This is a good card, but it’s not as amazing as everyone is saying it is. The mana is all 1 color. It’s not like you’re going to get many commanders out turn 1 or 2 with this card and start running the table. Any commander that’s 3 colors or more isn’t going to get much of a tempo boost from this unless it’s a really expensive commander.

Even more boring than the Zendikar Rising EDH decks.

What a stupid argument. MaRo clearly said the flavor of Kamigawa didn’t resonate with most players and the mechanics weren’t distinct or interesting enough to make up for that.

Neon Dynasty doesn’t sound legit to me. Dynasty makes me think of China, not Japan. I also don’t think they would go cyberpunk. Kaladesh is already their technologically advanced plane and it was popular. I doubt they would want to step on the creative space of another plane like that. If cyberpunk is something they’re willing to do it seems like a natural progression of Kaladesh’s steampunk vibe, not Kamigawa’s spiritual, nature-based vibe.

    Paper magic is dying

They really should have made Jumpstart a bigger priority. Allowing it to be a chase product that new and casual players can’t get their hands on was such a stupid, shortsighted move. Jumpstart could and should have been an excellent entry point, available at Target, Wal-Mart, etc. I can find Bundles at those places, but not a product designed to be played right out of the package.

I don’t really get the complaint about too much sealed product. I take issue with WotC releasing extremely in-demand cards in annoyingly limited ways, but releasing stuff like Commander Legends, Jumpstart, Masters, etc is fine. You don’t have to buy every sealed product. You can just buy singles and these types of products make buying in-demand cards cheaper. Complain about VIP Boosters and Ultimate Secret Lairs, not too many opportunities to get the cards you want at lower prices.

I think a part of it is the limitations of the way they do batching mechanics, your party isn't chosen/static and all the mechanics do is check if things fit basic criteria. What I mean is, the way party was designed doesn't allow for things like "When a creature joins your party" "When ~ dies, if it was a member of your party, " or "Members of your party have lifelink." They were limited to counting roles filled, but even that could have been explored in more dynamic ways than basic scaling with some bonuses for a full party.

Caring if your party has other members ("If your party has two or more creatures in it, ") or more interesting cross-class encouragement ("Target creature gets +1/+1 until end of turn. if it's a Warrior, it gains lifelink until end of turn." on a Cleric or "When ~ attacks, it gains flying until end of turn if you control a Wizard." on a Rogue) may have helped. As it stands, party is quite a binary mechanic, you either want full party to maximize everything or you don't want it at all. I respect that WotC was pushing for that (much the same way Domain was intended to be maximized and encouraged five color play and didn't bother with half steps), I just think it made for a less dynamic, less interesting mechanic.

I think the flavor was well-received, so hopefully they bring party back and expand on how it is explored.

I fully agree. Party being so completely binary means there is no early or even mid-game advantage to running a Party deck, but at the same time there’s no real late-game advantage either because having a full party doesn’t really ever pay off. It’s just a completely failed attempt and it’s baffling to me that it was allowed to proceed this way.

The fact that the sealed product is selling for less now that the set has been spoiled should tell everyone how good of a product this is.

I really don’t understand why they removed the Ally mechanic to make room for the Party mechanic when that would have obviously been more appropriate for the D&D set.

They bent over backward to turn Zendikar into a plane of D&D adventures and basically took out all of the stuff we liked about Zendikar except for Landfall. Zendikar was about unlocking a mystery, not going on fun adventures with your bro to find treasure.

Funny how no one considers fetchlands trash even in environments without shocklands, but somehow these are bad. Guess that's how power creep gets by.

You’re really bad at evaluating power level.

Yes, but MORE useful than a basic land.

And? What are you even talking about? You think non-basic lands should always be worse than basic lands? That makes no sense and suggests you don’t know anything about Magic.

...dual lands actually exist. And non-basic lands ALWAYS take the spot of basics. Having a choice between two types of mana that you’re locked into for the rest of the game is not a particularly powerful effect, just a useful one.

If you’re in Blue you should already have a ton of cards in hand, so this could easily and very likely will usually grab you more than 7 cards. Especially in EDH, where it will have the most relevance no matter what.

If it would be all lands, not just basic, it could be somewhat reasonable.

As it is, nobody wants to play that many basic lands to begin with ...

The most common ramp spells only target basic land types anyway, so I would argue the opposite is true: people looking to ramp want that many (or more) basic lands to begin with.

if you’re running multiple colors in EDH then you supplement your mana base with basics, you don’t supplement your basics with non-basics. Unless you’re talking about budget EDH, which is niche and hardly relevant. Fetching/searching for basics is useful to get more lands out quicker and that’s pretty much it.

Based on the rest of the spoilers so far I’m amazed this isn’t a mythic.

Thieving Skydiver is excellent. Great design, great value without being gamebreaking, and it works well with the design themes of the set.
