I run a pauper edh cube, and I'm very much looking forward to wedge uncommon creatures to use as generals. In the 20 years of the game, there has never been a RUG, Junk, Dega, or Jeskai-identitied creature printed at uncommon. It was only within the past 10 years that a single, lonely BUG uncommon creature was made.

There's actually been several of each and if links worked properly I'd show you

I'm currently planning on Howl, Sarkhan, Utter End, and Rattleclaw Mystic.

    http://magiccards.info/query?q=r%3Auncommon+t%3A%22creature%22+ci%3Awbgm&s=cname&v=card&p=1

I don't see a junk one in there, but I don't want to take the time to search for everything else. I remember when searching for wedge cards for a budget MC cube I've been working on the pickings were incredibly slim. I certainly don't think there have been "several" uncommon creatures printed with the full color identity of each wedge.

Edit - Ugh why is that linking back to this thread. What a joke. Anyway, it's just a search for uncommon color identity in junk colors, so easy to recreate.

Any reanimate spell will bring the creature back from the graveyard. Also, ways to give your guys hexproof or shroud will also not let him target your guys with the ability what's reducing their toughness.

Yeah, I haven't had any urges to slam wedge cards in, like Maelstrom Wanderer gave me! There will be good ones though, I am sure.

If sidisi was 3 cmc or a 4/4 she might be close. It's a cool effect, but I wish it hit on every creature card, not just every time cards go from library to graveyard if you hit 1 creature. Still, would have been cool with gifts, FoF, alchemy, etc.

Ok last post In the thread for me,
But this is blowing my mind, are you guys aware that it makes 1/1s for each attacking creature?

Curse of shallow graves makes 1 2/2 per turn, this can make x hasted 1/1s
Again going back to my argument of the large upside.

This is an agressive card through and through.
A single hasted 1/1 isn't even THAT much worse than a 2/2 if you are trying to kill them in a few turns. And only get a couple turns to realize its value.
    (It's still worse obv).

Then consider the not super rare case of 3 creatures attacking and the damage doesn't even compare.

I forgot that it doesn't trigger hell rider tho :((( def a big bummer.

Anyway, now convinced most of you are insane and going to leave the thread.

The tokens can't trigger more tokens. That is awful. You are talking about the dream scenario of 1-drop, 2-drop, this attack for 5-6, drop a haste threat on turn four attack for like 11 (and a total of 6 goblins). Let's put aside the fact that you need perfect mana to do that. Let's say you play your one drop, play your two drop, get an attack, your 2-drop gets removed. Uh oh, now you drop this and get 1 1/1 attacking. Then they kill your 1-drop too. Now you get to attack with a 1/1 token that can't replace itself. Whereas with curse, you are still getting an attack every turn. I wouldn't play this if it cost RRR, no way when it's three color and only mediocre in one deck. You keep focusing on these perfect scenarios that will almost never happen.

If you think everyone around you is insane, it might be you.

Tricolour cards need to be face-meltingly awesome at this point to have a chance in normal cubes.

Curse of Shallow Graves is a mono black card that has a lot of similarities to this, and is likely better.

No likely about it. Curse is certainly, obviously, 100% better than this card. Curse is mono colored, triggers off its own tokens, makes creatures that can actually trade with other creatures, and lets you not feel bad about just attacking with one guy. This card it's absolutely awful because it doesn't trigger on tokens, costs 3 colors, and only makes 1/1's. No normal cube wants this even at like 1000 cards.

Oh, I'm dumb. I don't know what I thought the card did.

Yeah, this guy is way better than what I read it as. I probably got confused with something on the duplicate thread, I just browsed over the picture.

Upon re-reading it, I think two 3/4s is pretty good, but for five mana it's still not as much power as you can be putting onto the board with Kalonian Hydra or even Wolfir Silverheart, and the latter there isn't making a lot of waves. It's also in white. I like it with flicker effects a lot though, especially if they're repeatable. Not bad with Crystal Shard / Erratic Portal too, although that's more of a 450+ thing.

Hmm. I think it still doesn't make my 360, but hopefully I'm not saying that because I was originally biased against it. :p

I don't think silverheart and hydra are very good here. Hydra is a big dumb beater that fails the vindicate test and silverheart doesn't give evasion. They are also both in the color that gets the biggest return on its investment in creatures. Six evasive power over two creatures both of which dodge all 3 damage burn spells and gain you life is a very powerful effect. I agree that this doesn't make 360 lists, but I certainly think its testable at 450+ and probably a shoe in at 540 and above. It's incredibly hard to race this guy in any kind of comparable board position as long as you have one Ok attack or guy to throw away for the raid.

