I've been looking at getting into magic, and, for now wanted a cheap budget deck.
I saw Travis Woo posted a mono u aggro deck with a bit of tempo. he was keeping his pauper-ish (no rares).
I decided to have a play with it, and really liked it.
So this is what I came up with. SB is WiP
Some feedback would be great though as I am very new to modern
So I played a TNM at a local store with the previously posted burn deck and went 3-1. lost to Splinter Twins, purely because of being a newbie to Modern format.
I didn't forget them, as this is a purely Rw list. I have been experimenting with Rwb but still finding it less consistent. Primarily because you take more self damage from fetching shocks to mana fix, and other fast decks use that to get in a win.
Also 12 fetches seems like to much self damage to me, 4-6 would maybe be my ideal max, from my experience so far.
Question, what is the difference between Arid Mesa, Bloodstained Mire and Wooded Foothill. There seems to be little to none, as, every card we fetch has "mountain" on it. So playing 4-8 fetches, does it really matter which one is played?
Flames of the Blood Hand seems poor cost wise. 4 damage for 3cmc doesn't seem comparable to other cards in the list, or, am i missing something major?
Also, for games vs control/3 colour mid range ect is it worth having a 1 of Blood Moon in the SB?
Edit: Realized I had the wrong SB on the list, here is the correct one
So I played a TNM at a local store with the previously posted burn deck and went 3-1. lost to Splinter Twins, purely because of being a newbie to Modern format.
I originally looked at mono red including lavamancer and 8 fetches. From play-testing I did the other day i found the Rw version more efficient. 2 mana boros charms snuck in a lot of games where I would have previously lost.
Even play testing my planned full cost deck (pls remember, I will be buying the other cards after playing this deck at a few FNM's) i wasn't a huge fan of lavamancer, except in a few very specific moments. I need to do more testing (only have about 40 ish games down at present) but again, not a huge fan.
@Redvader
I tried a black splash and found I didn't like the curve as much and found the mana base a bit more unstable. That is just a personal preference though.
Would it be worth keeping in for unknown metas? Or should I swap it until i find a meta with kor's/Sisters
Budget discussion is no longer allowed outside of budget. Although we definitely want to help out our budget-minded players, we don't want this to happen at the expense of deck development and strategy in the non-budget threads. Starting on 2/9, this will be a warnable/infractable offense. But for now, just a reminder to take budget talk to the budget subforum.
Just a question regarding this. how is budget defined? if I say I am building a deck with a $1000 budget, is it still required for the budget sub section?
If i discuss the same deck as i previously asked about, but drop the "200 budget, for now" (whilst still discussing the cards that will be slotted in when i decide i like it or not) but instead say 'new attempt at efficiency" is that allowed?
Not trying to be a smart ass, purely asking so i know for future posting.
Also the change to the budget posting rules isn't happening for another 8 months, isn't it a bit early to be posting warning notices?
My general plan is to go Goblin Guide as a priority buy, then Fetches + Grim Lavamancer + Searing Blaze
The reason for no standard fetches is that My budget is about $200 as I haven't played a deck like this to know if i will continue playing it. So dropping fetches (no other decks I play are red) to get better value cards in seemed the wiser option.
The SB is my main worry. I don't know the meta very well as I travel, so will have a few metas to play in.
After recently returning to magic (again) i decided to make a modern deck, as, it will last longer than standard decks I play (I move a lot due to work, so don't always have stores near by to play at).
I have always found burn an interesting concept so have decided to give it a crack.
These are SB maybe cards I am considering, depending on the metas I play in.
Some feedback and advise would be fantastic. Mainly my mana base (seems a little janky). Would it be worth swapping the 2 plains into temple of triumph as it can help set up cards without slowing the deck to much. Also the new Soulfire Grand Master worth a sb slot for grindier games?

