Comet was the best Boros card when it was printed and then they went and printed a bunch of insane Boros cards in 2023 commander products. Forth is the best among all of those and unless I’m forgetting something not just the strongest Boros card but the strongest multicolored card straight up.

SL you sure about that? Minsc & Boo, Timeless Heroes?

I mean it’s definitely better than minsc so if that was the only counterexample that came to mind then I guess the claim is looking good :p

i realize that cube is very much a different environment than constructed, but if M&B is better than Oko in constructed, then its better than Comet in cube.

    At 630, I run:

    10 ABUR duals
    10 Fetches
    10 Shocks
    10 Manlands
    10 Pathways
    10 Painlands
    10 Fastlands
    10 Checklands
A mixed cycle (6 canopies, Irrigated Farmland/Fetid Pools Mount Doom, and Rockfall Vale)
    10 triomes
    The Thriving Heath cycle
    17 rainbow fixing lands
    15 monocolored utility lands
    9 colorless utility lands

I think I want to keep all of my current lands over additional manlands. Having lands that come into play tapped messes with curving out, so I prefer as many untapped options as possible. Azorius and Dimir are a little slower, so they can get away with the cycling duals.

@ Cythare - i think you could cut down on the # of lands & get your cube to 540. Make people prioritize having a good mana base as another decision point. just a thought
I have thought scour, it's nice because you can occasionally get a usefull card in the bin, but that can be a double edged sword.

I was mainly in the market for 1CMC instants, but I wasn't a big fan of opt when I ran it a while ago as it just felt a bit dull.
Grog, if you're running thought scour, are you also running consider? its not quite as double-edged as "scour"

I think I prefer Big Score to this. If this let you loot another card from your hand for free when cycled like Big Score, I'd love it. Unfortunately, the creature part of this card seems pretty much worthless, so it cannot carry the much worse version of Big Score that is the cycling mode.

8/8 trample haste is far from worthless. the death trigger is just gravy

Obviously this would be insane if it were printed. A vanilla 2/2 like Isamaru is still very playable, if unexciting, and Yoshimaru is not miles off being playable on its own (note it triggers off any Legendary permanent, so it grows from lands, artifacts and Planeswalkers as well).

GK i think it only triggers off legendary creatures & 1 drop creatures, unless the spoiler image is incorrect.

hell there's a # of cards you can play in cube that could kill you. mana crypt & dark confidant to name a few & nobody's even thinking about not playing those cards b/c of that draw back; & that argument doesnt fly here either

dont forget your disenchant effects too meltingsho

Indeed. Disenchants are good against all enchantment and artifact based removal, so against Disenchants, Ossification has the same risk as Journey to Nowhere. I think a Disenchant effect giving a 1-for-1 with a removal spell is less backbreaking than a basic land destruction effect that gives a 1-for-2 where they both blow up your land and the enchantment falls off.

true, it does suck to get 2 for 1'd, however, since Ossification has to attach to a basic land, you could look @ it as sort of a way to save your "cool" land from being destroyed b/c they want their card back...? i'm not arguing for the cards inclusion, just playing devils advocate

It's a sidegrade to Journey to Nowhere, with the upside that it can hit planeswalkers, but the downside of a little risk of a land destruction blowout. Not fantastic, but removing any creature or planeswalker for the low cost of 1W is worth considering.

In cube decks you'll usually control a basic land. Unlike previous riffs on Journey to Nowhere, Ossification has no restrictions on the size of creature or planeswalker you can exile, so if you don't have a basic right away this effect is still great in the mid- or late game when you finally draw one. That said, there are situations where it could hurt to have Ossification be inactive because you kept a hand with only nonbasics, for instance on the draw against aggro.

I was thinking that the land destruction risk was negligible because I don't run Strip Mine, but then I counted 7/540 cards in my cube that can remove a basic land: Armageddon, Flickerwisp, Cryptic Command, Acidic Slime, Primal Command, Woodfall Primus, and Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger.

I'm pretty glad this isn't a 3/5 or 4/5. But I'm one of the apparently few who don't like creature-creep.

i'm right there w/ you MJ, creatures these days are just ridiculous. back in the day, Juzam Djinn was arguably the best creature in mtg & now... its a joke (but he's still got badass art). he's just retired drinking mai-tai's on the beach somewhere

if you can, cut it back to 168 Jajuka. @ 168 card you can do 1, 4 man pod, w/ 3x 14 card packs per player & build 40 card decks or an 8 man pod of 3x 7 card packs per player & build 30 card decks. & if you wanted to play w/ just 2 ppl you just split in 1/2 & build a 40 card sealed decks or you could just grid draft it

@ Poitle - i think ur missing out on recruitment officer, just looking @ ur list, i think you cud easily swap out usher of the fallen to give it a test run

I personally think Usher of the Fallen is somewhat better than Recruitment Officer

why's that opterown? they are almost always going to just be a 1 mana 2/1 duder & thats it. sure w/ a turn 1 usher of the fallen, you cud swing T2 & pay 2 mana & make a 1/1 token if thats what you wanted to do w/ ur 2nd turn. beyond T2/T3, ur probably attacking into a board state where the either 1 of them will die, @ which pt ur not making tokens anymore w/ the usher. so best case scenario, you get to play it T1 & make 1 token on the the folowing turn & probably a 2nd token the turn it dies b/c ur turning all ur guys sideways. thats not terrible, i'm not saying that it is, but whats the odds of you opening up w/ ur 1 of usher in ur 40 card deck vs the # of times you going to draw it later & its only going to get 1 chance to swing & potentially make a token; as opposed to playing the recruiter later & maybe it drawing you out of a potentially losing situation? all i'm saying, is that it shud be tested & that seemed like a fairly reasonable swap in his list. i cud have suggested other cards, but i didnt want to get into a long drawn out back & forth about it. in ur list i think you shud try it out over the mardu woe-reaper; there aint enuff warriors to worry about that corner case of that 1 time eating that card in the yard & gaining that 1 life, won you a game; but thats just me.
