Feb 8, 2014leadfeather89 posted a message on Launch Giveaway! At the very moment, Briarhorn is my favorite card ever. No blocks? lemme flash this beast out. Oh, you're blocking and my creature will die? lemme flash out this briarhorn. Early game? lemme flash/evoke this badboy out.Posted in: Announcements

I don't know what you mean by "the right amount of hate." My cube doesn't have the restriction of modern-only or lower power or anything like that, but I don't have any problems with swarm-style decks, control decks etc. Swarm decks aren't as popular here, but they crop up every once in a while and there never has been any major problem with them. I feel it. I just like the idea of a 3/3 flier swinging into a Jetting Glasskite, and after no blocks, no pump. The threat of activation is real.
By the way I love your black sac theme section. Carrion Feeder, Bloodthrone Vampire, Nantuko Husk, Sling-Gang Lieutenant, and Virtuous Aven. I have very similar. I love that deck when it comes together. Any reason why the omission of Marsh Flitter and Fallen Angel? Just curious.
I've got a bit of time and I'm bored, so I'll thumb through your cube and see what thoughts come to mind, with an eye out for things against "go wide" strats. I'll likely make a comment about a card that isn't modern-legal, but I'll do my best to only mention modern-only cards.
WHITE
I like to think that Goldmeadow Harrier is an upgrade to Gideon's Lawkeeper for the Cloudgoat Ranger synergies, even though I've never seen it come to fruition.
Azorius Arrester takes an attacker away for one turn, and can trade another turn.
Guardian of the Guildpact can block grounded duders all day in the "go wide" strategy. Same with Seraph of Dawn.
Harm's Way can sometimes negate one attacker and kill another. Temporal Isolation can negate an attacker on a go-wide strat.
Ghostly Prison can completely shut down go wide strats, as can the less oppressive Baird, Steward of Argive.
BLUE
Riftwing Cloudskate, Man-o'-War, Stitched Mangler, Frost Lynx, and the less popular Angler Drake all deal with single creatures for a turn or two very well.
Serendib Efreetand Calcite Snapper (love the turtle) got nice booties to block forever.Kasmina, Enigmatic Mentor can also deal with mass creatures.
Unsummon and Psionic Blast are cards to consider.
BLACK
Bone Shredder, Disfigure, and Snuff Out all deal with individual creatures to help with mass creatures. I dont think black needs much help with this (potential) issue you have.
RED
First thing, Fire Imp and Flametongue Kavu are both so good for control and aggro. Find a copy and slide 'em in (unless their omission was on purpose because of reasons).
The less popular Cunning Sparkmage can ping out tokens all day long. Block one, ping another for swag.
I also don't think red needs much help.
GREEN
Wall of Blossoms blocks forever. As does Wall of Roots. The allstar Briarhorn is a great surprise blocker. Arborback Stomper's lifegain is nothing to scoff at. Delay the (maybe?) inevitable death by a turn, which could be the turn that saves you and leads you to win.
Fight cards like Epic Confrontation could see use in your cube if many creatures are a problem. I personally like Epic Confrontation because of it's 2cmc, despite it being sorcery. Clear Shot comes to mind as a card people like. I'm sure there are others.
MULTICOLOR
Lyev Skyknight and Spire Patrol both provide a body and "remove" an attacker off for a turn.
Haunter of NightVeil may make a ton of your opponents dudes 0/1 fliers.
Ribbons of Night, kill a dude, gain some life, draw a card. So good.
Obelisk Spider could potentially turn off go wide strats after 2 or 3 turns.
Gelectrode (love this guy) can do a similar thing as Cunning Sparkmage, but with cheap counterspells and burn spells, could easily take out 3/3 or 4/4. Or a bunch of 2/1's and 1/1's. Get him up and protect him with counterspells while he zaps things away. Juicy.
That's all I got. I just compared your cube to mine on cubetutor's feature.
Lightform'd the top card of my library, which happened to be Calciderm. Next turn, paid 2WW to morph. The result was a 5/5 flying, lifelink, shroud beast that doesn't have any counters on it. That is, there will never be a last counter to remove, and thus you'll never have to sac it.
