I like the mechanic redesign, but why the complete aesthetic overhaul? Darn near everything else in MTG is humanoid in design. This seems entirely unnecessary.
If they had made her a 1/2 at 1GW and that ability she would have been a really decent card, usable in constructed and standard. I absolutely hate the fact that she's a 5/7 Elf shaman. It's so freakin' stupid. If they wanted a big, beefy creature why not make an elemental?
It's still fine in limited, if only because its a big body. My first DGR draft had her and an Assemble the Legion which worked out well enough. Keep in mind, I took her 10th pick. She's definitely worse than the 7-cost Selsnya Uncommon, which should never happen, but she's a fine 21-23rd card in draft.
>designing cards that are only usable in one format
>good for last pick in draft
I would rather draft a playset of Armored Wolf-Rider in a DGM draft than waste a spot on her.
I actually play Vigor in a couple commander decks. Triple green can get a bit rough. I also never said Emarra was the strongest card ever printed. She isn't the worst, though.
If the best that can be said about a legendary creature that costs 7 cmc is that it's not the worst card ever printed, it's probably one of the worst cards ever printed.
It's just an objectively lame card. Even casuals are thumbing their noses at it. It has no place in a good Selesnya deck in limited, constructed, standard or modern. The Selesnya champion has no place in any Selesnya decks. Even Vorel can fill a solid niche in limited and constructed.
Something similar to Chandra Ablaze? Not a huge fan of that art, but it is definitely more of an action shot than most walker arts.
That's actually my favorite art for any of the planeswalker cards. It's dynamic, shows actual expression and adds depth to the character all in one. I use the full-art pic as the cover for my binder with all of the planeswalker cards.
$12 doesn't sound ridiculous for a mythic that will make decks. It's a really powerful card, but really narrow in its applications (only goes in R/W aggressive decks, and then most of your creatures have to have red in them or else it's kind of a tempo killer). If it were $40 or something it'd be nuts but $8-$20 doesn't sound crazy for its potential.
It will make decks? I have a total aggro Boros block constructed deck and this card has no place in it. There are so many better cards to drop on turn 2 in a Boros deck and not enough red and/or white cards to make use of the phasing utility in block or standard.
Can you come up with a good Boros deck featuring this card, making worthwhile use of its phasing utility? I can't.
I really like this expansion is kind of a waste. Most of the champions are entirely 'meh.' There are almost no standard-changing cards in it aside from Ruric-Thar. No guild got any cards that really cement strategies for block constructed. I would argue that there are really only 10-15 cards worth getting in the whole expansion if you're interested in modern, standard or block constructed.
This expansion feels like it was designed almost entirely for casual and EDH.
So why are you complaining?
... so does magic.

Huh. I don't know why I thought she was in an intro pack. Did the early mock-up photo of the intro packs have her in one?
