@ krichaiushii we've actually found that danger room/battle box plays very well as a multiplayer format & we're starting to like it better then EDH for those purposes. it really lends itself to some crazy game states! Smile

i looked @ your list & noticed that you run lands & other potential mana ramp cards, such as kiora's follower in your BB/DR & thats supposedly a no no based on how the variant's creator described the idea. not hacking on you, just saying. i also noticed in the blurb when looking @ your list that you were looking to cut 50 cards, if you removed the lands, that would be a big start. you should also remove any card that says, "permanent" on it b/c another defining theory behind the format is not getting mana screwed & things that mess w/ permanents, obviously could be used to screw over your opponent's mana. another thing thats supposed to be intrinsic to the format is the exclusion of mythics but even he broke his own rule, the last time i saw his list, but that could be another place you could look for cuts... i'm not saying that some mythics arent ok, but i would caution against using mythics such as Olivia Voldaren; i believe she's just too good in this format. those are just a few quick things i noticed when looking @ your list, but take those for what they are b/c i'm not fussing @ you over them, just merely making observations. i agree w/ you that its a great format & never go anywhere w/o my BB/DR Smile

it cant be restricted, there are way too many lands in vintage that you have to have an answer for: bazaar, workshop, academy, & library; to name a few.

I'd be curious what a Top 10 of red's 2-drop creatures for aggro would look like - maybe a Top 15 given how many of them have been printed recently.

i realize this is getting off topic & before everybody starts yelling @ me, i do know this is the cube forum, but i think you guys are missing out on arguably the 2nd best red creature ever, eidolon of the great revel. just look @ your cube lists & count the # of 3 cmc or less cards... black vise still sees alot of play in cube & "the revel" is just nuts

of course, jitte & batterskull are the defacto targets of choice, i actually meant equipment by & large arent being played in modern b/c SFM is banned. i only said sword x & y b/c thats what the orignial poster was asking & i was just keeping my comments in line w/ his question; i didnt want to hijack his thread

the short answer: stoneforge mystic is banned in the format

you can read all the posts above & while there is a modicum of truth in them, SFM being banned is the real reason the swords dont see play. legacy is arguably a faster format, it also has access to abrupt decay & even better instant speed removal in the form of StP & yet swords x & y still see play in that format.

@ willdice - you're right, & i completely agree that he isnt synergistic when the rest of the cube is all about dealing 20 pts of damage to your opponent but i've also won plenty of games w/ Jace's ultimate & that has nothing to do w/ dealing damage; alternate wincons arent a bad thing. i guess its just never really been an issue b/c the guy is so tough. if my opponent is having to go for the throat or hero's downfall my 3 drop, then i'm pretty ok w/ that. + his "wither" effect on creatures makes the 1's that can kill him in combat less effective going forward. i was just throwing him out there as an option b/c i felt like he's being slept on

@ Spike Rogue - no, i didnt mean for him to be a part of a dedicated infect win, but he is a 5 turn clock; the guy is just a beast in creature combat. anything that isnt @ least 4 power+ isnt going to kill him & he's resistant to alot of the removal spells in most cubes(stp, path, bolt, FTK, Shriekmaw)

i'm sure i'll get shouted down for this but 1 black 3 drop that never gets mentioned is phyrexian crusader, he's a relevant creature type & he's damn hard to kill. for the most part only the top end green, black or artifact guys can handle him in combat & if you can get him equipped to anything, that should be enough to get you the win more often then not

i'd probably go w/ the 1 that won BoM last yr then (pretty sure it was last yr)
i think it had 4 ingot chewers, along w/ 3 ichorids, 3 or 4 petrified fields & an ancient grudge main board

@ flutterguy - oh no, ppl arent happy when they get beatdown by a turn 1 or 2 cheatyface, but hey, pay attention! Smile

@ scourge - blast from the past is a fine card. if you like/run spells like firebolt &/or burst lightning, it fits right in

just my 2 cents, but in my 336 powered cube, both blast from the past & cheatyface have been fine cards. blast from the past has been a utilitarian burn spell, providing red some additional reach & card draw. cheatyface on the other hand has been a workhorse. its amazing how any deck gets better w/ a free 2/2 flyer; especially when he shows up early in the game!
