Interesting prospect out of urza's saga is you can still tap it main phase before you lose it to get a second karstruct or tap it for mana, in that sense, considering nothing else, you got a 1 drop artifact of your choice and a pair of 3/3s out of a land drop. That's some really good card economy. Heck, you can grab a brainstone and use this thing as extra ways to stack miracles and a control win con.
...why are people freaking out over this? It's 1 card out of 99 that's generally only going to be really good if you draw it in your opening hand. It doesn't even ramp you beyond that initial burst like the rest of the fast mana in the format. Seriously for every game you open it and run out the gate face first into a board wipe or counterspell and have to wait WAY longer to do commandery things, you'll top deck it on turn thirty five where it doesn't do anything. Is it cause of cEDH? Cause the only two decks I could really see this kind of pushing even more are Urza and Godo, and lets be honest those two are kinda there own problem. This feels like a card where if I open it I'd be happy to play it, but not playing it also seems fine.
Honestly everyone seems so eager to bust out the pitchforks and torches for a one shot mana boost in a format with sol ring and mana crypt. Is it the rarity? It's a freaking lotus, and if want to play with the dang thing you ONLY EVER NEED TO BUY ONE.
With nissa leaving (There is a god and he is just), I like this a lot for standard as a supplemental wrath for control decks. This is the poster child for effects you don't really wanna see early, so having the option of playing this as a land drop early if you need it makes this card significantly better then a lot of people are making it out to be.
It was just reprinted in the core set too, so no chance of rotating anyway. I like this new art though!
It actually wasn't in core 21. In fact the last printing was core 20, so if we didn't get it here, it actually would have rotated out of standard for the first time in years.
I feel like this card gets better in a post uro world where people aren't hanging around 20+ life almost constantly. I do think a deck built around him in modern is possible, but he does have some pretty stiff competition.
If this card is real, I would legitimately not be surprised if this card sees a ban in standard down the line.
While black has Eliminate and Murderous Rider, other colors seem to have relatively use usable means to deal with this card at instant speed (keep in mind that brazen borrower cannot reset this card as its adventure half cannot target lands). Build a decent control deck with a bunch of wraths, counters, and this card and the meta can become a pretty miserable place.
I mean, to be fair, if this card exists and DOES become an issue, people in the market to answer it (IE slower decks) can just play field of ruin. Actually, now that I think about it, with the power of the castles and the fact that this is ZENDIKAR (actual zendikar, not the eldrazi hellscape) it might be competing with field of ruin for colorless land spots.
I think the numbers on this make it playable and good in a control deck but not busted. The modal aspect and the fact that this is pretty solid at all points on the curve is nice. Seriously top decking this late gives you the option of the two best cards in 5 or 6 and it can still counter something if you need to. That was always my biggest problem with syncopate and others like this. Early a 3 mana quench or an inspiration isn't exactly... inspiring, but you do still get to pick between the two which is nice. Having my counterspell have relavent text when a teferi is in play is also nice. Modal spells really are at there best in a control deck.
It's a good hit. On the draw, fragmentize and wear/tear are the only two cards that can tag leyline before they get a chance to use the extra mana, not to mention there is no recourse to them dropping multiple down on turn zero. Turn 2 Nissa were horrifying, especially when the card is it's own mana sink to make your whole team massive in short order.
I don't know that I like the felidar ban. Unlike leyline there are plenty of ways to attack this deck and it's biggest offense is being a combo deck that demands interaction. I think I woulda tagged baby teferi before going after the actual combo. Combos like copycat are probably healthy for the metagame, and taking this hard a stance against combo is kinda disheartening.
Question. Is food now a creature subtype? Second question, if so, can all changelings be used for food effects, like say the big scary noble 7/6 troll?
DRS Ramps by taking advantage of the most integral part of any competitive deck, on both sides of the table. This isn’t even in the same zip code as DRS. And, you should feel very crazy.
... and this card ramps by creating a token with a very RELEVANT type. A rainbow mana dork that brings an artifact to the table, makes more artifacts, and provides life gain against aggro strats sounds fantastic to me. Not to mention that even if you bolt the bird, the egg hangs around for fun with urza, engineer, opal, and whir. I honestly expect this card to be heavily played in standard, and break into modern.
More often then not, in modern or legacy this is a one mana 3/4 with upside and doesn't make you play 2 colors to play him. In what universe does this not see extensive play.
