Any other suggestions?
I think RAM is super fine when your plan is muddle the ground and swing with fliers. It holds off almost any aggro in the format by itself while dripping some life points. I'm testing it in favor of Kor Firewalker because my meta is filled with aggro and I need sideboard against that. Is there a better 2-drop against aggro that lets you tick vial up to 3 without beign near dead in the process?
@x1uo3yd Oath of Nissa is legendary. The second one will send the first to the grave.
I feel there is a list for Topplegeist to work without warping the deck. But this list is heavily meta dependant. Topplegeist feels awful against Thopter Foundry/Sword of the Meek
On a different note, I was thinking about sideboard cards against thopter/sword combo and the best ones looks like Stony Silence or Rest in Peace. But reading through other forums here I read that an esper deck using the combo is mainboarding 3 Disenchant. That hates on half our deck, even preboard. I'm not sure which kind of hate (towards the combo) is best to stick with. Leonin Relic-Warder dodges disenchant, but anything will kill it and we're ****ed again (unless we flicker trick him).
That is not a Card worth putting in Death & Taxes and even if the chances of getting both Cards together is quite too low.
We've been through this. 3 cmc for a 0/6 that turns a land into a 3/3? You're putting 3/9 on the table. Any opponent will have a hard time dealing with that.
As we stand right now, Wall of Resurgence is perfect for the deck, it stalls the ground (holds Tasigur, the Golden Fang, Gurmag Angler or Reality Smasher) while letting you swing with a 4/4 in the air (Blinkmoth Nexus. Also, using your Flagstones of Trokair as the 3/3 will not hurt your mana. And flagstones in a deck that packs 4 Ghost Quarter makes a pretty good fetchland impression. (If you GQ yourself you'll not lose mana, neither this turn or the next.)
That being said, I'm not extremely happy with the choices I made in my list. I tried experimenting with @dnc's ideas of maindeck revoker. He's cool and all, but the Orzhov Pontiff and Zealous Persecution blowout is hard to recover from. I'll probably fiddle with my stuff and fit in more toughness in my build. Maybe Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit is the card I want. She's awful by herself but any lingering token/thalia/revoker that hits the field will get a bit more punch and resistance. Veteran Armorer is a card that helps and doesn't require the correct sequencing to work.
I currently run orzhov, but I'm thinking about putting 1x Shockland of another color or a single Horizon Canopy to help Engineered Explosives. Tomorrow I'll post my updated list.
@epiknoob
You have 16 ETB effects and 4 Cloudstone Curio, I guess cutting on curios or add more etbs would help.
Also Leonin Arbiter + fetchlands is suboptimal. Maybe you should try Aven Mindcensor in its place.
And, lastly, serum visions is super awkward with thalia, 2 mana for a cantrip is too much. (While 4 mana for 2 spirit tokens is not.)
New odric feels like winmore and does nothing on an empty board... But I'll test this as a fun-of when it comes out, we have a LOT of keywords to abuse this.
(I want him to copy protection as well... but one can dream.)
I play Wb DnT for 1 year or so. @skeet70 convinced me to build it when I was talking to him in chat. For that reason my build had Sword of Light and Shadow. Lately I'm testing with @deathcatandmix ideas of a heavy equipment deck and so far so good!
Godsend is bestial with serra avenger or brimaz. Bumps them up to 6 and 7 toughness, respectively, their vigilance also stalls the game completely while you swing away without fear of losing creatures.
Mortarpod pulled its weight more often than not. Specially when Ensnaring Bridge hits the table.
Batterskull was never boarded in. 5 cmc is too much in here. But I'll keep it here and see where it goes.
Basilisk Collar is probably getting cut. Never boarded in, and I feel I'll never do. It's removal spell number 8. Probably better off as the third Sunlance
Steelshaper's gift is flexible as hell. Infect cries when you t1 steelshaper into t2 mortarpod. Against chord and decks with dorks this is almost better than Sunlance as it leaves behind the equipment to be flickered/equipped to a spirit.
I chose Parasitic Strix over Gray Merchant of Asphodel because it has flying (gotta love them fliers) and is 3cmc. Gary has the ability of draining for a lot more and reliably, while Parasitic depends on board state. But sometimes a 2/2 flying creature gets the job done. But to maximize the potential for draining we need to change our removal a bit: Dead Weight removes a lot, shrinks down those 4/4s and is a black permanent, Executioner's Capsule is another black permanent and is tutorable by Trinket Mage.
Cavern Harpy is the all-star of the deck. It flies, hits for 2, bounces stuff back and is resilient to Shrivel and Electrickery.
Tidehollow Strix may seem out of place, but it hits for 2, also flies and has deathtouch. You can transform it into a removal stick with Viridian Longbow, which, in turn, is tutorable by Trinket Mage.
This is a prototype and I'll probably change it a lot to include Undead Servant, this card could potentially spawn a lot of 2/2s and take over the game by itself, but it needs support.
Any thoughts on this? (I'm sorry, but my english sucks.)
I'm stocking my allowance because as of now, my deck only needs the money cards. Shocklands and Master Biomancer. I'll save this money until I figure out what to do to get those.
Maybe I could drop my current deck and move to control. Acidic Slime, Augur of Bolas, Delver of Secrets as creatures, and some counters/removal/etcs... So far I have all the charms I could use, but the golgari ones seem heavy creature centric and I won't have that. If I do this I'll just use the dimir and simic ones.
And what about sideboard? What are you guys thinking of doing?
Note that this is a work in progress and I have made zero finishes with this.