4x Phantasmal Bear
3x Sage of Epityr
2x Quickling
1x Thassa, God of the Sea
3x Triton Shorestalker
4x Wingcrafter
3x Familiar's Ruse
4x Vapor Snag

2x Hall of Triumph
Land (20)
20x Island
2x Illusory Angel
2x Relic of Progenitus
3x Rune Snag
2x Singing Bell Strike
4x Tidebinder Mage
Some feedback would be great, as I'm hoping to buy this deck in the next few days!
Thanks,

I recently got back into MTG and decided to make a modern deck.
I already have a bunch of infect cards so waa thinking of putting together the following deck
4x Birds of Paradise
4x Blighted Agent
4x Glistener Elf
4x Plague Stinger
Instant (16)
2x Apostle's Blessing
2x Become Immense
4x Groundswell
4x Might of Old Krosa
4x Vines of Vastwood
2x Distortion Strike
4x Gitaxian Probe
2x Sylvan Scrying
Land (20)
4x Breeding Pool
2x Cathedral of War
2x Forest
2x Hinterland Harbor
4x Inkmoth Nexus
4x Overgrown Tomb
2x Pendelhaven
I know no Noble Heirarch atm, but this will be changed once i have the money for it (birds take its place for now).
I was considering swapping out the 2x Hinterland Harbor and `1 each of Overgrown Tomb and Breeding Pool for fetches.
What would be a recommended SB for an unknown meta (i travel with work and will be playing in 3-4 stores)
Thanks for any help!

2x Dragon's Claw
1x Ensnaring Bridge
3x Molten Rain
1x Relic of Progenitus
2x Searing Blood
2x Smash to Smithereens
2x Wear / Tear
So I played a TNM at a local store with the previously posted burn deck and went 3-1. lost to Splinter Twins, purely because of being a newbie to Modern format.
So I think i will expand the does this look?
2x Searing Blaze
1x Searing Blood
3x Shard Volley
4x Skullcrack
Sorcery (8)
4x Lava Spike
4x Rift Bolt
4x Eidolon of the Great Revel
4x Goblin Guide
2x Grim Lavamancer
4x Monastery Swiftspear
Land (20)
4x Battlefield Forge
8x Mountain
4x Sacred Foundry
4x Wooded Foothills
2x combust
2x kor firewalker
2x Leyline of Punishment
4x Molten Rain
2x Shattering Spree
1x stony silence
2x Wear / Tear
I have considered dropping the 4 Battlefield Forge for 4 Bloodstained Mire to give more land etb as well as exile bait for lavamancer
Also i was messing about with Rwb list, but whats the general feel? I find sometimes it is faster, other times it seems to fizzle due to its mana base
Thanks for any feedback,
Nikki
Just after some input for my U/W budget deck.
Budget would be around $40 so there is still about $20 of wiggle room
4x Battlewise Hoplite
2x Fabled Hero
4x Favored Hoplite
3x Lagonna-Band Trailblazer
2x Seeker of the Way
Instant (14)
2x Ajani's Presence
3x Defiant Strike
3x Feat of Resistance
4x Gods Willing
2x Valorous Stance
4x Aqueous Form
2x Ordeal of Heliod
3x Ordeal of Thassa
2x Stratus Walk
Land (20)
6x Island
10x Plains
4x Tranquil Cove
3x Disdainful Stroke
2x Erase
2x Glare of Heresy
4x Singing Bell Strike
2x Stubborn Denial
2x Suspension Field
Originally I had 2 Eidolon of Countless Battles but it's either overkill or does nothing. So I dropped 1 Seeker of the Way and added in 3 Lagonna-band Trailblazer.
I am considering if it is worth slotting in some of the following, but not sure how
1x Heliod's Pilgrim
1x Monastery Mentor
1x Reality Shift
1x Triton Tactics
1x Valorous Stance
Advice is welcomed!
Thanks,
Nikki

I made the recomended changes.
Is it worth having the Leyline of Punishment in the SB?

2x Combust
2x Kor Firewalker
2x Leyline of Punishment
4x Molten Rain
1x Shatterstorm
2x Stony Silence
2x Wear / Tear
Combust because a lot of junks big creatures are part white.
Kor Firewalker for other burn decks, though I worry about the WW costing
Leyline of Punishment is a bit of a blind throw in as I don't knwo how prevelent prevent damage/life gain is
Molten Rain for tron and 3 colour decks to punish them
Shatterstorm & stony silence to shut down affinity
Wear//Tear has many uses, mainly anti Leyline of Sanctity.
Though I am thinking of maybe some Dismember to counter Kor Firewalker if they are prevelent in SB's. Though Pyrite Spellbomb could be a better option as it also handles Etched Champion
Any SB advise for a "general' sb until I know the metas would be very handy!
Thanks,
Nikki
