How is Soul Sisters well positioned against jund / junnk???

Their removal is pretty bad against hawks and spectral tokens (except for the lone maelstrom pulse most lists play) so it is very easy to race them with a flying army while gaining lots of life. Also if they don't at least pressure your life total you can very easily get to thirty just from sister triggers then cast rangers and bury them under card advantage.

Recently started playing soul sisters again. Felt it was really well positioned and went 4-0 and 3-1 at my first two events, using a pretty stock list with only a few tweaks (heres the list for any interested). I have a feeling that we'll see a lot more zoo and jund/junk decks, which is very good for soul sisters. Probably seeing a lot more UWR control also which is a horror matchup mostly, so all in all pretty good for soul sister as long as combo decks don't become to big.

Just my two cents on the splashes but I really don't like them unless they're very light and painless. Fairly often you'll play your ascendant turn one and play martyr turn two to gain 9, as realistically having 2 lands only is less likely to happen than three. This is where the extra life really matters and there are other scenarios where you can't afford the life also.

Bolt is much more replaceable in aggro decks. You want to dump your creatures then remove their creatures, so you probably won't mind paying an extra mana for removal. Unlike UWR control where there are so many 1 mana creatures that if you don't have bolt, you are very far behind. But I think its very clear bolt will never be banned. The real problem is that aggro decks are pulled in too many directions. You must be fast enough to race splinter twin and resilient enough to grind through pod. You start adding cards like thoughtsieze for combo, and larger creatures or better removal for pod, and you just end up a worse midrange deck. This is also true for control decks, as they must have interaction for combo, and enough removal for the pod decks. I think aggro and control could definitely benefit from some unbannings and maybe some bannings. Also new printings might help, such as a good catch up spell for control (similar to wrath in bygone standard years) or a good hate bear for aggro.

I think bolt does keep aggro out of the format. Bolt is just so versatile, able to efficiently deal with pretty much all 1 and 2 mana aggro threats and many 3 mana ones are unplayable because the of how efficient a 1 mana answer is. At the moment two mana hard removal (doom blade, go for the throat etc) is worse than a one mana red instant and there's no point in playing those cards really. If you want to kill a 1 mana creature, there should be an associated cost, such as with shock or disfigure. Those spells will answer pretty much every 1 mana creature that can be played for neutral mana advantage, but are worse against some 2 mana creatures. For anything over one mana doom blade and such are actually good again, and will not mean the death of blue decks, as they can just slash these spells instead. Without any aggro decks midrange decks are free to just play the most powerful cards they can (instead of being forced to play something like disfigure) which also keeps control decks out of the format. I'm not advocating for a bolt ban or anything, just saying I wish we could have a format where people who wanted to play their wraths could and people who wanted to jam 2/1's for 1 could play them as well.

Anyone who has played with or against cruise just knows that it is too good and you should probably just play a deck that can support it.

I don't get all this talk about control. Control is still a viable deck in this meta. At the moment though aggro is just
not part of the meta at all. I think this is due to the way splinter twin really stifles what is available in the format.
You either race splinter twin (pretty much impossible with creature based aggro) or you're packing enough removal to maybe disrupt it.
This leaves you very open to the other half of the format, removal heavy jund/UWx decks and the value driven pod decks.
If splinter twin was not in the format aggro could actually build itself so it could compete with these more grindy decks and race the slower combo decks.

Hey everyone. This thread hasn't been used for a while, but I know there are still a lot of vampire enthusiasts out there.
With the new unbannings there will a significant shift in the metagame. Will B/r vampires be slightly more viable with the unbannings?

I think soul sisters is in a really good place with these bans. Zoo will be the default "best" deck, and we have a pretty good zoo match up. Hopefully zoo will also push tron out of the format completely.

My playing has improved quite a bit since my last tournament, my goal is no longer to stay above 30 life, I don't think I ever had an active Serra's Ascendant the entire tournament. Most games I hovered in between the upper teens and lower twenties. The goal was to survive long enough for me to resolve multiple threats using the extra life as buffer.
Based off of these results I'm wondering whether I should be playing W/B tokens over Sisters.....

I was thinking they might be printing enemy manlands, as there is a low chance they would print a cycle of dual lands and awesome utility lands (such as Innistrad block), so maybe they would just merge them and print dual lands that were also utility lands?

Any reason there are no lingering souls in the 75, sounds like you would want some. Even if you cant flashback reliably on the very next turn, its still a great card and gives good card advantage.

I disagree that you can't play your 'pet deck' or control in modern. Legacy just has a more developed fan base than modern, where a lot of people will just play their favorite decks with slight tuning for the meta game, and do well. Legacy Death and Taxes was not considered a very good deck by many until it started winning at the hands of dedicated pilots, and the decks composition has hardly changed for a year or more.

This doesn't happen in Modern because many dont have a vested interest in Modern, and every GP or PT, players will just flock to the best midrange deck at the time. This same phenomena occurs with Legacy, as shown in GP Denver where many Pro's played the similar decks (Jund,RUG,BUG and Stoneblade). Modern just needs people that will make the effort to change the 'rules' instead of just complain about how they can't play their tempo deck or control deck.

I think the various splashes may be worth a mention, but none of them have put up any results to prove that they are better in any way that mono-white Soul Sisters. Many of the splashes are for Martyr-Proc.

  • posted a message on [Single Card Discussion] Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas
Why is this card not seeing any play? He is good enough for Legacy (with Tezzeret decks putting up good results at SCG opens) but apparantly not for Modern. He has seen limited play in Affinity with some success, but he is powerful enough to build a deck around. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas, or has played a Tezzeret deck, because I think there is place for a Tezzeret based deck in Modern.

Some ideas I have thought about:

-Tezzeret Infect, with artifact infect creatures and supporting artifacts.

-U/B Tezzeret Control, with or without Trinket Mage package.

-Grixis Tezzeret Control, this would run similar to the legacy deck, with artifact ramp into a fast Tezzeret or Ral Zarek. Also gets Lightning bolt.

-Esper Tezzeret Control, white for Path to Exile and maybe Elspeth to ramp into, similar to Grixis.

    - Big Affinity, less aggro and more synergistic, with bigger threats and some non-artifact spells to support the more mid-range gameplan.
