Most of the cards are really powerful, and the upgrade they provide is both worth the pick and the risk of not drawing the card. Since you've never played with them, I could see how they're hard to measure. But I assure you, they're absolutely powerful enough to justify their slots if you elect to run them. Since you can only play 23 nonland playables from your pool, spending an extra pick to improve the quality of one of the ones that will make your final 40 is a great thing to be doing.
i think wtwlf said it best here. these are just way too good for a non-powered environment, & if playing UN-cards is distasteful to you, as has also alrdy been said, these oftentimes come off feeling like those b/c of their ridiculousness
i think this is a fine card, exactly what any U/x control deck(or even a storm deck, if you support that)wants, an early drop that can keep aggro off them, that has the potential to be a late game threat
i understand what you're saying wtwlf but i still dont like the comparison. i would argue that for the most part, most cubes were eschewing the use of morph cards in general b/c of their very nature to telegraph "hidden info" & that it was only the recent printing of the dragons of tarkir set & the re-introduction of the morph mechanic that brought them "back into the fold" so to speak. you are right that playing a wastes screams "colorless matters" just as much as morph-ing a face down card does. i guess the part of the discussion i don't like, is that i feel as a cube manager we're doing our players a disservice if we aren't providing them enough colorless options to play the "colorless matters" cards w/o them having to resort to playing wastes & thereby telegraphing "hidden info"
It's less revealing than Morph is, and that hasn't been much of a problem.
its a new "color", not a new mechanic. i don't think thats a completely apt comparison. not to mention that the way morphs work, you're pretty much giving away info if your grp knows what morph cards are in your cube when you play it face down. there's no way to "disguise" the morphs b/c there a only a few that are actually good. it wouldn't be that bad if there were enough decent morphs b/c it would then @ least keep them guessing but there aren't. however w/ a few tweaks, you can change a cube to support the new "color" to @ least "disguise" the fact that someone's game plan may include some of the new "colorless matters" cards.
It's not going to stop me from trying these new cards out, but I am certainly going to switch out some of my rainbow land and artifact sources for all the playable non basics.
oh no, it shouldn't. some of the new "colorless matters" cards, Bearer of Silence, Eldrazi Displacer & Eldrazi Obligator are awesome. i wasn't saying that. however i do like your line of thinking about about designing your cube to support the new cards w/o appearing to. i think thats probably the right choice for every cube manager who decides to include them
@ Ultimateer - you know that is actually a fair pt. if your play grp knows what "colorless matters" cards are in your cube & somebody plays a wastes, that would certainly give away info...
i'm surprised @ the amount of disdain OoN is getting here. it seems to be getting a bad rap when compared to the blue cantrips. i assume that most of the cube folks posting here also play other eternal formats or @ least have a passing familiarity w/ them, how often have you kept a 1 land hand w/ a ponder/brainstorm/preordain? i daresay that most of the time you're keeping that 1 land hand w/ a cantrip isnt b/c you're hand is so good that you think it can win w/ off that 1 land, i bet you're hoping to hit a land w/ that cantrip. or later in the game you're brainstorm-ing trying to hit that 2nd blue card to pitch to a force. in both scenarios you're digging for resources &/or answers, which is exactly what this card does, the same as those, so whats the problem? brainstorm/ponder/preordain are all cube staples & so is this, it just happens to be green...
@Legend: nice job man, cool mechanic & it doesnt seem too busted. in fact i think you could probably get rid of the draw back clause on the "wary cadet" b/c of the power level of creatures these days
Skullclamp, Batterskull, Grafted Wargear and Bonesplitter all are the non-sword equipment that cuts it. They're all also A LOT stronger Loxodon Warhammer.

i feel like its in the same category as these cards

what he said, arbor elf is light yrs better then avacyn's pilgrim, being able to get double colored mana that isnt green off a dual is sick
what he said & dont forget Umezawa's Jitte
definitely this
