Well, I'm very happy to see the thread is still alive hahah. Since I got blocked this webpage from work's network, I'm unable to comment (I only read since I cheat using google translator). Hardened Scales indeed is the most important card of the new set, but there are many others which can help the archetype:
Stubborn Denial: Since your creatures will be pumped enough, it can be a really cheap counter when one of them reaches 4 or more power
Mer-Ek Nightblade: A good finisher against midrange. Your opponent will likely lose whether it blocks and loses all his/her creatures or not.
Arc Lightning: Removal, finisher and heroic enabler, or all at the same time! Dragon Grip: Can work as a combat trick when your hero is pumped enough. Howl of the Horde: Duplicating or triplicating a spell can be enough to win. Monastery Swiftspear: He definitely works along heroic creatures and is an awesome 1mana drop by itself.
Awaken the Bear: To finish off the job? Sure thing Become Immense: Very rewarding if you're playing a spell each turn, by turn 4 or 5, this can become as cheap as 2 or 1 mana. Dragonscale Boon: Works as Triton Tactics but for one single creature. Incremental Growth: Another finisher card, too bad is at sorcery speed. Savage Punch: On a well, pumped creature, this can be an outstanding removal Roar of Challenge: Another finisher card, more reliable than giving trample when the opponent has big dudes. Tuskguard Captain: Great one indeed, a heroic lord to finish off the game quickly. Elspeth tokens? Don't make me laugh
We must admit that, both white and red got the best toys to play with in this new one, while green now has more support than before. Not much suppor for heroic bestow, but it has many synergies for heroic weenie strategies. Abzan heroic may be the most interesting color combination out there, and WG heroic has simply become better.
Hey there, I made some adjustments to my deck, which now is swifter, faster, with an improved mana curve and more control than ever. It attempts to win as fast as possible, having many ways to protect the core (either attacking with Rafiq or another fearsible creature).
On early turns, it focus either on fixing the draws or accelerating the mana, in order to bring up Rafiq as fast as possible depending the opponent. Also, is a good time to drop down some boots or equipment so Rafiq can weild it and swing fast.
Against aggro builds, Dueling Grounds, Stoic Angel and Silent Arbiter make a narrow pass for the creatures. It also makes trample more effective.
Against control, it counts with early threats, as well as many counters too. Invisible Stalker and True-name Nemesis are the best creatures on those matches, they can easily wield an equipment and go for the glory by themselves.
Sylvan Library has proven to be extremely worthy on this deck, having a way to be very controlish without draining up your hand so quickly. Life doesn't matter at all, since there are ways to lifelink or to kill faster than the opponent.
The planeswalkers do a great job being finishers, due to Elspeth and Venser giving evasion when they land on the field. Jace can get rid of pesky blockers or fix the draws in case is necessary.
This deck has proven to be very powerful, tested against Thrun, the Last Troll, Gaddock Teeg, Animar, Soul of the Elements, Edric, Spymaster of Trest, Omnath, Locus of Mana, Asuza, Lost but Seeking, Geist of Saint Traft and mirror match. It still has problems with heavy-control decks such as Oloro, Ageless Ascetic since Solitary Confinement is hard to deal on if it comes early without a counter in hand, sometimes forcing to mulligan a good hand because it doesn't have any counters for it. Animar is another hard match too, since its general is inpervious to my best removal, while it can block Rafiq with ease. It is a matter of who is faster. Maze of Ith is this deck's bane. If we don't get quickly Reap and Sow, Bramblecrush, Wasteland or Dust Bowl, we won't be able to deal any damage to the opponent. Luckily we have two hexproofed creatures and 2 hexproof-giving equipments for the job.
I'm still wondering if this deck could be either faster or more reliable, but right now seems fine. Any feedback?
1.- vs Boros Heroic
I was amazed on this deck, extremely fast with tons of 1-mana creatures, encouraged with Phalanx Leader and many heroic enablers. My hand on both rounds was slow and with no lifelink, and I lost this one.
Result: 0-2
2.- vs Green Devotion
First round I lost, due to being overwhelmed by many creatures like Kalonian Tusker and Reverent Hunters with 5 or 6 +1/+1 counters.
Second and third round had a better time due to my flying and big creatures with lifelink, he was just on the defensive stand on both rounds, and I only had to exile his Polukranos, World Eater.