Obviously the conditionality, how bad it is in an empty board, and potential for it to read "sac a creature" are it's biggest downsides, but I think it's powerful enough in the average and best scenarios to make up for that.

Pretty much any major retailer will do preorders on boosters for somewhere between $90 and $100 on most sets (Khans hype is high right now cause of fetchland reprints to prices are a bit high). Check SCG (tends to sell at a premium), channel fireball (charging $110 right now, boxes were 99 before the fetchland hype), troll and toad, or just auction site sellers with high feedback. Local game shops will also often have pre-orders available for slightly higher prices, but you don't pay shipping and you can get a buy-a-box promo. I'd check your LGS, if they are doing pre-orders for $105 or less, you probably aren't gonna do that much better shopping around online and you get to support the community store.

    Quote from SpiderParadox »
The best time to buy is 3 weeks to 2 months after release. Fetches will be very cheap around that time. You'll probably get them for $10-$20 each.

Buy the new art, the old art versions will be double the price, if we use what happened with shocklands as a metric.

This. Do not preorder them now. They will go down. Buy your sets about 2 months after release for maximum value.

I feel like the junk one is much closer to playable, but neither make it in normal cubes.

It is an upgrade from UtoPiatREE if people have that, but I assume the Caryatid already took that spot.

Lol, you used mana tags instead of card tags, and ended up with that awesome...mana cost thing. For those wondering, the card referenced is utopia tree. Although I much prefer tapping and rolling my planechase dice.

The cheapest eldrazi with annihilator is 8 mana. If you let your opponent resolve an 8 mana creature then untap with it, you deserve to lose. Annihilator is a perfectly well-designed, balanced mechanic.

If old spaghetti dad only came down after people had been playing lands for 15 turns... and I were playing a blue deck to start with... I still couldn't counter it.

So yeah, no... I never want to see another Eldrazi in a Standard set. Ever.

An argument could be made for them needing a reprint at some point of course, though Standard isn't the only vehicle for that, but personally I'm perfectly fine with banning them in every format ever as an alternative.

They are only ever cheated into play into formats where there are a ton of other unfair decks. The eldrazi are not oppressive in any format. Did they even see play in their standard? I don't remember there being a way to cheat them into play.

I can't see a Return to Zendikar until some more of the story is developed. Also, Annihilator was a bad design. It should have triggered on combat damage to a player, not on attack.

That would make it awful and unplayable. The cheapest eldrazi with annihilator is 8 mana. If you let your opponent resolve an 8 mana creature then untap with it, you deserve to lose. Annihilator is a perfectly well-designed, balanced mechanic.

I think he's close, not good enough, but very close for small cubes. However, in a broader sense, this card makes me very excited for playable morph dudes. This is a card with a morph that actually nets you mana, is playable face up or face down, and is just generally a good card. I am excited if other morphs are on par with this guy.

Thanks for the all the quick responses. I'm hearing a consensus about the untouchable status of BBE (no surprise there), and about not running all four 4-drops, but not much else. I'm definitely going to try Sarkhan Vol and keep Xenagos for now over Huntmaster. My favorite thing about Xenagos is its token generating ability, which it does quite a bit better (thanks to haste) and more reliably than Huntmaster - not to mention its ramp capability and ultimate. I haven't seen Xenagos in play yet in my cube, but I've seen it in action enough in other formats that I'm optimistic about it for my cube. It sounds like Sarkhan has both disappointed and delighted, but since I have zero experience with it I'm just going to have to test it for myself. If either planeswalker or Ruric Thar starts underperforming I'll probably swap it out for Kird Ape.

For what it's worth I think kird ape is much stronger than Ruric if you support RG aggro. I don't think RG midrange needs the help he gives (obviously he is insane against removal/wrath based control, but so are other midrange green creatures), whereas ape is exactly what RG aggro wants. I have been impressed with both sarkhan and xenagos too, and I think they are both includes over thar.

Remember, multiple instances of prowess will stack as well, so I suspect we will see a prowess lord. This kind of makes up for the mechanic only being +1/+1 and not X.

Also, they could (but probably wont) print a creature with 2 instances of prowess
