The End of an Era

I don't know about you but I think the era of the LGS is on the close. They cost money to run, to keep open, and require people to show up to buy product to keep the store going. The problem is that American consumers are quite fickle and lazy. A convenient alternative like Arena will do great damage to gaming stores simply because it removes a lot of hassle from the average gaming outing; physical copies of product, expenditure in time and gas and money, being packed into a battered area in a strip mall that reeks of dank weed and a lack of personal hygiene, not being pressured by the owner or staff to buy product. Most LGS's remind me of museums anyway; boxes and boxes of stuff all stacked up and put on shelves to gather dust and molder without anyone showing the slightest interest whatsoever.

You realize if every LGS closed, Magic would just die right? Arena and MTGO wouldn't keep it's corpse afloat.

"Have you ever been fatesealed to death? Its a horrible experience."

Those where the words over and over and over, from pro's and commentators and writers. Its seriously not worth the debate. The ban list is not based on just power, or just tournament run time, but on past fears, that some people refuse to critically think about.

"I can't tap out on turn 3 because of Splinter Twin."

I thought we were talking about unfounded fears, not your favorite decks actual gameplan.

Would you like me to list all the unfounded fears? Because I'm sure most people here don't. Are you purposely provoking a response and trolling?

My comment actually directly references a recent WOTC interview from The Professor, in which WOTC people repeat this BS line again: https://youtu.be/TjCDBiybnro?t=2184

So The Professor understand how Splinter Twin works. And what's your point exactly?

The way you undersell your favorite deck, I'm surprised Twin ever won any games. Having to win via Snapcaster and Bolts every game because Twin was so bad against so many decks, it's a wonder it won at all. But then mean old Wizards decided that you weren't allowed to have fun and banned the deck because they couldn't stand the idea of a deck that wins primarily through Snapcaster and Bolts mattering. And then you and Jimi Hendrix went on to slay the Jabberwocky and save Narnia.

I try, as a rule, to avoid combos in decks built to be played socially. Sometimes you can go infinite on accident, but it often requires 4 or more cards and around 12 mana to start it.

I'm on this build for casual games. (I don't play FNM or qualifiers etc). It runs alright unless against heavy RDW etc.

More often than not I have found the Circuits to be absolutely useless, have never needed ONCE to cast those.

Blood Sun? Comes into play a full turn earlier and, thanks to the new rulings, turns off ETBT. Effectively turns the Gates into Standard ABUR duals.

Also turns off Plaza of Harmony, which can hurt.

I was not saying that all the available walkers are strong just that out of available Walkers if you gave me choice to make a deck it would probably be one of these or some dumb thing with NuKarn

My most powerful deck is my Liliana, Heretical Healer deck. I would switch her out for Liliana of the Veil in a heartbeat.

I mean really. Really? They thought untapping ALL lands was a good idea. How? I swear the people you design these cards have never played their own game.

I'm not sure, but I'm loving it. I am hoping that even if it does eat a ban in Standard, I can keep playing it in Modern. Reclamation + Azcanta + Terferi? I dont even need a Nexus, just let me play this forever.

Can you explain this one to me? I understand Reclamation and Azcanta but where does Terferi fit in?

    As win condition.

It's really too bad that cards that remove enchantments don't exist in standard right now.

Oh WELL if there's FOUR cards that never see play then I guess making an insanely overpowered enchantment is FINE

Assassin's Trophy, Knight of Autumn, and Mortify see zero play?

It isn't like Golgari Aggro is 24% of the meta running Assassin's Trophy as a playset or anything...

Or Selesnya being 6% running 2 or 3 Knights.

    Right...

why is this card 6 dollars?
    If the set's brand-new, folks're gonna brew.

    imo just commander crowd

It'll drop to $1-2 in 3 weeks, then a $1 or under in 2 months.

I'll take that bet. It's mana acceleration in White in Commander, something they don't really get. It's also a fantastic anti-control card in standard.

So the only Magic that should be allowed is the kind you like?

I'd say that attitude damages the magic community as a whole.

I'd say that attitude damages the magic community as a whole.

My opinion is alligned with WotC visions of healthy gameplay and metagame in Magic tournaments. So my attitude doesn't damage the magic community unless you are saying that WotC herself damage the magic community with her decisions which seems to be at this point your problem with WotC than anything else.

Wizards stated vision for the format is a healthy mixture of Aggro, Control, and Combo. Just because you don't like one of those three does not make it unhealthy.

I just don't get the logic of comparing SFM, a Legacy staple 2 drop, with Ancestral Vision, Bitterblossom, Sword (all fringe playables at best in Legacy) or even worse comparing it with 4 mana cards.

Because Legacy has Umezawa's Jitte and Force of Will, two cards that make SFM much more playable?

Not a chance, storm is not even close to the top of the power stack, and people should be able to play how they like, even if its 'antisocial'.

Second Sunrise was banned exactly for the Iron-Works reason and never unbanned since then. Sensei Divine Top was another card banned because it take too much time in tournaments. It even exist the "Storm Scale" to remember us that WotC hate herself so much Storm (it was an enormous mistake to bring it in existence in the first place) that promised herself to never bring again new supporting storm cards in Standard again.

No, players shouldn't be able to play how they like. If WotC make mistakes and create cards that leads to horrible or broken gameplay should be banned in tournaments, because allowing antisocial cards not only kill the fun but even damage the magic community as a whole.

Hard to see a deck getting nuked from orbit. I feel for players who bought into it.

I understand the ban, and KCI was a powerful deck, but rarely do they just nuke a deck.

I think you guys are making gigantic leaps to make Iona not just be that bold thing.

Also referencing the Iona thread and how long it is weird considering how circular that thread is all the time (as someone who contributed to those circles)

I agree also that this forum is such a miniscule sliver of the audience because it is the only place I evet hear anyone talk about Iona.

I see Iona talked about all the time in my parts. The less hyper competitive players have even started taking her out of their decks because as stated above, she never makes any deck more fun, and generally generates bad feelings.

The primary reason she needs to be banned is because she attacks the primary build condition of the format. If you could splash cards outside your color to deal with her, she wouldn't be nearly as bad. But having 1+ players sit around twiddling their thumbs because Iona completely locked out their deck, but doesn't do enough to kill them, is aggravating on multiple levels.

You say that if she locks out someone, the other players ignore the locked out player. Most players I see simply kill that player so they can go do something else, or just let Iona chill on the board because that's one less opponent to deal with.
