Damnation is worth less and is much more likely to be reprinted in a commander-esque product IMO. I wouldn't make the trade if you were worried about losing value, because you will be. Of course, even if damnation dropped 50%, you'd still only lose like $25, so in the grand scheme of things who cares.
First person to post here can have the code. I got it at PAX, but I don't play lol and all my friends who play already got one, so I figured I'd let someone on this forum have it. It's just gonna go to the person who posts first (I'll PM them the code) so please don't PM me.
There are already two very good 1/3 creatures in UB, i don't think that a third one is needed. They don't exactly overlap in applications, but the decks taht would want them are similar and i don't think that this new guy can compete with the tried and true cards.
Do you think this guy is better than Finkel? Because i don't.
It certainly isn't better, but it's worth noting that it also costs one less to play.
Like so many cards so far from this set, I think this is testable but doubt it will make a lasting impact.
The 1 power and double-red are significant drawbacks, but this is a 3 drop that gives red access to some utility that it doesn't normally get. I'm very excited for this card for my Stonebrow EDH deck, and I think it has some Cube implications as well. After all, Chandra, Pyromaster is playable right?
I am unsure about this guy, but I really think he's no chandra. Chandra gives you value the turn you play her, pinging for 1 and faltering their best blocker. With this guy, though, people have (correctly, imo) identified that he is at his best when he is suited up in some way, so say you play him on t3, then t4 play and equip jitte, well then you can't cast whatever you exile (even lands, cause you had to play the 4th one) and he's not really better than any other doublestriker. So, say you equip him with a sword that you already played so you still have mana left to play the cards, except that sword and this guy occupy the same place on the curve so one of them is delayed a turn. If you wait for 5 and play and equip a sword, again, he's just a double-striker (and I don't think anyone would play a 1/3 double strike for 3)
I think this guy is certainly testable, but he's no chandra, and I think he will be an one the edge card if he does see play. Of course, I could be wrong.
Stick it against control and dare them to counter your spells.
Control will be pretty happy you just spent turn two playing a non-haste bear, and then supreme verdict your board away on t4 and take 0 damage from the spell.
Does this card wreck storm in modern? I'm not if it works the way I think it does. But wow it seems really good.
No, it doesn't. You don't cast the storm copies, only the first spell. Mindbreak trap is a million times better against storm than this card is in any deck. This only pings them on the rituals and the initial card, and dies to every removal ever, so it's pretty easy to play around. This is a mediocre at best storm hate card.
I mean, it has the potential to be a one-sided wrath in even board stalls, but I just don't think that happens enough in cube to make it worth it. Cool card though.
Ugh. That is one of the laziest, least impactful ultimates ever devised. If you get a PW to ultimate, chances are you don't need the life anyway, and seeing how rare most PW ults are I think they really need to be splashy and cool.
Edit - I really like the art, though, and both of the +1's are pretty cool. I think it's a fine card outside the ult, but not remotely good enough for tight selsnya sections.
Yeah, the art is amazing. And I agree on the power level, just not good enough for a 5-mana MC card. Too bad. Will be fun in multicolor-focused cubes, though, as they probably have low enough power levels to make this guy good, as well as a lot higher devotion counts.
I know this guy still qualifies as a punisher effect and we all know that sometimes these effect just don't work out the way you want, but I'm ok with getting either of these effects.
Ummm, I'm confused how this is a punisher effect. It is a random effect, but punisher effects generally involve giving your opponent a choice of some kind.
Cards that make you play with the top card of your library aren't good because they let you plan ahead, they are good because they generally generate card advantage, ie oracle of mul daya and future sight.
Whether or not the mechanic is good depends on the same metrics as evaluating whether every other mechanic is good - how aggressively costed the card using the mechanic is and how powerful the effect is. On cards like oracle, which saw lots of standard play and still sees play in cubes, the mechanic is very good.
This is the best black 1-drop outside of Gravecrawler. Auto-include at every size, IMO.
Yup, not much else to say really. Super glad we are getting a bestow staple since I love the mechanic and I like having a card that is an auto-include and will stay for a long time.
It certainly isn't better, but it's worth noting that it also costs one less to play.