Result: 2-1
3.- vs Monoblue Devotion
First round was a very tough battle, I was attacking with my bestowed Hero of Iroas, while he had 2 Frostburn Weird, just to place down Thassa and Master of the Waves. I was about to win using Gift of Orzhova but then he used Cyclonic Rift, losing my chance to kill it and bein overwhelmed by the tokens.
Result: 2-1
6.- vs Esper Control
First match was an easy one, placing down an early Hero of Iroas bestowed with Eidolon of Countless Battles, being a 4-turns clock. Just when he dropped his Blood Baron of Vizkopa, I bestowed Herald of Torment and went for the win. His control was unable to handle it early and I won. Second and third match were total loses; he managed to kill my creatures efficiently (but not all) just to place down a Blood Baron of Vizcopa and Elspeth, Sun's Champion on the next turn. This happened in both late rounds, and since I have no way to deal with Blood Baron, I lost.
Result: 1-2
Well then, I can say this was no bad after all. The deck seems to have enough power to withstand the majority of decks out there, and Blood Baron is definitely his Achille's tendon, which luckily will be rotating on next standard, while most of my deck won't. Against aggro is a matter of getting lifelink first or remove the main aggro creature on his hand. Depending what we get on M15 on Khans of Tarkir, I'm sure the deck can increase his synergies and strategies, but right now seems it is good, maybe I'll remove Ratchet Bomb and play some kind of "sacrifices a creature" card or something, to kill without target, or maybe Extinguish All Hope, so I can have a chance against Blood Barons.
I've been tinkering with a slightly more aggressive than averrage WU Heroic build that seems to work reasonably well for me. Could I perhaps get some feedback here?
Is Supreme Verdict a good option for sideboard? Not in your type of deck. Being aggro, it won't put you in a more benefical position, Detention Sphere does the creature removal you need. In sideboard. Judge's Familiar would be an interesting addition in the sideboard, making you more efficient against control decks, while you have an early beater with evasion at the same time.
If aggro is an issue, lifelink works better for it, or Azorius Charm, which can both give all your creatures lifelink or remove an enchanted attacker to the deck, both functions are nice for the purpouse.
I think the future of this archetype is 3 color: Brave Naya. Meanwhile, I'm sticking to mono-white for another round. It's done well except against UW control and R aggro/burn.
I want to try Tethmos Highpriest to regain some footing after a wrath. Basically play all creatures early, don't hold back. The strategy is to go wide rather than tall. (Vs red you can go tall but you have to beat Mizzium Mortars.) Then post-apocalypse we play Tethmos and start using the instants and auras we've held in reserve to rebuild our board with Precinct Captain, Spirit of the Labyrinth, Hero of Iroas. If you can protect Tethmos, every removal spell fizzles and builds our board. We'll see if this works or is just slow.
I also want to try Rogues Passage as a means of pushing late damage through, saving Gods Willing more for removal or to push two guys through.
Tethmos is a good one that will see a lot of play after rotation, it is a very good card, opaqued with the current 3-mana drops like Fiendslayer Paladin. Bant Heroics is something really promising indeed. The Battlefield Thaumaturge + Launch the Fleet bundle is pretty amazing and awesome indeed. Solidarity of Heroes is another interesting card, which basically can work as an ultimate finisher. Either aggro or voltron, I'm sure there are many ways to play a bant heroic, and I remember 2 or 3 bant decks in this thread, although I don't remember the pages.
Has Dragon Mantle bee working well on your build? I guess you may prefer more creatures to not lose the balance. Another Hero of Iroas and 3 Nyxborn Rollicker could do the trick well, making it more aggressive and consistent at the same time
You may need a set of Seething Song to make this really quickly. In a single turn, you may be able to cast multiple copies of Mana Flare and so, be able to play your bulky creatures quickly. Also there is needed a way to win asap so, try to use the best dragons for this purpouse. I placed Banefire because it can be a perfect wincon, the opponent cannot counter it or prevent the damage, is perfect for the deck. And a copy of Dragonstorm is pretty cool too. You may place 2 or 4 dragons on a single turn.
Tarox Bladewing can be an awesome win condition. Hunted Dragon is also awesome, cheap and powerful. It is no problem if you're giving for free three tokens, since you're going to strike faster.
Also, Scourge of Valkas really hurts when you're playing multiple dragons, it is really awesome.