Link to deck @ TappedOut.net
Early Game
Your goal is to stabilize the board, hit your land drops and eventually find Tortured Existence. You'll utilize Faithless Looting, Cathartic Reunion and Horror of the Broken Lands to cycle through your deck quickly in order to find the answers you need.
Mid game
Here you'll have Crypt Rats available to take care of leftover threats and you can start adding a couple bodies to the board like a instant speed madnessed Grave Scrabbler, Gurmag Angler or Horror of the Broken Lands. You'll also want to gain some life through dredging/Tortured Existence Golgari Brownscale, this will help you stall the game and stay above water in order to continue sweeping with Crypt Rats
Late Game

Will probably do another league this weekend.
I'm only waiting for SOI to land on MTGO to test:
Declaration in Stone
Anguished Unmaking
Thraben Inspector
Topplegeist

TL;DR What do we bring in against Thopter Foundry/Sword of the Meek knowing they will run disenchant?
You guys are forgetting some cards. Namely: Phyrexian Revoker, Spellskite, Nyx-fleece Ram, Sword of Fire and Ice, Lingering Souls, Oath of Nissa and Flagstones of Trokair.
If anything. I think delirium is easy to activate in DnT, specially in BW.
You could use 1~2 of as the top end. Some people are using thragtusk for that purpose.
We've been through this. 3 cmc for a 0/6 that turns a land into a 3/3? You're putting 3/9 on the table. Any opponent will have a hard time dealing with that.

4 Aether Vial
4 Path to Exile
3 Lingering Souls
1 Sword of Light and Shadow
1 Mortarpod
1 Godsend
4 Blinkmoth Nexus
4 Ghost Quarter
3 Tectonic Edge
4 Flagstones of Trokair
4 Godless Shrine
1 Eiganjo Castle
3 Plains
2 Worship
2 Mirran Crusader
3 Phyrexian Revoker

Nyx-Fleece Ram is a wall with lifegain. next.
No one expects the Worship inquisition.
I'm open to new ideas and general talk. Keep taxing.
I've been experimenting with this:
2x Augur of Skulls
4x Cavern Harpy
4x Trinket Mage
4x Mulldrifter
4x Parasitic Strix
3x Ravenous Rats
3x Tidehollow Strix
Blinky (8)
4x Ghostly Flicker
4x Undying Evil
Removal (3)
3x Dead Weight
Trinket Package (4)
1x Viridian Longbow
2x Executioner's Capsule
1x Sylvok Lifestaff
1x Bojuka Bog
1x Radiant Fountain
2x Halimar Depths
3x Dimir Aqueduct
4x Dismal Backwater
2x Vault of Whispers
2x Seat of the Synod
2x Swamp
4x Island
3x Chainer's Edict
3x Coast Watcher
2x Duress
1x Grim Harvest
1x Nihil Spellbomb
3x Spreading Seas
1x Sylvok Lifestaff
1x Viridian Longbow
Mulldrifter requires no explanation. Ravenous Rats and Augur of Skulls are discard and also black permanents, but I don't know if Augur is good enough.
The sideboard is not tested at all. I threw in cards that could prove helpful in the current metagame.
Cards I've considered and are worth testing:
Man-o-War
Reality Acid
Dream Stalker
Esper Stormblade
This is a prototype and I'll probably change it a lot to include Undead Servant, this card could potentially spawn a lot of 2/2s and take over the game by itself, but it needs support.
Any thoughts on this? (I'm sorry, but my english sucks.)
Also, decklists were spoiled today. I'm really interested in the UB one. Aborrent overlord + whip is a fun combo.
Anyone willing to IPTP?
Maybe I could drop my current deck and move to control. Acidic Slime, Augur of Bolas, Delver of Secrets as creatures, and some counters/removal/etcs... So far I have all the charms I could use, but the golgari ones seem heavy creature centric and I won't have that. If I do this I'll just use the dimir and simic ones.
And what about sideboard? What are you guys thinking of doing?
