Anime Sleeves with Sleeve protectors. Mainly Bushiroad Sleeves, but anything that has the correct Anime can go.
Yes, they're a nightmare to shuffle (and to store, if you're unprepared), but I like expressing the anime I watch. I hold by the concept that competitive decks should use plain sleeves and casual decks, with art.
Nobody in my entire area will have a problem with those sleeves because all LGSes I go to have at least a Vanguard/WeibSchwarz community there as well. And even if someone does, it's a casual deck, which means we can choose not to play with each other in that case.
I could never tell what the original Tarmogoyf was.
The new one looks weird, but at least's we can tell it's a fierce goyf there. And chances is that I feel it's weird because I'm used to Tarmogoyf being a brown blur.
I realized that while he can do backgrounds, he usually opts for a clean background. Usually that brings a focus to the subject, but strangely all I feel is the absence of the background... maybe it's just me.
YmtC cards usually don't make it to the constructed tournament scene. So I prefer them to be golden in EDH.
Revenge of Necromancy is like Geth's Grimoire and Liliana's Caress. You need a dedicated discard theme to trigger it - which means a build-around-deck.
Blood in the Watering Can is like Debtors' Knell. There are always creatures in the graveyard in EDH, you are almost always losing life. Knell is a highly playable card even if it has the "Kill on sight" label on it.
Nice. I always deferred buying a Tooth and Nail because I felt the art wasn't worth the money I would pay a foil for (I buy those for EDH). This has neat art and would be worth the money.
Finally, I finished up the Card Choices Section. That was the most exhausting part of the whole thread.
Unfortunately, I haven't got started with the Dragon's Maze reviews. I might just skip that and infuse it into the card choices section. That would probably be done in about two weeks' time. So the next proper update would be for M14. But don't let that stop you from listing down cards from Dragon's Maze you think would be a great fit for this deck.
Meanwhile, I opted for a "all spoiler tags" format for this thread, because I think its better for one to open and close the section they want to read than to scroll down a whole mass of text.
If you have any issues with the layout of the thread, feel free to list them here. That can include if you think it's too wordy and/or there's not enough pictures to catch your attention.
Consuming Contract* wins hands-down. Double Down just sounds too narrow, situational and EDH-unplayable at the same time. (I took into account EDH playability for YMTC, since it's likely the card we end up with wouldn't exactly be a broken-bonkers card for other formats, and two of the previous YMTC cards see some play in EDH at least.)
*And the way I read it, the card operates only once for each mode, so it expires by the third turn. So I think the original requirement to save yourself from losing was too restrictive - I think "Discard your hand" will be a ideal payment... if this card costs a mere B.
Pairing 2
Blood in the Watering Can wins. Mass Mummification sounds flavorful and exciting in concept, but in execution will be tedious. Blood in the Watering Can can be compared to Debtors' Knell that triggers every turn but requires a condition. I could see it costing around 6 mana.
Pairing 3
Soulfeaster's Rising wins. It's flavorful without being tedious like Mass Mummification. Revenge of Necromancy is a good card, I can see, but it feels inelegant with many things stacked onto it. (A feeling I had with Deathrite Shaman). Plus it requires a discard-orientated deck, which I think makes it narrower than the Shaman.
Pairing 4
Eldritch Rites wins. Demonic Bargain is probably going to cost like XB, and will be quite balanced and not difficult to keep track of despite using counters, but the Rites just has more possibilities despite its simplicity. For that, I give it to the Rites.
I'm going to play along and not judge all 8 together and decide which one I want, lest it doesn't even make it past round 1.
Okay, I've got my things sorted out in order, and can finally return to updating this thread proper, as well as gearing back to return to the EDH scene.
I'm intending to follow the premier format for this thread, since I find it neat and organized to read. This time, I'm going to give a more throughout look at the deck's strategy, and am going to focus exclusively on Teneb as the deck's commander, despite my earlier intention of generalizing the deck.
I don't expect a card choice section to come by so quickly, and I have not updated the deck with the cards from Dragon's Maze. I'm not going to set a precise date, but it would probably be around June before the card choices and Dragon's Maze gets done up for this thread. I have priorities that come before my EDH deck and this thread, and I will spare what time I can for this.
To be honest, I'm not particularly concerned about the commons in Modern Masters. I don't play Modern, but I think that even the most expensive common that's available in Modern should be pretty affordable by normal standards. I have a dozen Lightning Bolts from M10 and M11 left over, and I'm inclined to believe that the Modern Common card pool isn't suffering from any over-inflation due to scarcity. (Feel free to prove me wrong, like I said, I don't play Modern at all at the moment, so I didn't search out all the commons.)
I think the uncommon choices for the set are the true decision-makers on whether Modern Masters would be a highly-desirable set or a "Worldwake - Lottery" set.
One or Five Spellbombs aren't going to convince Modern Masters is going to fall. In fact, I think its a great choice because they're from Mirrodin, the first set in Modern (and technically speaking, should be the most scarce set in Modern as it is the oldest.)

Straightforward but powerful.

That said, I think the expression of Baleful Strix really brings out the best of his style.

I always felt that in Magic, abstract art belong best to enchantments than any other card type, and this one hit the correct points.