Also, is a good beginning to learn to use some of the common tags here, so your decklists are easily arranged, and is easier for everyone to check up your deck
Why do you need such diverse 5 drop threats? Id say pick Obzedat, Assemble, and Baron, and cut the rest. There's almost no reason to have a whip since your only combo is one Whip with one Obzedat. Keep in mind you can't even target Baron with whip.
Actually you CAN target the baron with the whip, since protection only works when it becomes a permanent (it means, in the battlefield), it is just not synergystic or anything, since you can't double lifelink Blood Baron of Vizkopa. I agree on having only 3 threats, maybe another copy of Obzedat, Ghost Council
You need some draw. I'm looking at these lists and no draw. Heroic will never be Tier 1 if your opp has all the answers, card advantage and your stuck with weenies.
Anyway, there have been spawning many successful heroic decks, mostly WU, and a peculiarly interesting UB. Now having many bestow creatures, is more a card advantage than anything, bestowing instead of playing the creature alone is usually the best way to follow a move, making your board more resilant to removals, while also having big creatures. Please don't misunderstand heroic decks, although they are filled up with weenies, it has an excellent midrange and end-game strategy, having a chance against control even if it is turn 10, something traditional aggro can only dream for.
Need something fun, original, and that nobody will see it coming?
Selesnya Heroics!! Believe me, playing bestow and heroics is so fun that is almost hillarious
Is like playing hexproof auras, but with less hexproof and more power on each enchantment you place. Also, most auras are also creatures! so you get a perfect balance between creatures and heroic enablers. A T4 Fabled Hero can protect itself from removal with Gods Willing, and deal ridiculous damage next turn with an instant bestowed Boon Satyr (16 if you protected it the other turn). In this archetype, removal spells will most likely be unneffective on your creatures due to your instants, and they will just get more angry!
That is a great analyze of your current build. It seems like a deck taht perfectly fits the amount of creatures with heroic enablers (many via-bestow), which is something I've been encouraging a lot on this thread. I hope you can bring some FNM results on this specific deck, which seems pretty interesting and original.
By the way, you got a typo on Harvestguard Alseids and also, I don't think this deck is running Nyxborn Eidolon since is black. Can you fix your decklist so others can suggest accurately or test it on their own local shops? Thanks
I'm testing out myself my current athreos heroic aggro build this week, the prize are some sets of fetchlands so, I hope to win
Archetype doesn't seem like a cool card out here. There are better cards for the spot, like Fabled Hero or Fiendslayer Paladin, even better Banisher Priest since you don't have any removal. You don't seem to need a T1 swamp (for the overall deck) so you may change 2 swamps for 2 plains and the Tormented Hero for 4 Soldier of the Pantheon, so you have 12 1-mana-drops to ensure the aggro.
Although the Wx Heroic thread may seem little dated, there is always people willing to help in that thread, I usually go myself and give suggestions whenever I'm able to, and I gave it a little update recently
The ordeals aren't giving real advantage over here, you may prefer other things instead of that. Eidolon of Countless Battles is an efefctive 5-8 Ethereal Armor, which can come up on the field if your creature gets destroyed, its bestow is really reasonable. Having 2-3 in your deck will also increase your creature count, preventing the typical *got enablers but no creatures* issue. Orzhov Charm is highly suggested, since you don't want those 2-for-1 trades against control, and it is never a dead draw, since you can kill other creatures, or revive your Tormented Hero in case you need it. Too many Ajani's Presence on main board, I'd switch em out to side, since Gods Willing and Orzhov Charm give enough resilance for game 1.
Pain Seer is better than Read the Bones in this archetype, since it allows your deck to be more aggressive on creatures, and agaisnt control, you're assured to trigger him twice or more times. Don't understimate him, is really awesome in heroic builds
Brimaz, King of Oreskos is another great card you shall consider, doesn't die against red easily, and becomes public enemy #1 against other decks, so they ignore your Hero of Iroas or another bestow target for a while
Hardened Scales indeed is the most important card of the new set, but there are many others which can help the archetype:
Ainok Bond-Kin: Mandatory played with Phalanx Leader, giving all your dudes first strike. Cheaper to play than Archetype of Courage.
Abzan Falconer: Mandatory played with Phalanx Leader too, your opponent will just look at your army jumping over their Sylvan Caryatid while you win the game.
Defiant Strike: One of the best heroic-enablers on the new set which works as a cantrip too.
Feat of Resistance: If you're not too excited with Gods Willing, maybe this one does
High Sentinels of Arashin: Can work as a finisher on a heroic aggro deck... definitely!
Seeker of the Way: It pumps up while you're triggering heroic on other creatures you have
Stubborn Denial: Since your creatures will be pumped enough, it can be a really cheap counter when one of them reaches 4 or more power
Sure thing
Become Immense: Very rewarding if you're playing a spell each turn, by turn 4 or 5, this can become as cheap as 2 or 1 mana.
Dragonscale Boon: Works as Triton Tactics but for one single creature.
Incremental Growth: Another finisher card, too bad is at sorcery speed.
Savage Punch: On a well, pumped creature, this can be an outstanding removal
Roar of Challenge: Another finisher card, more reliable than giving trample when the opponent has big dudes.
Tuskguard Captain: Great one indeed, a heroic lord to finish off the game quickly. Elspeth tokens? Don't make me laugh
Abzan Charm: Multi-heroic enabler and toolkit, great if your colors afford it.
Temur Charm: Same case as Abzan Charm
Trap Essence: Counter and heroic enabler at the same time.
Winterflame: Pseudo-Electrolyze that works as a removal and multi-enabler.
We must admit that, both white and red got the best toys to play with in this new one, while green now has more support than before. Not much suppor for heroic bestow, but it has many synergies for heroic weenie strategies. Abzan heroic may be the most interesting color combination out there, and WG heroic has simply become better.

Result: 0-2

Result: 2-1
4.- vs Monowhite Aggro (splashing black)
Impressive fast deck too. First round I couldn't handle the many Boros Elite and Mutavaults, while my Eidolon of Countless Battles was killed with Doom Blade. Archetype of Courage made impossible for my creatures to block efficiently and lost all of them. Second round I managed to place down a Fiendslayer Paladin enchanted with Ethereal Armor and later with an Eidolon of Countless Battles, being an effective 7/7 which made me win life each turn while he was just blocking and attacking with little. Won after bestowing Herald of Torment. Last round I got nothing to play on the first turns and neither he did. He played Pain Seer, I had nothing, he attacked and then played Banishing Light on him. I got discarded my Fiendslayer Paladin due to Lifebane Zombie. I just had 2 hopeful Eidolon, Godless Shrine, Ethereal Armor and Gods Willing on hand, I had no other option but place down Hopeful Eidolon. He just placed Daring Skyjek and Boros Elite and kept the aggro coming. I then draw another Ethereal Armor, played both on my eidolon and swung for 9. Then I placed Gift of Orzhova and kept attacking, now for 12 each turn, he lost quickly after this.
Result: 2-1
5.- vs Boros Devotion
Both matches were really easy. My t1 Favored Hoplite got immediately enchanted by 2 Ethereal Armor, swinging for 7 turn 2. He played Ash Zealot and attacked. Then I got Gift of Orzhova next turn and swing for 11 with lifelink, he condeded the round.
Next one, I got killed my early creatures with Lightning Strike, but Hero of Iroas
managed to survive due to a Gods Willing when he played Chained to the Rocks. I Bestowed Herald of Torment and hit for 7, he played Boros Reckoner and placed a Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx. Next turn I bestowed Hopeful Eidolon on him and swung for 9. He attacked with Boros Reckoner and played Stormbreath Dragon to defend. Then I played Gods Willing, giving protection from red and swinging for 8.
Result: 2-0
In the main board, almost everything seems fine; I'd just suggest to remove 1 or 2 Fabled Hero for another set of Eidolon of Countless Battles.
Overall I like this deck, it seems you will get well with it, just to have a little adjustments on your sideboard

You're welcome now then...
I'd change 1 Immortal Servitude for a Banishing Light or Hero's Downfall, so you have some answer against certain threats
Brimaz, King of Oreskos is another great card you shall consider, doesn't die against red easily, and becomes public enemy #1 against other decks, so they ignore your Hero of Iroas or another bestow target for a while
Also, Tethmos High Priest is worth a try, you have 23 legal targets right now for it. Or you may change Hero of Iroas for Favored Hoplite or Lagonna-Band Trailblazer and try to run Immortal Servitude. 4 mana to return almost all your dudes to the board
